Rock Band is on its way to the iPhone! Forget everything you thought you knew about beat-matching music games on the iPhone, EA Mobile’s Rock Band is by far the best in its class. We had a chance to sit down with EA Mobile at CTIA WITE 2009 to get a sneak-peek at Rock Band for iPhone, and it’s looking good. The game gives you the option of playing on your own, taking a world tour (as you unlock points for new songs) or jam with up to four of your iPhone friends in person or over the internet. Linking up for 4-way multi-player mode is done over Bluetooth, so you don’t even have to worry about finding a hotspot to get your jam on!
The iPhone port of Rock Band gives the gamer the same look and feel as the console version – graphics, gameplay and sound effects are all very familiar. Just like the console version, Rock Band for iPhone offers four different instruments to play – bass, guitar, drums and even vocals. The game comes loaded with 20 songs, all of them master versions from the real-life band (no cover songs). And, with in-app purchases now supported on the iPhone OS 3.0, Rock Band for iPhone will allow you buy new song packs directly from EA Mobile. How sweet is that?
[Update]
There’s no hard launch date set, but the game is going in for AppStore approval within a week. After that, it’s up to Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) to pull the trigger.
Will bite if it supports existing library.

Um. How would it do that? The console versions don't.

What? How can you not include them? They're full price retail games with all the same features as a full version of Rock Band. Rock Band fan boys don't count them. People who are war neutral count them.
Plus theres Rock Band MObile AND Rock Band iPhone
If you count the Track Packs, which are designed for people who cannot buy online content and not as standalone titles, then you might as well count XBL points cards as Rock Band retail games too. Your logic is distinguished mentally-challenged.
It's pretty clear than Activision has made TWO TIMES the amount of Guitar Hero games than Harmonix/EA has with Rock Band.
You act like zero develolpment time went into those track packs when that's far from the case. Your lack of knowledge in development and my superious knowledge in it is that of your knowledge of gary whittas penis. Those track packs take people to work on, budget and more. They count as full games. In fact, the Metal one costs just as much as GH:Shits did.
red alert iphone looks fudruckin' INSANE
That's sick. Hopefully its not more than a few bucks
Well, the cellphone games are virtually equal, if you consider each version is just one phone platform that it is on. And I don't really believe in cellphone gaming, but in 1 week we got Rock Band Mobile and iPhone Rock Band, but are they really different games? One is on the iPhone and one is on Verizon phones. Same with the GH mess. I hate mobile platforms.
As for DJ Hero, it's a new instrument that kinda supports the guitar on 1/10th of the songs as a gimmick. It's a new franchise in its own right.
But what are we arguing in the end, SKUs released or advertising presence? How much shelf space the track packs take up at a Gamestop (A lot) or how often we see the stupid GH commercial with "Old Time Rock'n Roll?"
What about retail space taken up?
Both of them have branded hats, boxers, shirts and sweat pants sold at Best Buy, Target and Wal-Mart. They both fill the stores with a plethora of fake instruments. RB just took the cake releasing 2 different full instrument bundles for TBRB, and 2 additional stand-alone guitars.
At least Lego Rock Band doesn't have a bundle, while Band Hero does. GH5 was standalone and w/guitar only. Band Hero is Guitar/Drums/Mic or Standalone.
Plus Madcatz and Ion have filled the accessories section with the Ion Drum Rocker, plenty of branded RB2 guitars and a whole host of other junk, far outstripping any merchandising Guitar Hero has. Not to mention the stupid 3D figure printing shit.
On the other hand DJ Hero has the fucking outrageous cost AND the even more stupid-expensive Jay-Z/Em edition that's $200 for ONE CONTROLLER AND A STAND.
In the end, it's all a mess.
Hopefully next year will be more toned down. We knew about this year being a mess back in 2008. All I hear about forthcoming in 2010 is Smash Hits 2 and GH PSP, aside from the expected sequels.
So what is milking? Releasing individual titles that each demand the player play the game? What's your take on Singstar? That releases shit constantly, but you don't have to buy them all. And the band games are dedicated, so if you don't like Metallica, no skin off my back. They are track packs, just stand alone. And the track packs have achievements, just not full achievements like Metallica/Aerosmith. However, they scale in price. 20 songs for $30 versus 45 for $60.
I'm sorry that you don't understand development times and production times Wilco, the fact of the matter is that the track packs take as much resources if not more than some of the GH games.
Also, the early track packs don't export on Wii and NONE do on PS2. So nyah! QED
So they just pull those track packs out of thin air eh? The fucking songs themselves have to be charted. That in itself takes as much time as it does to chart a GH song if not more.
So they just pull those track packs out of thin air eh? The fucking songs themselves have to be charted. That in itself takes as much time as it does to chart a GH song if not more.Huh? "if not more" - How could charting take more time for a track pack than for any song in the initial game?
Also you do know that the track packs can be played as stand alone games right? I believe that in itself means they should count as full releases, especially since some of them include exclusive songs.
Are you also thinking that the "Tales from Liberty City" disc for GTA IV, which supports standalone play without the original GTA IV disk, is also a discounted price compared to buying the (non-Greatest Hits release) main game? Do you think that Rockstar put the same amount of effort into those Tales as they did the development of GTA IV?No. Sweet Christ, no. There's nothing that can match the amount of man-hours on GTA IV
Look at the screens. This isn't a port.
lol remember when Ntards told us the DS was going to be the rebirth of the RTS

