Yeah I agree, always loved him as a player (and thought Mailman should have caught more shit than he did for opening up his face) but everything he's done post-career has been a flop.

Always will remind others that he bankrupted the CBA, what a dick.

Mav with the best simple rating: Nowitzki: +8.5

The three Mavs with the worst ratings? That's right, his backups!
Odom: -7.1
Cardinal: -11.9
Yi: -14.1

Mav with the highest PER--that's right Dirk Nowitzki. Three worst? That's right, his backups.
Lamar Odom: 9.3
Yi Jianlian: 8.8
Brian Cardinal: 3.1

Why is the team just slightly above .500?
Dirk
on court: +5.4
off court: -5.3

Quote
Owners get a new building, arena giant AEG makes some money with a new building, the city keeps its team, Mayor Kevin Johnson gets a win, the fans don't lose their souls, the league saves some face, everyone walks away happy.

Well, turns out the Maloofs aren't as happy as they indicated. And they want to go back to the drawing board. They want to renegotiate the deal. Because, you know, the city pitching in $255 million to their $73 millon isn't really enough, given the kind of controls the Kings have to give up for an arena they're not paying for the majority of. That makes sense.

Thing is, the city's done. It asked its city council to vote for the measure they negotiated, and got it approved. They're done. David Stern? He's done. They helped out with some auxilliary funding and getting the deal worked. There's nowhere else for this to go. So the Maloofs are doing the responsible, reasonable thing.

and a 11 page from the Maloofs expressing doubts and concerns suddenly appears: http://www.scribd.com/doc/88339725/032012-Maloof-Letter

And now the Maloofs are going to the BOG and say "Would you take this deal?" and present the deal... they took.

After a great early run in the season, they have demonstrated the exact same flaws they always have. They give up too many 3's. Their offense is inconsistent at best outside of the fast break. They get outrebounded.

They will always look amazing against the crappy teams and kinda average against the best teams who slow it down and turn it into a half court game. They are not my pick to win the title this year. They aren't even my top 2. They would be number 3 for me.

Really though, who doesn't lie about their high school sports career?  I can't even remember enough to tell if I'm lying or not.  As far as I know, I threw upwards of 80mph in Little League, couldn't have weighed an ounce over a hunnert pounds.

Even people that are still in high school lie about being able to dunk, though. If you jump up and hit the rim with the ball and it rolls in, that's like a reverse tomahawk windwill two handed slamma jamma.

That's JR in a nutshell. When he's on you think to yourself what an under-rated player and then when he's off you wonder how he's even in the league.

Miami at Chicago on TNT tonight although Rose probably won't play again.

And my new pet peeve about the Heat is how fucking awful Shane Battier has played this season. Nice dude. Very well respected but he's this years Mike Bibby. His defense isn't what it use to be and he's shooting 38% and missing a high number of wide open three's.

And Bosh is putting up his worst rebounding numbers since his rookie year. This is a guy who average over 10 rebounds three times earlier in his career. He's certainly part of the reason why the Heat get worked on the boards all the time.

I don't care whether the heat win a title or not. It's time to trade that dude in the off-season. But they won't.

Grantland is such a POS.  I didn't even bother reading the article after the first sentence.

OK I'm curious.

Quote
Their peak arrives shortly thereafter, usually around age 24 or 25, and is followed by a steady plateau until age 27. . . And yet, the aging Kobe — he will turn 34 this summer1 — seems to have resisted this dismal downward arc.

Career high PER for Kobe by age:
27 years old: 28 PER
24 years old: 26.2 PER

Ignoring his first four seasons in the the NBA, I see this season's 22.2 PER is his second worst ( worst was at the age of 31).

So Kobe peaked, according to PER, around the same age as the average player. Despite what the article says, Kobe is declining-- he is simply masking this decline by playing more minutes and shooting more.

Dirk also peaked at age 27 (according to PER) and his PER this year is about the same as Kobe's (both are 33). The difference is that Dirk is playing the fewest minutes since his rookie season and taking about four fewer shots than he did at the age of 30. Kobe is taking the third most shots per game in his career and averaging about two more minutes than his career average.

addendum:
Another similarity--Kobe's TS% is at a career low and Dirk's is his second worst (though still respectable at .559)
