Malek, good job.  How long did that research take you?

I'm just curious to know how much time it should have taken that author to find out his premise is completely baseless.

As long as it takes to type "Kobe Bryant basketball reference" into a google search box.

I have no words for how ridiculous and embarrassing the Maloofs are for the NBA right now. Stern must be thanking his dark god that he's conditioned the press to ignore Sac if at all possible or this would be some Dodgers type shit.

Maloofs agree to terms, come out celebrating and giving fanfare. They probably bust out some seson ticket sales from it. George comes in, busts everything up at the first bill due. They hold this press conference, crapping on the Sacramento market and saying its a bad deal. They ask the BOG if they would agree to a deal that the Maloofs already did. They say they're worried that the arena won't get done in time while simultaneously planning to fight and renegotiate many parts of the deal. They compare Sacramento to Stockton (LOL). They say they aren't looking to relocate while derailing a deal that would make it impossible for them to relocate. They explain their post-term sheet celebration as Gavin being excited over something that's not his job. So yes, George Maloof just threw his bro under the bus on that one. Now, and this is the hilarious bit, George Maloof brings up redoing Arco Arena (Power Balance Pavilion) after the Maloofs spent money and PR explaining why that wasn't a feasible option and thus why they need a new arena.

And what is the NBA going to do? What can they do? Tell the Maloofs that they won't approve any move attempt? That just leaves the Maloofs to continually tank and wait out an opportunity. The Kings become the Oakland A's.

Yeah at this point it couldn't be any clearer that they  have no desire to remain in Sacramento.

Now all that remains to be seen is if Stern has any desire to save another good basketball market or if he just wants to poison another area ala Charlotte and Seattle.

Yep.  And guess who is head of the relocation committee?  The dude who moved Seattle to OKC.  Conflict of interest much?

Stern is a fuckhead who built and now is helping destroy the NBA one market at a time.

The only reason Gordon shouldn't get paid is because of his injury history. Otherwise, I really like him as a player and I'm not sure who out there at his position will compete with him in a few years.

The sacbee has a list of the Maloofs issues and requests for the deal and reading it over, you pretty much understand why KJ and Stern think the deal is dead.

Quote
• Kings have not agreed to putting up collateral for a new bond sale to extend the team's existing city loan.

To help the Maloofs, their current debt to the city will be getting refinanced. The current deal lists Arco as collateral. They don't want to have anything as collateral on this bond deal. That's asking quite a bit to start off with,

Quote
• Kings want approval rights over arena designs and change orders.

• Kings want city to pay all pre-development costs.

• Kings do not want to be responsible for additional costs for change orders on arena.

• Kings want to be allowed to continue to use Power Balance Pavilion in limited ways that would not compete with new arena.

• Kings want more limited wording on whether the team can relocate before 30 years.

• Kings want to approve the city's arena management agreement with AEG.

• Kings want priority in scheduling practices at the arena, and want to not be charged for using the arena for practices and other Kings events.

• Kings do not agree to a 30-year lease. They want that issue negotiated further.

• Kings do not want to be responsible for game-day arena expenses.

• Kings want a say on arena naming rights and signage.

• Kings want further negotiations on use of certain suites, clubs and restaurants.

• Kings want to negotiate for parking alternatives if a premium parking garage is not completed nearby in time for arena opening.

• Kings want to delete the term sheet section that subjects the arena to all city taxes.

• Kings want agreement to include suitable office space for team at the arena.

There's a couple amazing things here. First, their argument for not paying pre-development costs is because tenants don't normally do that. So why would a tenant get to negotiate naming rights, refuse the city taxes, have veto rights and such that tenants don't have? This was pointed out as flawed logic as soon as George Maloof said they weren't paying the Pre-development costs, but they make no effort to hide it.

The city taxes were to help repay the loan. Again, their presentation was like it came from an organization trying to stop the arena because it would hurt and bankrupt the city, while at the same time asking to remove a way for the city to finance the arena.

Then there's wanting to renegotiate the lease, which gets to the biggest deal killer:

Quote
• Kings want to delete provision that says any new owner of team must assume obligations in term sheet.

Read more here: http://www.sacbee.com/2012/04/13/4411932/kings-arena-deal-concerns-range.html#storylink=cpy

This is never happening. Asking for this basically announces that you'll sell the team at the first increase in market value and you want to be able to sell it to someone looking to move. The city isn't going to build this arena and then give the team an out to leave town in a few years when the Maloofs sell to try to save themselves from bankruptcy. The city will never agree to that. They wouldn't be able to get local businesses on board.

And it will be difficult for the city to redo this and get everyone on board again now that the Maloofs have killed any sense of faith in them.

Knicks settle for too many 3s at the end of the game when they're down. I feel like I've been saying this forever. While they're missing their 3s, their opponent just goes for easy 2s and slowly extends their lead. Shit is frustrating.

I may be selectively remembering games, but I get the feeling Dirk had quite a few shooting slumps lately (albeit not shooting as much as yesterday).

Not just playoff teams.  Hornets sat Gordon and Kaman tonight.  Ridiculous.

Isn't bad enough that the NBA gave us a shitty schedule (no Lakers home game, only 1 Heat game etc) but now we don't even get to see stars because we're not competitive on any level.

Where is my incentive to renew my tickets next year?

I don't think those numbers are particularly new or anything but what's instructive there is that none of those guys are shooting anywhere near their normal FG% in those situations. So really, nobody is 'clutch' in the sense of 'rising to the occasion'. It does tell you who can still get a decent shot against a dug-in defense but it should hopefully put to rest some of the nonsense about godlike beings ascending to a higher plane of basketball reality through sheer willpower, homicidal competitiveness and balls the size of grapefruit

Another implication of the low shooting percentages in clutch time is that defense is more significant than offense in those situations. So, while obviously it wouldn't ever tell the whole story of team defense, it would be interesting to see a list of the toughest players to score on in those situations. I'm betting Jordan would do very very well there.

I don't think either changes in significance. The lower shooting percentage is probably just the result of fatigue, predictability (the ball is going to be in a limited number of players hands), double-teams, and time constraints. If, for example, the Lakers are down by three with five seconds to go, the ball is going into the hands of Kobe, who has played 40 minute. He'll be double or triple teamed at the 3-point line, and he'll have very little time to get a shot off.

Made shots makes chuckers look clutch. If you issue is with sample size, the Clutch FG% since 2000 uses a min of 650 shots taken.

Who used the entire 4th?
