Every indie band ever.
But indie/alternative rock is a genre dude!Indie is just a word stupid ugly kids with tight jeans use to describe the shit music they like. 90% of that music is on major labels. I suppose I should give up and accept the new gay meaning for indie.
Oh, can we toss Foo Fighters on the pile?
Such and overrated POS band.

So what genre do you call bands like Radiohead and The Pigeon Detectives? They are alternative rock, and another word for that is 'indie'. I know you're trashing that label because it sounds so derogatory just like the word "emo" but you just gotta accept it bud :pimp
rhcp are the eagles of our generation

I know. It's just a dumb term that pisses me off. How the hell did the term "indie" make the transition from meaning independent artist to meaning shitty whiny bitch music? But I don't even like those "indie" bands! I just think it makes no sense. I'm talking about the type of music they make, not on which label or how popular they are.

powerslave makes this look easy

mother's milk was good, but it was released in the '80s, so it doesn't save the peppers from sucking for two straight decades.
Tool. Again.suck it, queer
sounds like malek likes rhcpI don't. Just last week a co-worker was flipping through my Zune and asked me why I didn't have any Red Hot Chili Peppers.spoiler (click to show/hide)and even if he doesn't he likes the beatles, so nobody cares anyway![close]
nickelbackWe agree on something. Wow
jesus fuck, they're like aural herpes

People have always trashed The Beatles on this forum. ???Yes. I think it's mostly to troll me; I had a Lennon avatar for over two years and am a big Beatles fan.

sometimes i wondered if malek's mom had hijacked his account to relive her girlhoodShe was never a big Beatles fan. My father was more of an Elvis guy. Though he probably doesn't remember who that is at this point.
Watch the one I edited in, I found the better (worse?) version.
80's Warrant / Megadeth
90's Limp Bizket / Creed
00's Nickleback / Good Charlotte
too easy.

I really think you people are letting Fall Out Boy off too easily. Sure Nickelback is awful, but they're a kind of generic awful, sort of like Collective Soul or Everclear. Fall Out Boy and Death Cab for Cutie are special kinds of awful.
Is there a reason we would trust an anime lover on this?
Whoever did that "Stacy's Mom" song, I guess... That song Card Cheat posted was the first Fall Out Boy I heard and :-X :-\ :-X :-\ :-X
80's Megadeth
Rock in general has just been really whiney this decade. I'm talking mostly about the shit on the radio, but even a lot of indie shit is all cries too - Bright Eyes, anyone?
80's Megadeth
Fuck you with a rake.
Woah, woah. Hate on Megadeth all you want but don't pretend like Metallica is any better.
you guys are terrible at this game. it's Dave Matthews Band.Dave's kind of been replaced by Jack Johnson at this point.
REM's last good album was Automatic for the People.

Smash Mouth, DMB, RHCP...weren't all of these bands more relevant in the 90s anyway?
Who, at any point in the past two thousand and eight years, cared about Smash Mouth? Fucking nobody(CHILDREN ARE NOBODY).
At least Nickleback has some good songs
there has to be WAY worse bands though - i mean , those are putrid, but there are surely stinkers out there...

Just about all rock these days suffers from varying degrees of it. I think the biggest reason why is that most people think that the amount of whining and moaning is a measure of depth. So whining is set full blast on a lot of rock music, whether it is "hard rock" like Disturbed, emo shit like My Chemical Romance, or indie crap. Which is just perfect for 14 year old boys and girls to relate to.

I can't believe I forgot this video I saw channel surfing:
Tokio Hotel, the gayest fucking band/music video I have ever seen in my life.
This might be a partial disqualification, since the album this is on was actually released in 1999...

...but this single reached #1 on the Billboard list in 2001, making it arguably the greatest disaster to happen that year
there wasn't even a single good artist/band/song in all of the 00's so farThere weren't any good songs released this entire decade?
music is fucking dead
name 3-4 really good catchy singles that can compare with those of the 70s, 80s and 90s and which I could listen to straight away
... if you can
In regards to pop songs, I actually agree.
In terms of hip hop, rock, electronic, and other genres I disagree.
But the quality of music IS much lower. I'm starting to shift my genre listening from hip hop/rnb to electronic. The music is much better quality and consistent. I haven't fully enjoyed a *recent* hip hop album in years. Fuck it I'm done with that genre.
Sublime, ugh
can I change my vote
I don't think Sublime released anything in the last dozen years. :)
Or you can just say that all white boy reggae is pure garbage. They were more ska-punk than reggae.
there wasn't even a single good artist/band/song in all of the 00's so far

Crystal Castles
Does your brother still beat you?
You also said Smash Mouth wasn't that bad, so peoeple in glass houses and all that...
I actually think pop music is better than it's ever been. It's way more fun and creative now than it was during the dreary R&B of the 90s
You lost any credibility when you said Muse was good. STFU.
Is Starlight the only song you've heard from them?
How the fuck does the band who does this suck?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8e3Amp4SgOY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8e3Amp4SgOY)
Just look at the guitar solo.Smash Mouth, No Doubt, Blink 182, Sublime
One of these things does not belong.
How can you like Fall Out Boy and Panic At The Disco, but not My Chemical Romance? They all sound like the same garbage shit.
Panic at the Disco is at the bottom of the pile. They got a record deal by asking Fall Out Boy through Livejournal. It couldn't get any more pathetic than that.

It's just like Radiohead. Without the whiny emo singer they'd be great.
Too bad.
Smash Mouth wasn't even that bad until they got overplayed.
Also boo at people saying Blink-182. They're good. Dude Ranch is still amazing.
so solid crew

Well, they were responsible for the whole genre of grime
Well, they were responsible for the whole genre of grime, which had some good stuff come out from it... but yeah the production on a lot of their songs left a lot to be desired. I thought it was funny when there were something like 20 guys and one girl in the group at one point.
Well, they were responsible for the whole genre of grime
Aren't you mistaking them for Roll Deep Crew now? :)
and they kept getting arrested
it was hilarious
i think the rise of the so solid crew was really the beginning of the end of my interest in UKG as a genre.
Asher D recorded the lyrics to Oakenfold's "Ready Steady Go" from his jail cell :lol
the ONLY song i ever liked by Pennywise is their cover of Stand By Me.
You know, I heard that song on the weekend, and realized no one did a good cover of it.
I'm not sure I want to hear the Pennywise version though.
there's a bit of a revival in garage classics. i'll see if i can't find some stuff for you. i have stuff at home i can upload if you like.
98-01 is really the peak of the sound for me.
Whiny voices singing about how hard their lifes are = emo. That's what radiohead and muse do.
Also how has no one mentioned Kid Rock yet.
Whiny voices singing about how hard their lifes are = emo. That's what radiohead and muse do.Very few of Thom Yorke's lyrics after the Bends have been personal to that extent. They might be dark and his voice and might sound whiny to you (though it just sounds nasal to me, and that's not his only singing style), but I can't think of many songs coming out in the 2000's (which is the subject of this thread) from them that would be about how hard his life is on a personal level.
Yellowcard. An emo pop punk band where one kid plays a fucking electric violin? Automatic vote for awfulness. My friend drunkenly told the Yellowcard singer his band sucked while he was standing outside his tour bus. He didn't seem impressed.
But I think by the time this decade is over, the new scurge of the nation will be The Jonas Brothers. They're Hanna Montana with penises.
