Two blatant no calls for LeBron, that was pathetic. OKC certainly put themselves in a shitty position due to the slow start, but LeBron clearly got away with two fouls there.

http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/miamiheat/post/_/id/14698/dan-crawford-the-heat-and-the-1-9-percent

"In the nine postseasons since 2004 (the “Dwyane Wade era”), the Heat are 13-3 in playoff games reffed by Dan Crawford and 48-40 in all other playoff games in that span.  ...  Adding up their point spread-based win probabilities across all 16 games, the Heat should have won about nine games on average. Even more, given the point-spread based probability of winning each game, the chance that Miami would go 13-3 or better in those 16 games is 1.9%."

no, still wrong - this game was won in the 1st quarter anyway (OKC tied or won every other quarter but never lead). Durant got fouled by LeBron but hey, he should have fouled out himself before that if they had been calling it tight. In general this is not going to be a tightly-called series like Boston-Heat because it'll be up and down, fast-moving basketball.

Anyway, what's the conspiracy this time? Stern wants Miami to win, after letting them lose to Dallas last year....? I just don't get it.

Well, until the fourth when the Heat seize up, LeBron camps out by the half court line, and they try to run their "offense" off an isolation with seven seconds to go on the clock.

Last game made me semi-rage over LeBron's backing up to the half-court line on every possession. He'll get the ball inside the three point line, and back out to the logo at center court to size up his man. It's insufferable. If he doesn't do that, it doesn't change the defense he faces in anyway because he's the most unstoppable player in the league in terms of speed, size and ability to drive. All he's doing is adding two steps he has to take, and giving the defense more time to collapse on him.

I really don't know who to blame over not breaking him of this. I consider it worse than any of the concerns over whether he has a post game.

Game Six when he terrorized Boston he did none of this, he operated far closer in and they couldn't do anything.

It bothers me also. It's like running a prevent defense in football or something. I get that they were trying to run the game clock but it was clearly hampering their efforts to get a good shoot. Miami is often very slow to get into what passes as their offense sets because Lebron and Wade are often doing crossovers or sizing up their guys one on one instead of passing the ball around.

On another note, I'm not sure where Battier found his shot since he didn't have it all season but I hope it stays for this finals.

To give Spolestra some credit (gasp) I also like how he is barely playing Joel Anthony. He is too much of an offensive liability.

The LeBron-Wade pick and roll is one of the best plays in the league, and they barely run it. They were running it and then Durant had five fouls and they STOPPED RUNNING IT.

I really don't get this team at all.

Why does Bosh take threes?

Why don't they run?

Why do they stand around so much?

Why do they collapse to the paint when they have no size?

Hey I've watched a lot of Heat basketball over the last 2 seasons and think these thoughts every game. Which is why I always harp on the idea that they need a new coach. The fact that they reached the finals again regardless of the outcome almost ensures Spolestra will stay  unfortunately. Can you imagine someone like Rick Carlise coaching this team and how much better they would be.

They are one of the most frustrating teams to watch win or lose because you see all the flaws despite the talent. You don't even have to be a basketball savant to see the issues.

Watched the Dream Team TV special. It was good. It was basically a love letter to that era and those guys but even still certain deeper insight can be drawn into some of those guys and their relationships.

And better I think those guys come of exactly as they are both flaws and good qualities.

Can't wait to watch it. Naturally most of the talk around here has been in relation to the MJ v Isaiah Thomas feud that ultimately led to him being left off the team. MJ has never been popular in Detroit but that was probably the last nail in the coffin.

Likewise, the Magic v Thomas involvement. At one point they were good friends, with Magic even attending Thomas' basketball camps in Detroit. That changed shortly after Detroit won their first title and only got worse over the following years. Thomas allegedly spread rumors about Magic being gay, and MJ later used that to also get Magic to essentially veto Thomas from being on the Dream Team.

Interestingly, Magic had been dogged by gay rumors for awhile, going back to his time at MSU. I find it hard to believe his sexuality was that big of a mystery given how blatant some of his escapades were.

While MJ didn't cop to actually explicitly saying he wouldn't sign up until Isaiah was not to be asked on the team, you can sure read between the lines and see that , he waited until that was the case before he did.

One thing that really struck me was DAVID ROBINSON talking about what a 'freak of nature' MJ was in those days. By any standard, Robinson himself is surely one of the most amazing specimens sports has ever seen.

Even Chuck Daley didn't go to bad for Isaiah. MJ was calling the shots and ultimately would get whatever he wanted. From a business perspective it was the right thing to do given the situation, but it was still shitty. Then again, who do you replace to put him on the team? I haven't seen the doc yet, but I've heard Stockton was the last replacement basically

On a side note about the finals what's really noticeable is the very minor differences in quality of play between the big two on both sides.

Lebron and Durant's per for the playoffs are 30.93 - 28.83

And Westbrook has now slightly outplayed Wade for the playoffs 22.80 to 22.11.

I don't think most people started this playoffs with the idea that Westbrook is a better player than Wade.

I was more making the point that wade has had a relatively subpar playoffs for him and for arguably one of the poorer playoff showings of his career. Not that per is the only stat that matters.

but yeah if you want to be honest westbrook has played about as well as wade over the course of this playoffs as wade has had some absolute dog games and consistently has been average in the first half of nearly every game including some lazy defense at times or not getting back to his man at all. Which is still not the same as saying westbrook is as skilled as wade or wade has a higher top end when he puts it all together.

Wade has some of the most hair brained turnovers in games. Often times a play maker will turn the ball over trying to force a play. He just does the craziest, laziest looking stuff and it's just baffling.

Westbrook is easily a top 10 player and has a great jump shot up to 15 feet. He made a few bad decisions but he's still a major, major asset and he'll show that for the rest of the series, I guarantee.

lies sir!  I watched the entire series between Boston and Miami, and both finals games from start to finish.

And I don't know, Westbrook's perimeter shot beyond that range have been mostly bricks that I've seen so far this post season.  The reason I said that about Wade is that I think his fadeaway is one of the better ones I've seen in the league.
