I think the "devs r lzy" comment became a no no is mostly because it was typically used in a rant type of way.
Not to say that GreatSage is wrong about his feelings on Hellblade in terms of the mental stuff (I have not played the game. I presume you did), but I looked at the games wikipedia and it seems like the devs really went all out in terms of figuring out how to properly present psychosis. Working with proffessors in the field. Collaborating with people who suffer from the types of mental ilnesses the game presents the main character with. Maybe the story is hamfisted as you said, but it doesn't appear like they half assed (LAZY GAME DEV RHETORIC!!!) that part of their research or implementation.
its not about the amount of research they did or the effort they spent on it, and I'm not a maths teacher giving some token points for showing their working. It plays like ass, and its super ham-fisted in what its trying to say. I don't really care if they phoned up a psychologist and asked what schizophrenia might be like to experience as a sufferer, when the end result is just instead of a UI prompt saying "YOU CAN'T OPEN THIS DOOR YET" or "ENEMY BEHIND YOU" its whispery overlapping voiceovers saying it instead, because mental illness.
Fuck, Michael Bay does a shit ton of research and collaboration with the US Army for 'authenticity' in his films, to the point they're a borderline military recruitment tool, but his films are still shit that stretch credibility.
