because from what I understand, it's been possible to pay or game your way into them for a long time now, which is evidenced by all the random nobodies who have them and cherish them

there must be forums or discords where people swap tips or give each other "ins" right?

was it as simple as paying for a bot farm and getting vouched for in some incestuous network like breadtube?

You used to be able to get verified simply by sending in proof you were the person, this is how MovieBob got verified a long time ago for example. But then too many people were trying to get verified and Twitter couldn't handle the requests so they changed to the system we had where you had to be "notable" or they'd reject you. It was a pretty open secret that others could pull strings for you and in some cases even pay for this and other services. There's some evidence that you could pay thousands to get unbanned.

There was not big secret. That is the same reason why sometimes the moderation were in ban sprees for x reason. Sometimes Twitter mod team were extremely proSJW but other times were proFreeSpeech (as understood by assholes that take advantage of it).

That’s why I’m not exactly sad that Musk fired half of the work force, but I doubt he cares beyond “need money fast” (also given rumors of rehiring assholes that actually knew what they were doing).

I didn't say it was some master plan - I said it was a good idea in a previous post.  Maybe it's a bad idea from a business perspective or maybe it's a good idea, but from a Propagandhim looking at the world perspective, it's good because it forces people to confront their actions.  It's also super fucking funny.    It's funny that they all have to pay to continue their addiction to this website, and I'm watching them shitpost and screech about it in realtime, on the platform they're railing against!  It's funny that they dedicated so much of their time and energy to incorporating this website into their life, and entrusting it with some special value to democracy and freedom, when a fuckin rich guy they hate just bought it up.       Why can't you just laugh at funny shit?  Why are you taking this so seriously.  Who cares about what anyone thinks about Elon Musk.