Carmack reports that they do plan on supporting Doom Classic with further updates, but don't plan on making a Lite version. While he will be stepping back from direct iPhone development in the near future, he will put some time into working out a good touch interface for the upcoming Quake Classic for the iPhone. Meanwhile, work on an iPhone specific version of Doom 2 RPG is already underway, and if its well received, they will probably bring over Orcs & Elves as well
GTA: Chinatown Wars is out for $9.99Will defiitely pick this up. I was playing the DS version but once I heard about this one I decided to drop it and wait for it on the iphone.
Capcom has announced plans to bring Street Fighter IV to the iPhone.http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/street-fighter-iv-coming-to-iphone (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/street-fighter-iv-coming-to-iphone)
The company has spent months working on a control system, according to IGN. You'll use a virtual pad and buttons, choosing from a range of control configurations with various button positions, transparency and set-up. A Dojo Mode will help you get acquainted before entering the tournament proper.
The iPhone game will use the same assets as the current console versions so the recently introduced art style will feature, along with scaled down character models. Complete move sets will be present and correct, including Ultras and their full animations.
Only two fighters are confirmed so far - Ken and Ryu. However, a "large roster" is promised and said to feature both old and new faces.
On top of all that, there's a multiplayer mode so two players can battle it out via Bluetooth.
Capcom has yet to announce a price, but Street Fighter IV is scheduled to hit the US App Store in March.
Capcom plans to charge $10 for Street Fighter IV on iPhone next month - a figure that translates to around Ł5.99 here.
The price was revealed by GamePro along with confirmation that on iPhone there will be only eight Street Fighter IV characters to play as: Ken, Guile, Blanka, Chun-Li, Dhalsim, M.Bison, Abel and of course Ryu.
Street Fighter IV works on iPhone by displaying a directional pad on the left of the touch-screen and face buttons on the right. This appears to work very well, if a videoed demonstration can be trusted. Which it probably can't. The console-like presentation alone is worth a look.
"It came to the point where we were getting customer complaints from women who found the content getting too degrading and objectionable, as well as parents who were upset with what their kids were able to see," Apple's Philip Schiller, head of worldwide product marketing, told the New York Times.http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/apple-defends-app-store-titillation-purge (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/apple-defends-app-store-titillation-purge)
"We obviously care about developers, but in the end have to put the needs of the kids and parents first," he added.
Schiller said things came to a head when "an increasing number of apps containing very objectionable content" were submitted to the Store. Tut tut. [Surely "tit tit". - Ed]
Wobble iBoobs developer Jon Atherton was among the first to find his assets whipped off the App Store. He was given a long list of things to avoid (via Kotaku).
1. "No images of women in bikinis (Ice skating tights are not OK either)
2. "No images of men in bikinis! (I didn't ask about Ice Skating tights for men)
3. "No skin (he seriously said this) (I asked if a Burqa was OK, and the Apple guy got angry)
4. "No silhouettes that indicate that Wobble can be used for wobbling boobs (yes - I am serious, we have to remove the silhouette in [our] pic)
5. "No sexual connotations or innuendo: boobs, babes, booty, sex - all banned
6. "Nothing that can be sexually arousing!! (I doubt many people could get aroused with [our] pic but those puritanical guys at Apple must get off on pretty mundane things to find Wobble overtly sexual!)
7. "No apps will be approved that in any way imply sexual content (not sure how Playboy is still in the store, but...)"

Having recently played a LOT of GTA: Chinatown Wars on my DS, I can't really imagine how the controls would translate. I have a hard time in Animal Crossing using a touch screen to pick up fruits or pull grass, and the few "onscreen d-pad" games I've bought for iPod Touch have been an abomination. I thought Rockstar might change the controls for the cars, so the user would touch-and-drag where they want the car to go, moving their contact-point further away from the car for more acceleration, behind it to brake, etc.GTA: Chinatown Wars on iPhone is superior to both the DS and PSP versions.
It has inferior graphics than the PSP iteration, missing pedestrian chatter, they removed quite a bit of music to reduce file size, and due to lack of a second screen there's no easy to access map. Most importantly, both the DS and PSP versions control better thanks to actual d-pad and buttons. The iPhone iteration comes out on top in price since it's selling for a meager $10 (was $7 this weekend) but I'd still place it as the worst simply due to poor controls and the removal of features
Titty lovers are not welcomeYeah, Apple is new to the game business, having been the joke of it for so long in the home computer community. ("Mac has games like Marathon, Dark Castle, and... um, Photoshop..." ) It doesn't surprise me that they're managing to alienate their devs along with mollycoddling their userbase. Apple and Nintendo share some similar ethos.Quote"It came to the point where we were getting customer complaints from women who found the content getting too degrading and objectionable, as well as parents who were upset with what their kids were able to see," Apple's Philip Schiller, head of worldwide product marketing, told the New York Times.:rofl

I haven't played GTA on my iphone and I agree that onscreen d-pads always suck, but you gotta try it on Space Ore Bust. It's really the only iphone game that I've played that the onscreen controls work so well that you don't even think about it.
Not sure if there's a light version out there or not, but if there is you should give it a shot.

Not wanting to purchase an iPad because it's a flaming piece of shit is not as silly as your outrage over Apple's draconian stance on bunch of useless applications. Where were you for the past 20 years? This bullshit is pretty standard MO for Apple. Regardless, you came to your senses so that's all that counts.

Thanks for taking one for the team. I'm convinced it's going to be crap but then again they could pull off a different but still decent version of the game.

Space Miner: Space Ore or Bust is on sale for $1.99 - totally worth it, imo. It's basically Asteroids mixed with an RPG but it's completely addicitive. I just keep going back to it time and time again so I can upgrade my ship even further.
And I may be a humongous cigarillo but I can't help but love the Virtual Villagers games (2, and 3 especially). It's like animal crossing/The Sims combined with an ant farm fused with Survivor. You don't have real control over your people on the island but you can eventually make them learn behaviors like becoming builders, scientists, farmers, doctors, etc. and they can mate to expand your population but you have to figure out ways to create sustainable food sources, housing, researching technology, etc. to allow them to live, if not they die. They'll kick the bucket either from old age, accidents, famine, disease, etc. so you have to keep going back to it time and time again to check up on the people 'cause it runs in the background all the time regardless if you're playing it or not. Plus there's a series of goals and mysteries you have to solve and or perform to "win" the game so it's not all completely pointless. IMO, the VV games are the best bang for the buck on the entire iTunes store.
Man, iOS4 has kind of been of a clusterfuck. From the first generation not even being able to utilize it, to apps slowing down on 3G/3GS phones, to apps not even running at all!
Does Spectre VR have drop-in play, like I can jump into someone's server without having to make my own and wait for people to join up?
Also: I thought about Ridge Racer but then I heard that Namco was doing that nickel-and-dime bullshit where you only get one track and they try to sell the others separately. God when are the Japanese going to get it
I picked up Ridge Racer Accelerated. I never played the game before this latest update, but I know they added some new control schemes. Didn't even try to use the accelerometer scheme and went right for the d-pad style set-up, which has left and right steering buttons (like a Playstation controller) and gas and accel. Works pretty decently and the game runs really smoothly on the iPhone 4. It choked when I tried to use the custom music option, however, and the frame rate can't touch the PSP version.
Also I see that the Macintosh classic Spectre VR is out for iPhone! There's a lite version you can try; controls are pretty good. I will probably pick this up.
I really hope there will be some quality WRPGs on the Iphone. Square is already a player and its weird, Bethesda/Bioware etc are not getting into this at all.
So Civ Revolution is free right now. No idea why but it's looks like it's worth a download

Website (http://newpotatotech.com/PINBALL_MAGIC/pinball_magic.html) :rofl
It's so stupid, I love it. You can buy one at a Best Buy store or order it online. Once done you'll need to download the FREE (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pinball-magic/id386227124?mt=8) game to take advantage of the accessory. Although the game is free it won't work properly unless you have the dinky pinball shell.
This 400+MB behemoth of a JRPG (actually KRPG) is out now.
Crimson Gem Saga, a port of a PSP title, $10.
I am grabbing it for shits and giggles. Seriously, how bad can it be?
WTF it's not on the store. Oh well.
Was looking at videos of dodonpachi and am wondering how you control it on iphone.
How does it play? Judging by the videos I've watched, there seems to be a level of precision in movement involved that I'm doubting the iphone can replicate. Does it feel as if there are less weapons to dodge to compensate?
Yeah, the touchscreen is actually stupid precise for these Cave titles. In fact, I'd say they are SO precise that it actually gives the player an unfair advantage and makes for an easier game.

