mods work on the latest patch, just not that ENB one that makes the game look even better

the game still looks substantially better than it did on consoles and biggest issue is the lack of AA.  Also compared to the console versions, the controls are a lot more responsive when using a 360 controller.

GTA4 for $5 is worth it just to mess around in the first person mod with tons of cheats.

do the mods make the game playable and fun

depends on how much you disliked GTA4

I think using a trainer helps a lot.  There are a lot of cheats to use, but even if you want to play the game for real, you can do things like make all character relationships 100% so you don't need to accept cellphone calls.  There are a lot of crazy cheats too like being able to fly, teleporting around the world, a gravity gun, locking the time of day, etc.

I played RFG way before JC2, but I was replaying it on PC and JC2 did kill my interest in continuing with it.

though, I wish that JC2 had the destruction of RFG. Then again, RFG didn't have any huge buildings in it while JC2 has several cities and huge buildings.

The whole time I was playing JC2 I wished it had the destruction of RFG.

I think I liked RFG and JC2 about equally.  Both have a lot going for them and both repetitive and have a lot going against them as well.  Probably my favorite two sandbox games this gen.

For today's sale bought Flatout, can use a fun arcade racer for $2.

Eric P, what did you like about JC2?

I haven't tried JC2 beyond running benchmarks but the eye candy is amazing.

i liked the diversity of environment the most.  i could do missions in city scapes, jungles, icy mountains, deserts and oceans and it was all open to me from the start.

quick travel (the bane of these games) is not a problem.  I'm at point A, I want to get to point B but I'm impatient and want to just do stuff at point B immediately, i can call in an chopper evac and be magically teleported to that location (assuming i'd "discovered" it at some point).

If i don't want to do the varied and scripted missions, i can cause havoc on my own on my terms

if i didn't want to cause havoc i could do missions which were varied to the point of my doing every single side mission available in the game, something i never, ever do.

after playing JC2, RFG just seemed so slow and monochromatic by comparison

yeah, I think what makes JC2 a lot of fun is that you never feel like you're wasting time traveling.  Even if you ignored the quick travel, the parachute, grapple, and all the different types of vehicles, etc. the game still has tons of things to destroy or collect.

it looks like the DLC is on sale too and I'd recommend getting the one with the jetpack parachute booster.  Even if you don't mod it with super speed or infinite boost, it makes traveling around easier.

I'll definitely pick up some of the Just Cause 2 DLC, I've been meaning to get back into it.

This happens every time there's a really cheap game that requires a CD-key. They'll request some more keys, but it'll probably be a few days. Unless the publisher lost the key generator like with Prey, and they can't generate any more keys. :lol (in that case they refunded everybody)

That superman mod is actually kinda disappointing because it doesn't make any sound when you fly around.  I don't know if later versions of it added the swoosh noise when you fall, but it would help a lot.  Still impressed by the mods JC2 gets.

does anyone else ever feel tempted to rebuy games they have bought on other download services?

I got Thief 3 on direct2drive, but at $3 it's tempting to double dip on steam just because it's so much easier to just click "install" and then click "play" instead of having to go and log in and download the exe and install the game.  Probably won't double dip but it's tempting and the reason I don't buy things from other services anymore.

Also might get Madballs because apparently it's good?

Stuff like EA games keep track of how many times you've installed the game.  If you've forgotten to uninstall or had a borked OS a couple of times then the CD key might no longer work.

I wasn't aware of that until some of my Steam games wouldn't work.  Before, I've always thought that Steam takes care of all DRM issues.  When I contacted Steam about getting me new keys, they just ignore my requests.  Many others have complained of the same treatment from Steam regarding such issues.

D2D is much better at resolving such problems.  I had to request a new key twice for a game during a particularly bad streak of OS upgrades and they came through quickly without any questions.
