Probably gonna watch the mecha shows cause duckroll's bugging me.

Otherwise, that Giants show looked really nice animation-wise in the initial teaser.  Might check that out.

So I finally watched Arriety last night (been putting it off forever since it looked uninteresting; not a fan of small world movies like Bugs Life and such) and maybe it was because it was late at night and I'd just gotten back from dinner and drinks with a friend, but man, that was slow, uneventful movie for kids.  It's a fine film (as in, not a mess, good animation, direction is fine), don't get me wrong, but it reminded me of the newer Winnie the Pooh movie where it was so for kids that it was just kind of boring for adults.  I can't think of any Ghibli film that had less of a story.  It's like nothing happens for an hour and then the most action packed segment of the movie is:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
the housekeeper picking up the wife and putting her in a jar, and then the main guy/girl go save her 5 mins later and problem resolved
[close]

Maybe I'll watch it again when I'm not so tired, but was pretty disappointed since I'd heard good things about it.  Probably my least favorite Ghibli film even if it's less of a mess than some of the others.  I mean Earthsea has godawful animation and the story is a total mess but at least it's an interesting world and has stuff going on!  And Howl's has awful character development but goddamn the animation is insane.

Just makes me want to go back and watch Whispers of the Heart again and Spirited Away, My Neighbors the Yamadas.  I miss top of their game Ghibli  :'(

I agree with most of that, Arriety isn't a bad movie by any means, but it does feel like hardly anything actually happens in it. Definitely the kind of movie you watch when you just wanna kick back and relax. From Up On Poppy Hill has been getting pretty good reviews from the Western press, so I'm really interested in seeing that [when it finally comes out on DVD, because it's never going to be showing near enough for me to see it in theater].

Also, Hayao's new movie is coming out during the summer [in Japan], so there's that to look forward to.

I remember getting to the end of Arriety and going "that's it!, they just leave?". I mean I was expecting the kid to be sick and maybe die, but at least he forged a real friendship with the girl, but the movie just ends. Like it started that plot and then was like whatever.

Very pretty movie though.

Parasite Dolls is a nice because it's actually adult scifi in anime form, even if the actual content of the show isn't exactly the greatest thing ever. And make sure you watch AD Police next:

Finished Aquarion Evol... BLARGHHHG

Jesus Christ, why do all mecha shows suck these days.  Not only was it a weak show, but since the previous series that was actually good ended on a "SEE YOU IN 12,000 YEARS FOR THE TRUE END", it kind of downgrades that show too!  Fffffuuuuuu

What are the chances any of this season's mecha series will actually be good in the end?  I'm an optimistic man, so I'll get it 1/10.

Also I can't believe it took me this long to realize what EVOL stands for  :lol

I think I'll make an effort this season to watch stuff as it airs

Top of the list is Scientific Railgun. I enjoyed the first season (much more so than Magical Index). Also I need to catch up with the second season of Index which I assume aired at some point

Then Devil Survivor 2 (while playing the first one on my 3DS). Anyone know if the stories cross over?

And then anything else with mechas :bow2

Hair cutting anime :rofl

i watched 8 episodes of daily lives of highschool boys and it's pretty good... it somewhat reminds me of a more grounded in reality cromartie with all the jokes about machismo

i also watched 2 episodes of binbou-gami but it's not really a gag manga as much as it is about genki girls with random anime refenrece,it didn't really strike my fancy

I'm not a big Clamp fan, but I guess seeing the dude from XXHolic was cool, though I don't know the ramifications behind it.

But I mean I don't get the hate. People seem to hate it because either they dislike the twist and for some reason think it's a big F U. But I'm not sure how it is. They show creates the idea that things are off and not what they seem. It has tons of scenes that seem strange and incorrect ,but in the end all make sense. That's why I liked it. The show seems tightly plotted and a mystery that allows you to go back and say "oh well I see what that meant". Let alone the fact that it was geniuely intriguing to me and I wanted to figure what the heck was going on. I'm happy the twist was crazy, because I wanted a big pay off.

People complained about the violence, but I say boo whoo. This is anime and it was great to see one that was off the wall like this again. I'm sorry, I'm one of those peeps who stereotypicaly dislikes modern anime and well it was nice to see something like this again. Not only that, it helped to show set it's really creepy and not scary, but horror tone. The monsters behaved and looked pretty creepy. Horror is disgust and well this show achieved that.

As for the movie. It looked pretty, but I'm not sure I liked the pay off. I'm not sure I liked what the villain's real goal was. I guess it's very Clamp though. Though you think Saya would stop drinking coffee now.

Either way I don't get this show's terrible reputation. I watched everything in one sitting and I hardly do that these days.

The ramifications is that they can cross over just about any important Clamp char now, X, Card Captor, Blood, Holic, Tsubasa they are all available. Think of it like a big overarching Marvel/DC universe.

I get why people dislike it, Saya was shown to be too fragile. I always point out this is a different Saya.

It's different and a style choice.  Don't see anything wrong with that gif