It plays amazingly well, and it's actually more precise than the arcade counterpart because of the touch control. I talked to a friend from Cave last night, and from what I can remember from our boozed-out conversation, no sacrifices were made and in fact the developers remixed the game in a lot of ways, giving it a lot of extra content. Tons of replay value here, it's crazy.

Hey there is some cool shit coming out of the Apple event this morning. Chair is making a game for Epic with UE3 on the iPhone that comes out next week for free. Some sort of fantasy action game where you beat up monsters or some shit.
Also, their Game Center system is out today :hyper It's nice there's a consolidated system now.
Also, Mirror's Edge comes out at 8pm tonight for iPhone (finally). I will buy this because Mirror's Edge is the story of my life

Mushihime-sama Bug Panic is out for $5 I think. Anyone pick it up? Looks kinda crappy.
How is the port?
Cut the Rope is really fucking good.
Puzzle Quest 2 is a fucking abomination. Why did I pay $12 for this shit?
Even on an iPhone 4, it looks shit, responds like shit, and has some of the worst UI I have ever witnessed on my iPhone.
I might give it a try on iPad to see if it's playable, at least.
Seriously, what a disaster.

HUGE fuckin sales going on. Everything from EA is 99 cents, iPhone OR iPad. I have bought a ton of them. Clue is excellent as is Yahtzee Adventures!
Also Bad Company 2 came out at 99 cents today.
Other big releases are Aralon and some Gameloft clone shit that is probably passable (Nova, Uncharted ripoff, FF ripoff)
Konami also has a sale. The Castlevania Puzzle game is 99 cents.

Yep, Secret of Mana is out, and I am not touching it.
My PSP is so sad these days. If only Persona 3 Portable would work on hardware with CFW installed :(
Hot Pursuit is pretty good and the brand-new mode is icing. There could have been a little more tilt when you use the 3rd person camera but it's a damn fine game.

Got those two as well. Both worth 5x the price at least.
What? I haven't heard any ninthing bitch about it, whereas now that they have a starcraft ripoff, PC gamers are flipping a shit.
Wow Real Racing 2 is awesome. Definitely worth five bucks.

Games included as "innovative billing service" debuted in News Corp's The Daily spreads its wings
A whole host of App Store content – crucially, including games – can now offer users a subscription service as part of Apple's billing service.
The payment option was first debuted as part of News Corp's digital newspaper The Daily. It will use the same infrastructure currently used for in-game purchases with subscriptions available in weekly, monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, bi-yearly or annual increments.
Personal subscriptions can be managed and cancelled from a user's Apple account page.
And interestingly, Apple has highlighted its generous revenue options for developers as part of this new service. Partners will be free to sell subscriptions via their own portals, and will keep all of the money raised from these independent sales.
The only stipulation is that any subscriptions offers made outside of the App Store environment must also be made available to customers via Apple's portal.
“Our philosophy is simple—when Apple brings a new subscriber to the app, Apple earns a 30 per cent share; when the publisher brings an existing or new subscriber to the app, the publisher keeps 100 per cent and Apple earns nothing,” Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs stated.
“All we require is that, if a publisher is making a subscription offer outside of the app, the same (or better) offer be made inside the app, so that customers can easily subscribe with one-click right in the app.
"We believe that this innovative subscription service will provide publishers with a brand new opportunity to expand digital access to their content onto the iPad, iPod touch and iPhone, delighting both new and existing subscribers.”

Markus Persson, founder of Mojang, the Swedish developer behind indie phenomenon Minecraft, has exclusively revealed to Gamasutra that an official iOS version of the hit game is currently in the works for iPhone and iPad.
The port is being developed by Aron Neiminen, a new recruit to the Mojang team, and will be released later this year.
Persson said that the iOS edition will not receive every update that the original browser and download version gets, but rather will be granted those features that "make sense" for the touch-screen platform.
The game has received numerous unofficial Minecraft releases on iPhone and iPad, but this is the first official iOS release from the Mojang team.
Minecraft is currently in the beta stages, with a full release planned sometime this year. So far over 1.3 million copies of the game have been purchased, with nearly five million registered accounts on the official site.
What was the name of that zelda clone that i think hsmp was pimping one time?
Zenonia was one of my first app purchases, but I only played about 20 mins due to the controls.
Any good strategy Games? I bet those would work well

Sword and Sworcery just came out. I need an iPad :-\
Hey buttholios
Sumo Digital ported Sonic All Star Racing to the iPhone for $2 and it good
I'll pick it up eventually but I've been playing the piss out of some Tiny Tower.
So yeah, Tiny Tower.
Even though I hate just about every F2P title out there I went ahead and downloaded Tiny Tower because that seems to be the iOS game du jour. I suppose it's less offensive than most F2P games out there in that you can actually get away with "playing" this and not get to a point where you're totally fucked and need to buy items to continue. Nothing here is going to disappear. No stocked items are going to spoil. Bitizens aren't going to die of old age or from neglect. That said, it's just a bunch of OCD nonsense ala farmville but for whatever reason I'm still finding myself restocking my stores and building levels....I kinda feel dirty for "playing" this thing.
The one thing Tiny Tower has made me aware of though is that we don't have anywhere here at EB for our Game Center IDs. I don't know how many people here actually game on their iphone/ipad/itouch but we could have a list of Game Center IDs of those that do.
Anyway, my ID: pocketfudge
anyone play that new street fighter 4 game out today? it's only a buck

Huh. I wonder if this will be a typically inflated distinguished mentally-challenged Japanese price
I dunno; I think 10 yanqui dolla is a reasonable price for a mobile app. This 99˘ stuff is not a sustainable model for most devs.
There's some new Kairosoft game on the store that ISN'T grand prix story - Pocket Academy.

Guess I have to wait til I finish Wolf RPG before I can play Death Smiles, unless any of you guys know if "synching Apps" from PC to iPhone actually keeps the saved games you have on those apps when it "overwrites" them.
I thought Tiny Tower was okay. Not that I can complain since I got it for free. I'd rather just start a new game of Game Dev Story.

