The best Eminem albums are Infinite, Slim Shady LP and Marshall Matters LP... After that he had a few good songs but generally never got back on the lvl of those records imo.

Em is a good guy who is a huge hip hop head, I respect that a lot. But his race has definitely attracted a lot of willfully stupid fans who give him props that Em himself wouldn't accept under any circumstances. White people tend to special fellow about technical rappity rap shit, and Em has basically been relying solely on that for a decade plus. If you listen to Em stans they genuinely think nobody was making complex rhymes, multi syllable rhymes, etc etc until Em. And if you press many of them further they'll prob say something like "I can't listen to rap that rhymes nicca with bigga. Em makes intelligent rhymes."  :doge

Yes let us celebrate the intelligence of someone who's been rapping about raping his mom, killing people, doing drugs, and fart jokes for 17 years.  :doge

Infinite :piss2

Even Em isn't big on that shit and essentially admitted it's him sounding like Nas and AZ. And G Rap of course. Rappers the average Em stan has never heard of.  :doge

I dunno I always thought Infinite was allright. I mean sure it wasnt no Slim Shady LP but I thought it had some good songs on there. Been awhile since I listened to Eminem tho..

Infinite is subpar for Em and PD is right about the AZ comparisons.
Eminem really turned the corner with the Slim Shady EP, major parts of which would be repurposed/reworked for the Slim Shady LP.
Which btw, starts a top tier 3 album run.

MMLP still GOAT come at me (pause)

PD is also right about the casual rap fan stanning. However just because some people overrate him doesn't make him overrated overall.
I still think he's one of the greats, even if his songs today are mostly about wordplay and not consistently good "songs". Still a gem here and there though.

Also obligatory chance for me to reiterate that Deja Vu is an oft-slept-on gem from Relapse.

Another random thought: in an age where so many rappers are shit on stage or fleetingly (fleetingly) use autotune, it's refreshing that Eminem still puts on good live performances.

Now where the hell is that Eminem & Redman album over Bass Brothers production

Infinite has some cool tracks like the title track but still, it's not an original body of work to me.

every time I hear someone big up that rhyme pattern

Interesting.  How would you all say SSLP -> Eminem Show compare to other 3 album runs?
A few examples
Ice Cube - AMW  -> Predator
Run DMC - Run DMC -> Raising Hell
A Tribe Called Quest - PITATPOR -> Midnight Marauders

Hell, Doom dropped 4 classics within 2 years.  I feel like Em's best would be behind nearly all of them.

Predator was the weak link in that chain (but still good lol), and the Run DMC triplet I straight up disagree.
ATCQ is definitely there, though keep in mind when I said top tier, I meant as "in the top tier" not the greatest 3 album run ever. (although now you got me thinking on who I would give that distinction to) (also I am heavily biased; however, that means I bias towards Eminem's run, but not against someone else's)

Would've been interesting to see Biggie's 3 album run

edit: man now im going through all my music lol 3 consecutive consistently high quality albums is not easy to do and it seems to bias towards the start of careers as well (makes sense)
not to start the cycle again but kanye would arguably have a good 3 album run were it not for Graduation (shout out to Peterboy)
spoiler (click to show/hide)
miss u breh  :tocry
[close]

PS. the real GOAT 3 album run is The Weeknd (jk thats 100% bias haha)

But if I really wanna jump genres, then Pink Floyd's Dark Side-->Wish You Were Here-->Animals (the true GOAT) (not to mention it continues to The Wall aka 4 album run)

edit2: should probably keep this discussion hip-hop centric but im gonna make a thread for all genres cause it has me thinking now haha

just feel the kanye stuff is sus timing with the hospitalization especially when cole is pretty 4-ply soft himself at times so it's odd to see him flex
j cole also bothers me because he never lived up to the hype

yeah yeah "platinum with no features" but try and tell me he has a classic album, or that he ever came close to let's say a GKMC for example

j cole is audio nyquil. Kanye's worst songs are infinitely more interesting than cole's entire catalog. As PD said, he's not saying anything new here - even his 'disses' are generic as fuck.

I mean signing to your former rivals company while he's in the middle of tanking it isn't a mark of victory. He's doing better than I am sure, but he's not anywhere near Jay's level of success. Still, His music have been considerably worse than Jays since then too, and the get down sucks

I was hoping his next album would come out this year, but it's looking unlikely as we go deeper into December.  His guest verses this year have mostly been on point.  March Madness, Figure it Out, and Nas Album Done :preach.  The guy can't lose when he has good production.

I actually started listing a bunch of WTT songs and had to go look up the tracklist again lol. There aren't a lot of standouts, but it's not as abysmal as MCHG with the exceptions of the Timbaland and Mr Hudson tracks. The first two and the JEezy feature are solid
