I'm probably reading too much into the scenario, but wasn't it T EXP that got mad at everyone else? Being civil at work is mandatory, and being friendly (not friends per se) is part of that.. Conversely if someone steps outside that social contract, if someone makes an issue personal, it is natural to take it personally -- but that's a reaction the defending person chooses

It's hard to do sometimes, but when someone makes a personal attack on me, rather than jumping in to defend myself I find it is more helpful to ask them why they're reacting that way. More times than not, they'll backpedal or apologize. Personal attacks in the workplace say more about the attacker than the target.
This is where people seem to get confused.

I think they have a tendency to see work as an extension of school. I'm just thinking out loud, so this is most likely 80% crap, but:

In school, everyone develops their little clique and young people practice making and maintaining social networks. In a school of hundreds or even thousands of people, and in a changing classroom (and later, dorms), it is not uncommon to deal with a rotating set of hundreds of people per day. It's natural to find a group of people with whom you get along, and nurture that.

In most work settings, you're dealing with a dozen people or less with regularity. The odds aren't nearly as good as any school scenario for finding someone you actually like. But people try to force it, nonetheless.

Are you still flying solo on the site Green?

Yes, which is difficult when I have real life shit to deal with, that can lead to NOTHING going up on the site for extended periods of time. Hopefully I'll find a second person because I have a project in mind that'll require someone else.

Good luck.

I don't know shit about websites but general coverage stuff is probably harder to do because of the larger sites like IGN that are a couple of dozen steps ahead of you.  You'd have to employ numerous people who know their shit to come up with a decent general interest website.

It seems like designing a website on the internets is about finding your niche.

Well, in the beginning I'm going to focus on building a readership and then in six or so months I'd like to slowly shift things to a more behind-the-scenes side of things. Totally working on crafting my own niche.

Why not make an appearance on the borecast first? Get your feet wet and all.

I don't want to cramp their style.

If me and Jaybo didn't cramp it, nobody will. I was ever so slightly smoking weed all day the day that I was on.

Also learned how to play most of Hallowed Be Thy Name by Iron Maiden. I can play all the riffs, but the insane solo is a bit beyond me at this point. Hopefully I can play that by the end of the year.

Hallowed is such fun to play but I can't seem to get a hang of most rhythm parts. Can you play them accurately compared to the album version?

more drunk posting, brutal honesty edition.

My wait for grades is killing me.  If I stay in, it'll be good on a "keeping to the status quo" level, but otoh, I'll still be in law school.  If I fail, I'm totally on my own in the city with no structure or school for the first time in a long time, which is not totally scary and is actually pretty exciting, but I'll have to downgrade my apartment and luxuries by a lot.  Not to mention dealing with moving and, the worst part, letting down a lot of people.  but the stress coming from both options is making me very loopy...as evidenced by the distinguished mentally-challenged trolling I've been doing here lately... :lol

One of her friends told her it's a good idea smh. She first told me about it shortly before Christmas, but I didn't really give much thought to it, and neither did she considering the ton of food she cooked/baked. But with the holidays over I guess she wants to try something new. I've been helping her with email and my cousin taught her how to use AIM, but she'd rather just call

you mean if you're going to CC right now, right?

It depends on what you're applying for I guess but 99% chance that previous employment history is all they care about, if you're lucky then you'll find one that won't mind giving you a week or two off for finals but that's a sort of a pipe dream if you're applying to retail or food service where there's a lot of kids.

Maybe just give a super-weighted GPA or some bullshit if you want.

Does going to a community college look bad to employers?

You're like 17, you arent even old enough to worry about employers.

You go to CC to work on credits for the basics, then transfer to a university to complete your program (Not even sure CCs offer Bachelors programs). Lots of people go to CC / Uni, why would you be any different? But continue carrying this stigma.

This is what I did.  Get killer grades at CC, which is not hard at all, and you can get into the college of your choice (well, almost any...I don't think Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc. would go for it) , possibly with scholarships.  A nice CC to good university transfer is not a bad mark on a resume.  If you get an interview, it's very easy to spin it as a strength.

So do all the many other people in college. College is a stigma people use to make it seem like they are achieving something (obviously this isnt the case for everyone). Enjoy being "Undeclared" for the next few years, only to find out you hate what you're learning and want to do something else.

Dude.  For the first couple years, you're taking GE and lower division classes that don't shoehorn you into any major in particular.  Like for example all the different science majors will have most of the same classes for the first 1.5 years.

If you know what kind of degree or career would play to your general strengths, then you don't need a lot of commitment before enrolling as long as you know higher education is going to help you.

Just please don't choose something like performance art or whatever.

Green Man, go to a community college and worry about figuring out what you want to do there.  Most people go to a university because it is the thing to do, not because they have something they want to study.  For a lot of college students, the university is just a way to put off "the real world" for another four years.  You can then waffle about and look into several majors but if your parents aren't bankrolling your time there or you don't have a full ride scholarship, you're just adding more student loans when you could have saved all of that shit by going to a CC for a couple of years.  I have some big ass student loans, about 15% of that total is a result of me not knowing what the hell I wanted to do.  Which is fine because at 18 or 19, you still won't know but you don't have to borrow $10,000 to help make your decision.

Another thing is not to expect that you'll pull some baller salary out of school.  I had some friends who thought they would get $60,000 a year jobs out of the gate with their Accounting degrees.  They still are in and out of jobs or settled for a job with a more realistic salary.  University students are typically dumb and delusional who think they're special snowflakes.

The rate that you finish school won't change if you do a couple years at CC first.  The biggest advantage though is smaller class sizes that also cost about 10 times less.

So, I went yesterday to look at a condo in Flushing. I'm looking to move out by the end of the year and to own a place. Was pretty disappointed with it - it was small (~675 sqft), and didn't make effective use of space. Not to mention, the only affordable unit was on the first floor, and the den had a giant window that was directly up next to the street. It was in a nice area (across from the park and a few minutes drive from the main shopping district), and had all new appliances, and the complex contained nice amenities (massage room, gym, game room), but I dunno.. looks like I'm gonna have to continue looking.

The main reason I'm looking in Queens is because the taxes are much cheaper compared to Nassau (like, $2-3000 compared to $7-8000). Any good advice for condo hunting? I'm actually not even too sure what I can afford and will be meeting with my financial advisor soon.

I guess I'm just in a rush to get it over with so I can go out and start experiencing the world. Ive missed so many opportunities during my High School and Middle School years that I want to get out there and experience college life but don't want to waste time wandering around aimlessly.

I like to have things like this planned ahead.

the thing about the world is that it will always be there to experience after whatever it is that you're doing

but community college is fine, at the least you can use it to get an associates then move on to the four year of your choice, assuming you do well in CC

Hallowed is such fun to play but I can't seem to get a hang of most rhythm parts. Can you play them accurately compared to the album version?

Not quite perfectly, but I'm getting better at it. Assuming that your fretting hand is fast enough to play the notes with accuracy at full-speed, the main thing to think about would be your picking. You don't always want to alternate between up and downstrokes on every note, and some riffs sound better with nothing but downstrokes. I like to experiment with different picking patterns to find one that allows me to express the riff in the best-sounding way.

All this is true, however I was talking about the rhythm parts played during the verses and the solos. The strumming patterns for those power chords are hard to figure out, and I haven't found a correct tab for it yet. This is also typically Iron Maiden for ya. They have very different and hard to master strumming patterns. Sometimes I think I have some rhythm down, only to discover I was missing a chord or two inbetween the distuingished parts.