Trust that gut feeling, I was wasting way too much time on it, didn't miss it for a minute when I finally woke up and deleted it.
There's something about Mega Mall that's much better that the other titles. Maybe it's the strategy in position stores as well as deciding which ones to use?
king of fighters-i is awesome
(super) scribblenauts randomly came out for $5 with extra content
the original scribblenauts was shitty shitty shit and hideously ugly. this version isn't as ugly. improvement, huzzah.
and if I get the 4S soon, I have to read up on what games are worth getting...for 99 cents on sale.
no, it came out with cut content. it's kind of a "best hits sampler". it has 40 levels, taken from the 220 in Scribblenauts and the 120 in Super Scribblenauts. Which, if you are inclined to buy bad games, you can get a double-pack of for $30. So it's 1/6th the price but 1/8th the content. That's the kind of math that WORKS for Appletards.
are there any other good turn-based multiplayer games out there?
Gameloft's entire library reminds me of Doom and WADs, except for Diablo. The Diablo 2 demo is alright, but the tap/touch mode still requires you to hit an attack button for some reason. I thought the controls in the Zelda DS games worked fine for the most part. Make a loot game with those controls and I'd buy it at the full $5 price point.
the best iphone games I've played so far are from Cave and IMDB Trivia
and I don't know if it's the 4S or this is how they were on the 4, but games look pretty good and run incredibly smooth. It's as or more impressive than stuff I've seen on my 3DS or PSP.
and to give Gameloft some praise, placing touch icons on the environment is pretty cool.
heads up: you can get Super Monkey Ball 2 for free today
Ghost Recon Shadow Wars (the 3DS tactical game) is coming to the iphone
glad I didn't buy it on the 3ds now

There's some new Kairosoft gaming where you build up a Japanese town in a previous era.
The Kairosoft games are so, so addictive, but as games they are kind of shitty. I'm pretty sure you'd have to be completely distinguished mentally-challenged to lose at any of them. Mega Mall suffered really badly from that. It almost doesn't seem to matter what you do, you'll always end up better and better year over year, so it kind of takes the fun out of things.
the controls in wizardry are so bad :yuck
they're bad for iPhone standards

Can you gift iOS games like Steam? I am buying a Touch this weekend, and set up my account on iTunes, if anyone wants to hook a nicca up.
dead space seems decent. I mean, the controls aren't bad. Usually I stop playing touch analog stick games after it gets annoying, so like 40 seconds. I played Dead Space for 7 whole minutes and will go back to it.

demi, the best Puzzle Quest-style game is DUNGEON RAID, though it has no story to speak of. the PQ2 port is borked and will never be fixed at this point.
Space Miner is a super fun Upgrade Forever game; everyone should grab it.
does game dev story ever go on sale?
the other kairo games go on sale but judging by the demos, I like game dev the most. the lite version only lets me be a master system exclusive dev for about a day before it ends.
If you don't have Pix'n Love Rush you should download it. The iPad verision just went Universal. It's a fun little arcadey platformer.

Depends if you really want Chrono Trigger. Nothing special about it. I want them to drop Chaos Rings cuz I want to play that : (
I suck at Carcassone. How the hell should I be playing this? I have no strategy. :'(
nice. thanks.
random question, but do people actually buy in app purchases? that jetpack runner game has an option to spend 12 dollars on in-game currency :S doesn't even make sense for that type of game.

The story of how that port came about is pretty cool too. Apparently it's by some crazed Sonic fan who wrote a new interpreter for the Sonic games, and pitched it to Sega. Oh god, if the Streets of Rage Remake from those insane Brazilian guys got the same treatment...

Any in depth impressions?
King cashing is the best game to play for a minute at a time. I don't know if I would like it on consoles or ds/psp (maybe PC).
I still haven't played much of dead space even though it seems cool. I don't have the attention or time to play a console style game on the go. I guess the difference is that I'm playing it on my iphone, so ipad standards are different.

On an iPad 2, it runs anything "old" perfectly (Ms. Pacman, Frogger, Joust, Galaga, etc.) CPS2 and Neo Geo run great, too (SF2CE, Final Fight, Metal Slug 1+2, Magician Lord). Konami 4-6 player sidescrollers are also fine. Some racing games and modern beat-em-ups give it grief, as do MK2 and UMK3, sadly. Overall, though, it runs a lot more games a lot better than I expected. If iMAME comes back and you can still drop in your own ROMS, I highly recommend it.
The box itself is wood, not plastic, and much better build quality than you might expect. It IS a tiny arcade machine.
lovin super crate box. works really well on the iPad. will play even better when I get my icade tomorrow!
Despite having all these awesome games I still only really play Caracassonne. It's so good.Yeah, I like playing it even though I always come in last to you and Groo. :P

My favorite "I can't believe this game has touch controls" is Forget-Me-Not. It goes from clever to AWESOME with the iCade. Hope you're enjoying it!

My favorite iCade games are:
iMAME (duh)
Super Crate Box / Muffin Knight
Forget-Me-Not
Boxcat
Everything Minter
I must be doing something wrong because i found Muffin Knight horrendous. Is the character SUPPOSED to be jumping all the time?!
I tried Forget-Me-Not - madness! Really cool stuff. Bought Boxcat just now :)

Los Altos, CA; Paris, France – February 2, 2012. Days of Wonder today announced a major update to their best-selling iPhone/iPod Touch board game Ticket to Ride® Pocket, letting players challenge friends in Apple’s GameCenter for the first time. With this update, players can play multiple simultaneous games against their friends around the world, with support for up to 4 online friends in each game. Most importantly, this new game mode supports asynchronous gameplay, letting players switch from game to game and even to other apps without losing their progress.
“This is the update Ticket to Ride players have been clamoring for since we released Ticket to Ride Pocket.” Said Eric Hautemont, Days of Wonder Founder and CEO. “We love online gameplay, but faced a challenge: ‘how do you create a great online experience on a device like the phone that is constantly being used for other functions?’ We needed to build an experience where players could come and go as they please yet have something meaningful to do when they played; the thought of having multiple games going at once was what convinced us this could work. With Multi Mode, we’ve given players what they want without compromising on the gameplay that made Ticket to Ride so popular to begin with.”
In addition to Multi Mode, Ticket to Ride Pocket allows players to play against nearby friends via an improved “Local Mode”. When connected via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, players can play against each other using any combination of iPhones, iPod Touch devices and even iPads to start spur of the moment games that bring the old school “family game night” into the digital age. And for those that prefer to play alone, 4 AI personalities, 20 unique achievements recognizing the players’ in-game accomplishments and 3 distinct leader boards all await dedicated Ticket to Ride solo players.

Still no update between iphone and ipad but it's a start.
It just makes the dialogue bubbles display a whole line at a time I think. Speeds it up a little. But not a huge difference. Just go to settings on your phone/ipad.

Chaos Rings isnt THAT good- if anything gamelofts Vita offerings prove that most iOS games have a long way to go before theyre where they need to be. iOS succeeds by lowering expectations and leaning on the novelty of tablet gaming.
so better than 3ds then?
So after playing around with FFT on my iPad I've come to realize that I don't have the time or patience for this kind of stuff anymore.

