I don't follow Japanese pro wrestling closely, but this match between Kazuchika Okada and Tomohiro Ishii is fucking amazing. Probably the best match of the year from a technical standpoint.

Last nights NXT + CWC was a ton of fun.

I enjoyed the 6 women tag match for the most part. The new girls aren't terrible but obviously pretty green. Maria Rose is better than I expected.

Man, that episode of CWC was fantastic. Even with the terrible HoHo Lun. Akira/Gallagher was such a great mix of styles. They did such a great job with that. I really love Gallagher btw. It's weird because a lot of the focus is on Sabre Jr. but I REALLY like Gallagher more in that role. The spot where he tied Akira up with his arms and legs was really fun. The match did a really good job at showing Akira trying to bang his head against Gallagher's style. I don;t usually do this but I may actually watch it again.

Noam/HoHo wasn't really good and I'm glad HoHo is gone. He sucks. All his moves suck. He does nothing interesting and drags the whole thing down. Noam isn't amazing either but I'm really happy he's moving on over HoHo.

Then Nese/Kendrick, which was also really great. I love Kendrick's "kinda-sorta" heel style where he's mostly being really crafty. I loved that Nese was just overpowering Kendrick the entire match so Kendrick had to do a lot to subvert it. At no point did I think Kendrick wasn't competitive, even though he was clearly much smaller than Nese. I hope Nese gets on NXT cuz I think he's great. I'm kinda surprised Kendrick advanced, tbh but I'm not mad about it.

Samoa Joe needed the TNA knocked out of him. He's lost weight, trimmed up, remembered how to give a good promo, and be a good monster heel. His time in NXT has done wonders for him.

Takeover was a pretty good show. Women's championship match was a let down though, Bayley was sleepwalking her way through it. Also the crowd are all awful.

Six hours was bit too long but there wasn't a single bad match on the card. AJ/Cena and both women's matches were definitely the highlights. The title matches were both felt a little lacking but they were still good. I feel like Dean and AJ have to get a program now, and it is gonna be awesome. Brock and Orton, goddamn. That gash on Randy's head looks rough but something tells me he was in to it. Dude is always taking big hits. Also, not sure why the hate on the new belt, I think it looks cool and Finn carries it well

I already dislike how Finn is booked on Raw. On NXT his makeup was a cool thing and his headdress was some cheap shit they threw on because NXT in of itself is fairly lowbudget (part of it's charm).

Now that he's on Raw they've TRADEMARKED the Demon King gimmick, branded him as such, and are pushing it down our throats. It's awful. But worse, they're keeping the stupid headdress!

I absolutely see the crowd turning on Finn within the year.

What we did see on TV was a shitty way to go out, lol. This still makes no sense to me since it was reported that both of them signed new contracts recently.

Other heels could do that but instead they play to the crowd for cheers. KO is the best example of this. Dude is good as a heel but he works the ring and mic for cheers from the crowd. Stuff like him shitting on Cole or having clever but mean lines is okay but it's not real heel work. What Miz has done for quite a while now (since the Mizdow stuff) is genuine heel work and he's just so goddamn good at making people hate him.

Bryan needs to start taking the lead here and booking Miz against big dudes on Smackdown to try and scare him, since he's a "coward". Kane, Baron Corbin, Erick Rowan. Have Miz either straight win or cheat with Maryse to beat them. Then Miz can declare that he's beaten the biggest and baddest dudes on Smackdown so who's the coward now or some such thing.

RE: CWC last night

Mostly ho-hum episode honestly. The Swan/Darado match was super dull. Beyond the standing 450, I don't think there's anything really interesting about Swan. I feel equally apathetic about Zack Sabre Jr. I get that his style is super technical but it looks so boring. It bugs me that Jack Gallagher is out of the tourney and ZSJ is still in, the former does a technical style and it looks cool and interesting.

I mostly want to talk about the Gargano match. The fact that they are referencing a worked leg angle that wouldn't take place until weeks later at Takeover is messing with my wrestling brain. I never would have expected that level of continuity and forethought. Like, where did the idea come from exactly? Did they come up with the Takeover match first and go into the CWC match knowing that it would air after Takeover and had to reference the worked leg? That would mean the Takeover match was in place weeks ahead of time! Or did they decide to give Gargano the worked leg for the CWC match so that it would give him an out to lose and then put it in the Takeover match so it lined up?

It's just so weird to me. Because it's such a small thing they could have ignored and everything would have proceeded exactly the same.

This isn't even mentioning the fact that I'm surprised TJ Perkins beat Gargano. I was sure that the NXT guy would go pretty far into the tourney, and I was a little worried they'd have him win the whole thing. Good match though.

Here's the thing, tho- I think KO as a SORT OF chickenshit heel champ works. You have to make him believable, build him up as a legit competitor, but then occasionally (not all the time against everyone, this is key) he has to cheat to win, and he will because having the belt is validation for his character.

Of course, they'll fuck it up, but I think that would work.
