Damn. Honestly Filler I do love seeing your posts. It's just strange seeing you being open and vulnerable. Usually I can't really get a read on you and consider you a bit of a minion that just gets kicks out of people reacting to links/images you post rather than putting in a more human personal take of yours to the things you post. I was looking at my small pension stuff (that I never pay attention to) and I realized I never invested anything from my pension this year because covid. I also saw that my Nintendo stock I bought with it a year ago or so doubled  and made more than all my safe stuff stocks. Only had a few bucks in, but that's still fun.

Decide to invest equally across Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo with small amounts. Feels good to be backing videogame unity lol

Thought about buying some Nvidia with all the 300x series shenanigans and buying ARM, but they're pretty high and I don't know enough about how the graphics card markets work so would rather stick to videogame companies I know.

So this freaked me out-

Was just out walking the dog.  Got about halfway down the road and I see this dude dart out from the pitch black parking lot on the other side of the street.  He ran across the road and into the woods on the side I was walking on.  Pops out a minute later and goes into the entrance area of a church that's all locked up.   I walked a little further down and he never came out of there.  Turned around at that point and crossed the street.  Doggo went poop and I turned around to see he had come out of the entrance road and was just standing on the sidewalk, staring at me.  Fortunately he didn't move and there were enough cars going by that I didn't feel like I was in a horror movie or something. 

Also he was dressed like Jake from State Farm- khakis and a red polo.

I just got a Lenovo Chromebook Duet Friday.  Very impressed with it, especially with how fast and responsive everything is and the battery life.  Great build quality and screen, too.  And this thing is a budget model at $300.  Makes me wish I checked out Chromebooks earlier than this- with Android apps available (and now Linux, too) it has pretty much everything I need in a thin and light laptop/tablet (this model is like the Chromebook equivalent to the Surface Go, only the keyboard cover is included in the box).

Yeah if I had Apple Care I wouldn’t be looking at a replacement. I’m kind of shocked it died so quickly honestly. I see people rocking MacBooks from like 2011 that are beat up to shit and still work. Guess the Air models aren’t built like that.

I might just try and wait it out till the new MacBooks get announced next month. The new Surface lineup looks aces so I might check them out if they put them on display at Bestbuy (RIP M$ Stores.)

2012 and earlier non-Retina MBPs were solid. Could still replace common things like storage drives and memory easily like sane laptops. With an optical drive swap-out caddy could also fit another storage drive in there. They make decent web browsing systems with an SSD in them.

I couldn’t get a genius appointment till next week. But I’ve already sent some pics to Louis Rossmann group and they were quick to point out the the caps near the T2 chip were burnt out most likely meaning catastrophic failure. They also told me they can’t source parts for most of the A1932’s so it’s pretty futile. Another reason to wait for the ARM based system, since they seem to be more solid long term.

I know everything could potentially be a lemon and faulty hardware is out there, but I can't fathom buying another Mac after this happened.

I had already stopped using Macs by this point, but the biggest reason I ditched my iPhone and anything Apple entirely was their shitty customer service.  My iPhone had a bad battery and the Apple Store people wouldn't help me, saying I "needed to use it more to get a better diagnostic" and to buy an expensive case with a battery pack.  Got an Android the same day.

My iMac is 11 years old, and still running like a champ. I found the last OS X version that could run on it was not optimal, so I rolled back to one earlier. It’s still chugging along with no problems. My MacBook Air is nine years old, and has no problems. My MacBook Pro is five years old, and has recently had a problem with its fan, so I bought a $40 replacement, repasted my heatsink, and it’s running fantastic now.

I bought a refurbished Mac PowerBook a long time ago that was a lemon from start to finish. It caused me so many problems that I thought I would never buy another piece of Apple equipment. And Apple Japan’s customer service was absolutely shitty about it. But it turns out that was a rarity, and I really haven’t had any other problems. If you just need some thing for net usage, think about that chromebook. If you need some thing that runs dev tools and need reliable hardware on a solid os, MBP.

Can someone explain why this has accelerated in the past year? It began with some unexplained ones (eg: Borys), then nacho was involved with some mod conflict that came to a head in the Discord (apparently) and got wiped, then a few users requested acc. deletions subsequently (two of which were granted, although they say they'd wanted it for years), then more noise about promoting the Discord here and now Dufus requests it, too?

Is someone privately or off-site persuading more users to leave The Bore for a particular reason or what? I can't imagine for all posters it's been due to the random tidbits of IRL stuff people post here since that's been going on even up until recently.

Well I was having fun doing my entry level editing for my Youtube channel. I was using filmora 9 which I know is not a great program, but it was very easy to use. Then all of a sudden it stopped working and not even a clean install seemed to be able to fix it. So that sucks.

But I guess my school email still works and I have access to Adobe Premier Pro for free. Which I've read is the best program, but man does it seem more complicated. But I guess I'll try and figure it out.
