There is no law in liberal states. People are fearless of consequences. They think everything is wonderful like a college campus. Coincidently, around the same time this happens a goddamn college professor from around here sends out this mass text about voting for fucking "Haddad" which is the left wing puppet of one of the former presidents that is in jail.
WHAT
Why are you basing this off of Brazil and not America or Canada?
That is a bit more complex. The U.S and Canada are not the same as here. And there can be an argument made that those 'liberal' states were not always liberal, and the foundation for those places my not be as liberal as you think.
They are liberal now because of a multitude of reasons and who is to say those places will be the same in the next few decades?? What will San Fran look like in another 20 years with it's rampant homeless people problem?
It's like saying if China went all liberal "oh look China is liberal now, they're rich, peaceful, see liberalism works" while ignoring a bunch of other factors.
But this isn’t the case. They WERE liberal. The definitions of liberal have simply changed.
Please read about the Age of Enlightenment. The values we have are liberal. Not the Fox News definition of the word.
It stems from John Locke and the Protestant reformation. John Locke posited that humans have the God-given will and liberty to make their own decisions. But unlike the Age of Enlightenment which was secular, Locke based a lot of his his philosophy around religious liberty: the freedom to worship your own religion, the freedom to interpret your holy texts as you choose. Which is anti-Catholic as Catholicism argues that only the clergy and the Pope had religious sovreignty the liberty to interpret. Liberalism is derived from liberty: the idea of sovreignty being defined as the ability to makes your own choices without ruling authority and defined this as the common good. That IS liberalism in a nutshell. The opposing factions, namely Catholicism, upholded age old ideas that nobility were chosen by God and used this to give the idea of hierarchy (nobility, aristocracy). This was the idea that you had your place and you were born into it no matter what which goes against the idea of liberty. That is conservatism, or traditionalism at least.
Basically, liberalism is deeply entrenched into the fabric of American society. It’s the basic template for which we are
free. By contrast, traditonalists were still the same people opining the progress being made even fifty years ago in the 60’s.
Be conservative. Be liberal. Whatever.
But bad history is something that shouldn’t be taken seriously. Saying that America was never liberal is smart dumb af and this is a poor reason to base your political beliefs on.
Read history and philosophy. Read the history of liberalism and what it truly means. Shit, take a college class once you’re back in the states.