Running on an upgraded and improved version of the Infinity Engine, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition™ will include the entire Baldur's Gate adventure, the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack, and never before seen content including a new adventure and new party member.
Overhaul Games put weeks of speculation to rest today, officially announcing that Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition will be available for iPad this summer, alongside the PC release.
The iPad port will include all the improvements and additions found in the PC version, including full integration of the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack. The title is also running on the refined Baldur's Gate II Infinity Engine, allowing gamers to experience the original adventure with the sequel's refined graphics options and other engine tweaks.
Overhaul has promised that Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition will also feature brand-new story content including more quests and a new party member. Although these details are for now under-wraps, the company has promised that all of the additional story content will also make its way onto the iPad.
I had the opportunity to go hands-on with an early build of Baldur's Gate iPad, and my initial impressions leave me optimistic about the potential of this huge port. For now, Overhaul is primarily demonstrating that this is indeed Baldur's Gate, running on an iPad. It exists, it runs smoothly, and as a company representative put it, "the technical issues are behind us."
- PC Screenshot
Available soon in the palm of your hand.
What hasn't yet been changed is the interface. With the PC version's tiny buttons, very small dialogue selections and incredibly complex menus displayed on an iPad, right now it's tough to effectively play with a touch interface. Overhaul has promised that revised, touch-friendly menus are in the works.
The iPad port's revised pan and zoom camera control shows the potential of a more "player friendly" Baldur's Gate iPad experience. The camera has been fully optimized for iPad and works in the way players expect. They can pinch to zoom their viewpoint in and out, and a simple drag of the finger moves the camera anywhere around the map. A button toggle locks the camera and enables drag selection boxes, making it easy to select multiple enemies in hairy combat situations.
Although the iPad is generally considered a more casual games platform, the potential for games like Baldur's Gate is obvious. This early build proves that there is absolutely no reason rich role-playing experiences can't shine on tablets.
IGN will have much more on BG1's iPad progress in the coming weeks and months.

I need some solid recommends
Here is what I already have:
Chaos Rings - Cleared first story, working on the second
Chaos Rings Omega
Chaos Rings II
Hills and Rivers Remain - completed, was challenging and unique
Crystal Defenders - I'm obsessed with perfect clears and it's hard as hell
Groove Coaster - ehhhhhh
Cave games are all awesome
Dodonpachi Resurrection
Dodonpachi Blissful Death
Bug Panic
Bug Princess
Bug Princess 2
Espgaluda II
Deathsmiles
GameDevStory - this is the only kairosoft game I'll ever need since they are pretty much all the same barring the theme.
Deckmake Fantasy - Having lots of fun with this one
Scar of the Doll - I'm interested in more visual novels of less dubious audiovisual quality

I would also add some new ones I found:
Squids
AC Recollection
Cavorite 2
etc.... at work so cant type much
Maybe you should buy it, MAF
Well it doesnt offer anything new over PSP. But if you prefer to use real controls over touch then get the PSP one.
Adventure Bar Story was also a PSP only game in Japan, so unfortunately that is your only way to play in English.
I would say the ones I posted are good. Why would a virtual d-pad be an issue in an RPG, like Guardian Saga?
Shantae is also on iOS, if you don't have a DSi to play it on (DSiWare only)
I recommend anything on my list. It's on you if you don't prefer the controls. I just weed out the good stuff from the Angry Birds bullshit people play. And Tower Defense. Fuck Tower Defense.

A follow-up to Z2Live’s first big game, TradeNations, BattleNations is available as a free app for iPhone and iPod touch, with options to purchase in-app add-ons.
Other finalists in this category were Glympse (location sharing), PaperKarma (junk-mail avoidance), Swype (mobile input) and One Bus Away (transit). More background here.

Plague, Inc - Almost gave up on this one, took me around a dozen tries before it finally clicked and I beat Bacteria on Normal. Looking around the internet it seems everyone has a different "sure-fire" strategy for winning with all the various plagues, but the one consistent piece of advice is to try and avoid notice by focusing on transmission and keeping symptoms low in the first part of the game. Also this game makes me feel bad for winning :lol
I'm already done with Pocket Planes. It seems so well-designed at first but man it falls apart in a hurry. The main growth you have as you level up is the ability to add more airports, but adding more airports is actually a bad strategy for success. Makes the whole thing feel meaningless too fast.

Hahahahah oh jesus, I want some of what they are smoking at Square Enix, that is an unholy disaster of pricing for the US/EU iOS market. No it's really not. It's a bit like when you want an extension done on your house, you ask for way and beyond what's realistic, and the 'compromise' $15 will be basically what SE will accept. Twewy is another eg, extreme fuckery with the iPhone iPad versions, priced crazy.
Middle Manager of Justice is (everybody sigh now) a freemium title with timers and IAPs.
Sorry, I need to refute this post with intense veracity, but I'm currently in that place where there's janky wifi, and my sausage fingers find it tricky typing on a small phone. No it's really not. With anyone else, I'd buy that, but Square Enix almost never puts their iOS stuff on sale, especially the higher end stuff. They might put this on sale a year or so from now for $24.99 instead of $28.99 or something like that.
I bought it and you unlock jobs in the next chapter. I like it. Hasnt really been difficult so far though, and the encounter rate is a bit high.
Anyone here play New Star Soccer? Shit's good yo, I don't even care about the sport but it's a good combination of sim and field action.

came in here to ask about that
After constructing a house for yourself and a pasture dwelling for your friend, you see a section of unexplored terrain nearby, a treasure chest taunting you from amidst its blue borders. With a simple tap you'll head out on your quest, a small bar at the bottom of the screen showing your progress as well as any events that lay in wait.
When you encounter an enemy during these outings, Beastie Bay game switches to battle mode where you'll choose attack options from a menu. The usual battery of skills, offensive moves, and item uses are available, all depending on which pets you brought with you, and fights feel very much like a round of Pokémon. Once the enemies are cleared and you reach the end of your journey, you gain a new chunk of land to colonize along with any treasures you picked up along the way.
Here's the twist: you're not just battling creatures, you're also capturing them. By tossing out a hunk of monster bait to a weakened enemy, you can often tame them and allow them to join your party. This ties directly into the non-battle portion of the game, as each new companion needs a place to live, so you have to find a suitable spot and settle them in as soon as possible. Pastures and houses eventually go towards gathering resources and attracting tourists, at which point the simulation part of the game kicks in, keeping you enamored until your phone's battery goes flat.

I want to buy just one Cave shooter for my iPhone. Leaning towards one of the cheaper ones since I'm not hardcore about them. Opinions?
Also, does anyone have Fantasy Chronicle? Looks like a neat little JRPG for 99 cents.
I broke down and made a Japanese account and bought SD Gundam G Generation Touch. It's a free download "demo" that asks for 1,000 yen after the first stage to access the full game.

