This makes some sense, why give companies the ability to just pay $8 a month when you can strike specific deals with them? I'm not sure this isn't the "best" way to do it for organizations because you could let charities and advocacy organizations in for free and then negotiate with businesses. (I would include the Republican and Democratic Parties in the latter. )

If Mastodon is so decentralized, how do they handle illegal content? Overall this ironically sounds more like a libertarian's dream, not exactly what the Twitter liberals would want to escape to.