The 1.1 update wrecks the fun of this game. They introduced IAP for gold and a new currency called Dragon Coins. The dragon coins are very tedious to acquire and you need LOADS of them for the worthwhile items. Your current/old items have been stat reduced. Your card skills have been weakened, the one I notice most is that wind card. Nearly all the new enemies (dragons, large slimes) take many hits to kill, they shrink a little til they die. The real problem with that is that, especially with the dragons, they aren't affected by any knock back effects. This is critical, the dragons fly around really fast and randomly spamming the play field and you can't one hit them or knock them back. Very very annoying. The new cards, slow and giant, are TERRIBLE. Slow lasts almost no time at all for what it does and giant lasts no time at all and doesn't even amplify the size of your other card skills. Spend 25 rupees to upgrade your giant card, which goes up .2 of a second per upgrade, and your other older upgraded cards go up 1,000 rupees in cost or more. Oh yeah, how about the fact that rupees and dragon coins will fly directly through you when they explode from the crates or monster kills instead of you receiving them when they fly at you and ought to be picked up. This leaves you running around for them cause they explode all over the place. To add insult to injury, the new sky level bottom bridges are great at allowing your hard to get dragon coins to fall through and be lost, all because you walked on said bridge to retrieve the coin and it moved while you walked on it. There is no way this is accidental behavior, it has to has been designed to eat your coins - like the metal claw game at your local arcade.
This is all a real shame, it was a fun game. Now it just feels like a chore to play! I understand they want a way to make money, hey cool more power to you guys, but you made an already challenging game obnoxiously hard.
Yeah, it's getting to where you should always check before you update games nowadays.
Even if it were only a few bucks, I'd still be annoyed if I were one of the people who paid for the IAP-less version of the game.
driving games on tablets LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
Wrong, wrong, wrong.
Game is fantastic.
I hate touch controls, but credit needs to be given where it's due- it's a better port than all the other home consoles post-Dreamcast. Even has the original soundtrack.
TA, Carma1 controls and looks *exactly* like on the PC back in 1994. Yes, it may be nostalgia speaking, but the game is pretty much perfect on the iOS.
iOS GOTY for me until AB: SW come out.
i'm pretty sure carma doesn't control like it did on PC
As we already knew, there’s no single-player (“In early development, no ETA yet – but it’s coming,” LindApp told me) so the game is entirely dependent on creating multiplayer matches. But there’s no random opponent feature and – crucially – no Game Center support.
This means firing up the app, signing up for a Racer Feud account, then finding your friends by their Racer Feud username or Facebook account. On tightly-knit gaming forums like ours or NeoGAF’s, that won’t present too much of an issue, but for general adoption by the gaming public I fear that’s one labour too many.

I thought GTA3 controlled fine until you got to shooting, and it was funky to begin with on the PS2. If they fixed that, I don't think it would be too bad. Helicopters might be trouble.

The timer mechanic makes it very difficult to cheat as it puts you on the spot to post a word as quickly as possible to gain the most benefit.

Right well it's not looking cheap (as usual) there's 13 track pack bundles with four songs on each. There Ł1.99 per bundle.
Then there also characters to buy at Ł1.49 each.
2 songs with the free version. Unlocking everything available in the retail 3DS version (as much as you can, it's not all there) will run you $80 or so. If you don't care about unlockable characters, the songs in the stock 3DS version will run you about $45.
Stunning.

Cook, serve, delicious is out. I believe it's that GAF dude's game.

Dungeon Raid should keep you busy for awhile. New Star Soccer is also a brilliant game.
Yea it's very fun. PLUS you get the classic games: Bard's Tale 1-3 and that is the *only reason* I wanted to buy the game.
cook serve delicious was awesome in that QL, I wonder how it works on iOS. I have a bluetooth keyboard for iPad

I don't know, I thought the big appeal of cook serve delicious was fumbling with the keyboard. If all the functions are replaced with touch buttons I'm not sure it'll be as fun.
So, what's everyone's game of the year?
I think mine goes to Ski Safari or Kingdom Rush. While both aren't innovative the amount of content and polish is undeniable.

It's inspired by Japanese PS1 game called Ore no Ryouri (if you were into PS1 demo discs back in the day, you might remember it) that was all about manipulating the analog sticks to do these small tasks around a restaurant. ...I was going to type but am tired and, basically, I don't think anything will be lost by playing it on a touch screen. The big appeal of ore no ryouri is how hectic it gets. At first you're doing everything perfectly, and by the end you're a fucking mess trying to keep up.
PC demo was awesome. I voted it up on greenlight a while back. Would totally buy it on ipad if I had one.

I was disappointed by Middle Manager of Justice. The art is cool and the game is polished as hell, but the actual 'game' part of the equation is severely lacking. Basically felt like a slow moving treadmill that funnels you to to an end point.

heads-up to anyone thinking about chrono trigger - the last update kind of broke it from what I've heard. i mean, the game is only going to go on sale once a year, and square will probably fix it sooner or later, but you probably won't be able to play it right away if you buy it.

Its one of the best DS games, though I dont know how it translates on one screen, and it only works on iPhone 4 and abovefuck just saw the price on uk store, i could get a bunch of ea and rockstar games right now and still have money left
Meh I cant bring myself to it now, very disappointed.
Focussing on playing Sworcery and Waking Mars now, both pretty cool.

anyone know if you can transfer saves of FFT between an iphone and an ipad?
You can't. Welcome to the Square-Enix iOS experience!

Crazy Taxi is $2 and actually plays well on the iPhone
I should add it has the original soundtrack

I do! One of my best friends is the lead developer/creator of the game. The major characters are supposedly loosely based on my group of friends. My buddies think that Perkins is me for some reason.
Oh, and Mr. Purrface is definitely real. She is the most awesome cat I have ever met.

Is anyone else playing Zombiewood?
I like it a lot, but I'm getting spoiled by Battle Nations and Middle Manager of Justice and Happy Street letting me play wherever I want, iPhone or iPad, and just pick up where I left off. It seems like games with IAP would support this -- people would play more, and no-one is going to spend money on the same upgrade twice. These games are ALL fairly grindy, so it's weird if there's no iCloud/Gameloft server save option...
It's playable, you just will have to grind and wait more, since when your characters die, you have to wait real world time to regenerate.
And I'm finding it funny the outlash this game gives, when Square's output has been more quality than cashgrab, like, yknow, 96% of iOS developers.
Give me a break.
So its unplayable without iap?
I'm not arguing that the game is shit and nothing but a jew cash grab, but why are people acting like it's the end of the world and Square is evil? lmao.
Enjoy "Temple Run 2" I guess?
Anyone played 10000000?
Anyone played 10000000?
Anyone played 10000000?
It's pretty good but you should play puzzles and dragons instead
Yeah. This kind of things just makes me want to not bother with their future 3DS games and just wait for the cheap iOS version. The wait isn't terribly long.
Scribblenauts iOS also pretty much turfed any chance of me paying $40 for a Scribblenauts game ever again, too.
A certain someone from Microsoft just gave me their old 4s. Quite an upgrade from my old 3GS which was crippled pretty badly by ios 6. What are the SEXIEST games that let me celebrate the finest iPhone (because fuck the 5 with its shit dock connector)

Sid Meiers Ace Squadron is really good. I really like the UI.
Vice City is on sale for two bucks. Might be worth that to drive around and listen to the edited soundtrack.
There's a mass pwning of newbs going on ATM because of it being a x-platform thing, which is also great.
I'd go for FS, SC will be awesome in maybe a year or so.Why do you think it will improve?
Getting into mp. Some of the UI needs fixing, but it's such a great game.
Sent you an invite I think.
How did you send me an invite?
Because of the plan they have to put all the cool stuff into the PC version!I'd go for FS, SC will be awesome in maybe a year or so.Why do you think it will improve?
I bought Frozen Synapse, but am overwhelmed at my own incompetence so far. It's an interesting game to get used to. You have to predict where your opponent is going to move and intercept them. Usually best done by flanking an enemy unit in two directions at once so they have no cover.
fuck that noise
warhammerquest is out
There's a definite drift towards 'you should buy these characters because of this cool sweet loot you've picked up whilst dungeoneering that can only be used on said characters' also the inventory is seriously cramped space wise, you can't stack potions into one square, and if its based on a board game why can't I see the dice rolls?
The randomness can also seriously stuff a hard cock of death into your face at seemingly any time. And there doesn't really seem to be as much of a strategy bent as in their previous two games, which is fair enough.
Stoney, have you given up on FS? We still have two matches outstanding.
I'm osietra anyone else, add me if you want to funning games.

...shit. Is it F2P?
Drakerider is totally legit. Awesome game so far.
The updated version (adds the ability to switch off random encounters, difficulty balancing, a couple of other small things, in addition to swapping out the original version's pay-per-chapter IAP for a lump sum upfront charge) is half-price until the 4th of July, so it's only eight bucks.

Heads up iOS brehs:
- Infinity Blade 2
- Badlands
- Superbrothers
- Where's my water?
- Tiny Wings
Are free right now.
Been playing a bit of Asphalt 8 on the ipad. It's surprisingly good. I think I tried one of the earlier Asphalt games and thought it was crap. And I generally don't like racing style games on ios except maybe for the real racing series.
But this game is pretty damn fun. I feel like once I got used to the controls I actually ending up having a lot of control which is always a problem in Ios action style games. And the multiplayer is actually pretty damn fun which is another rarity in ios action titles. It's only like 99 cents or something. Performance is a bit meh on the ipad 2 but then mine is also jailbroken all to hell so that probably doesn't help in that aspect.

The Marvel Puzzle Quest game was kind of a bummer. The gameplay itself and UI is soild and an improvement over the other PQ's. But the F2P trappings really bring it down.
I'll probably enjoy it more if I just limit myself to one hour a day.

Plants vs Zombies 2 has been updated with new content and a balanced economy.
The latest update adds new levels, enemies, abilities and a linear map, the latter of which makes game progression quicker and easier.
The update unlocks previously inaccessible levels, eliminating the need to grind or purchase keys with cash.
Pińata Parties, which take place on bite-size levels, will be held on Mondays and Thursdays, giving users the opportunity to win prizes.
Elsewhere, a new turbo button speeds up planting and zombie movement, while Gargantuars from the original game also make a return.

i'm going to file it under "pretentious spelling" and audibly curse mongrel americans. no commonwealth member would pronounce 'republique' 'republick', i guarantee it. english has lots of inconsistencies in its phonics, but -ique is ALWAYS pronounced 'eek'.
Clique, communique
Those are pronounced 'eek', with the latter being 'eek-ay' due to an accent people are too lazy to write. They're not pronounced 'ick', unless you're a pigdog American.
Wait, clique is pronounced "eek" in Canadia?
Puzzles and Dragons - Pretty good game. I liked it a good deal and my gf got insanely addicted to it on her phone during the trip (she'd always be playing it), but at one point I stepped back after a few days and realized that everything was a grind towards a grind towards a grind and what was the point? And that was when I walked away from P&D. I think maybe I'd like the 3DS one more; maybe; need to read up on it.
◆Play from Start to Finish for Free◆

I bought that Adventure Time Card Wars game a week ago. It's okay, kind of a basic CCG that relies more on brute forcing wins instead of strategy. It's a little grindy, but has all the fan service one could want.
I'm just a sucker for it because it was one of my favorite episodes.
The wierd thing about it is that it has common F2P trappings (timers, in-game currency) but still a 3.99 price tag. So far, none of that F2P shit has popped up as an issue.
Can you floop the pig? Gonna dl.

Speaking of does anyone have recommendations for recent iOS games? Any genre will do!
Horn is free now.
It's...ok. Very pretty, brain dead puzzles, infinity blade style combat. Very much wants to be ico/Zelda, comes nowhere near either.
Knights of Pen and Paper just went free, too. It's good.
Trials isn't so bad. The only 'paywall' you hit is the timer, but for the first few hours you are leveling up (and recharging your timer in the process) just in time.
But it's one of those games where after about 5 or 6 races you're ready to move onto something different.
So, I think all the wailing about the F2P aspects are overblown. But it is kind of wierd to be 'grinding' for parts in a game like this.

My cousin stole my iPod 4. I've been iOS-less for like three years.

Nah, it works on iPod 4. But don't worry Himu, they're planning to port WS to *everything*.
That nicca prolly sold it. I swear when I get my own place and they visit we will have a very uncomfortable convo about touching my shit. Had a cousin steal games and another cousin steal an iPod. Fucking wannabe thug ass negroes will never disrespect my living area like that ever again.
The one that stole my games? He came to stay with me saying he wanted to apply for a job. I drove that kid around and he applied to jobs and shit. And then the next week I notice I have games missing. You want a job, huh? Yeah right.
What should I do about this situation if they come again without being a bitch?

how does the controller i linked before not allow console-style controls on the ipad? it's a friggin tiny ps2 controller.
:what
how is it any different between a phone and a tablet? it's a stand-alone bluetooth controller. and while it feels kind of cheap, i use mine pretty regularly and i've had no problems with it breaking, so unless you're one of those tards that smashes your controller against the wall when you lose or something, i think you'll be okay.

Speaking of PAD clones, I tried Pac-Man Monsters. I really like the art on the pac men and ghosts but unfortunately the rest of the monsters look like they could have come out of any of these puzzling games.
I'd rather play Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures

Played that Sega Coin game for awhile over the weekend. Very confusing at first (although I thought the tutorial quiz was a nice touch), but once you get to the second set missions, it all becomes instantly familiar.
After playing PAD for 100's of hours, it's hard not to feel some de ja vu with these games when you follow such a similar trek.
Puzzle & Dragons, dum dum
I came in here to post about Dragon Coin, wasn't aware others were playing. It's fun, if cloney. The UI is masterclass.

:drudge The House of the Dead: Overkill - The Lost Reels is FUCKING LEGIT :drudge
I know I'm a year late to this party but goddamn, this is amazingly fun. Somehow manages to be both faithful to what was a rail shooter but at the same time being fantastically touch-optimized.
Only bad parts are: no funny cutscenes or voice acting, instead there's just stilted comic panels. Also only three areas (split up into various "levels" of about 5 minutes each.)
Still, really fucking fun. Graphics are even better and less janky than the Wii version, too :dead

Can't see DC dropping 1600 yen for an old version of MH he already owns just to give you guys impressions. His crew definitely won't be playing it with him and his mobile tastes are more towards quick time wasters.
TouchArcade forums have a thread with lots of impressions if you want to read some.
If I have to choose between sucking Oscar's dick or getting fucked in the ass by him, I'll choose sucking his dick every time.
(Metaphorically speaking.)
I'm likely to end up writing the review for it, and my review is probably going to be something like "how do I hunted monster".

if it's anything like MH3, i'd suggest you to try all the weapons and then stick with the spear
I've tried two MH games before but couldn't get into them. I think I used the spear in my Tri attempt.
Sad I am the best guy for the job at the site.
"Gimmick weapon" that can do the most DPS, sure...
IMO that's long sword. High reach, good combo potential, fun move set.

Actually, given how well this did in Japan, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the revival of the "Monster Hunter Portable" name. Do 3rd next, or a 3rd G, then bam, MHP 4th.

World 3 of Bubble Witch Saga 2. :o
I'm on level 53 or so which is 10 tiers of animal-saving bullshit ...
I know these levels are designed to be pay-to-win but HOLY CHRIST the randomization of bubbles x hidden bubbles = how the fuck are you supposed to do this in the set number of moves*
*you're not, you're supposed to pay
yeah i was stuck on that for a bit. in addition to getting a lucky assortment of bubbles, what helped me was trying to take out the area behind the animals so that I could lob a shot up to the next tier and try to take out a couple in one go. but it only works if the bubbles are set up that way.
I'm not even willing to add to King's active user count, at this point. They've shat the PR bed, as far as I'm concerned.
Not that they're not shitheads for starting the whole legal crap, but in the interests of fairness, it should be known they amicably resolved all of the weird edge cases and all of them can still use their names. Even that Candy Smasher guy.You mean the Candy Smasher guy who made the match-three candy-themed game before King.com did, and against whom they bought an even earlier version of someone else's game, just to position themselves for a better angle against which to legally stab at him?
Phoenix HD is another good route if you don't want to pay for a better shmup.
Did they have to backpedal, though? Yeah, they got a lot of bad PR from enthusiast gaming media, but enthusiast gamers make up what, about 0.05% of their customer base?
I mean, EA won worst company in America three years in a row and it doesn't seem to have hurt them any.
I swear, S-E, if you go through all of E3 without mentioning Dragon Quest and instead just announce localization of MORE **** Final Fantasy games... prepare to lose a customer.
I've been playing Dragon Coins for three weeks now and just realized that you don't have to level up your monsters to max to evolve them. They can be evolved at any time.
so much gold/exp wasted .. lol
I pasted that from the link Demi posted. I never censor my words and like all the ff games they've announced so far.

I mean, EA won worst company in America three years in a row and it doesn't seem to have hurt them any.
Did they have to backpedal for their customers? Nope, like you said a majority of them don't even know this is a thing and probably don't give a shit (also enthusiast gamers opinions are irrelevant). They had to backpedal because of the enormous hatred the development community, especially in San Francisco, was starting to heap on them. It hit a fever pitch in early 2014 and at GDC where the inclusion of King.com lanyards basically made it a hot topic at a lot of different gatherings since everyone had them and it was "cool" to hate King.com.
When you start to build up that kind of rapid escalation of distrust and dislike you start finding it difficult to smoothly engage in business and attract star talent. More importantly however King.com was about to complete their IPO in March so it was imperative to make sure they kept the negativity at bay. Like with anything in this industry, the root cause is always money.
you actualy need to bring them to level 20 to evolve them, honestly i'm starting to get bored, the normal missions barely have any varieties and sega has been doing an awfull job introducing timed content, not to mention they introduce at least 2 new bugs into the game every week
New Angry Birds RPG is out
New Angry Birds RPG is out
i played it for a bit, combat is turn based with no string attached, there is no exploration at all it's just non-stop battles, each bird represent a series of classes so for example the red bird is ALL the warrior jobs, the yellow bird is ALL the wizard jobs and so on... each class has an attack and a buff so for example the red bird get to punch enemies in the face (which also attract their aggro) and cast on barrier but he also has a class that trade the attract aggro attack for an attack debuff, while the yellow bird get AoE attack (or alternatively he can trade that for attack that remove buff from the enemies) as you trade blow you charge an hot pepper that when it's full you can feed to any bird for a special attack which varies depending on the bird
after battle you get ranked depending on how much damage you have taken (and something else, i have no idea... damage inflicted? number of turn taken?) and get rewarded with loot, you can use the loot to craft heal potion or new equipment for the birds
so far it's kind of eh... it's nice playing a cartoony rpg but at the same time it has felt very simple and while i appreciate the fact that i have been able to proceed without being stopped by any artificial barrier or heck even a stamina bar, the game will occasionaly remind you that it's a mobile F2P game by asking you to link yourself to everything and pointing out how cool IAP are (mostly notable example was when the game suddenly decided it would make the battle easier if i watched an ads... which was for another angry bird game)
as far as currency goes, there are 2, the real money currency is used to buy the sort of "I WANNA DESTROY THE GAME RIGHT NOW!" consumables (including an item that auto-win the battle for you) while the other currency is used to buy new jobs and recipe for item to craft... the problem is while so far i had all the money required to buy everything, i have no idea how i'm supposed to get more because monster don't drop it! i think it might be handled to you as a daily reward but i'm not 100% sure
Trying to enjoy final fantasy dimensions. It's hard for me too because it has Final Fantasy in the title but it feels and looks like a fan made game. I just can't take it seriously. I know that's shallow, but it looks like total shit and I canNOT get over it.
I do wonder how much of that is our generation's nostalgia for chunky pixels, though. Which would a kid say looked better? When he grows up, will he have our affection for low-res sprites?
Same with mine. My nephew told me he wished Terraria had "good graphics".I do wonder how much of that is our generation's nostalgia for chunky pixels, though. Which would a kid say looked better? When he grows up, will he have our affection for low-res sprites?
I can tell you right now, my nieces and nephews think retro 8-bit style looks awful and don't understand the appeal.

I'm quite satisfied with it, yes. Given the scope, budget, and the display on the target platforms, I think it looks fine. You bring up Child of Light, but that game's staff was about three times the size of FFD's and the budget likely an even higher multiple. The art in FFD was done by two people. In full. They didn't have the time, manpower, or money to detail sprites on the level of CoL.
As for Theatrhythm, it has a cute look, but the number of unique assets required there pales in comparison to what FFD called for. Half of the characters were already created for previous projects, on top of that.
I dunno, I think you're not appreciating or understanding both the circumstances of the game's development *and* the intended audience's preferences. And I'm not sure what you'd have had Square do. They put a legend on the character art duties. Good sprite artists aren't exactly falling out of the sky in Japan these days, especially ones that do super-deformed stuff at HD resolutions.

I think I finally hit a paywall in Top Eleven footy manager after 3 months of play.
Almost every game now I get 1/2/3 injuries and the injury times are getting longer. They really want me to fork over money for treatment packs.
First 3 seasons I got maybe an injury 1 every 10 games.
Since this this season started I have constantly had 3/6 people out of my 20 man squad with injuries and red cards.
I'm done.

Did they make tweaks to the game that made it that way or was it just always that way?
I've seen that happen with some F2P games I get engrossed in. They bait you in with easy rewards and no paywalls, then slowly pull in the paywalls as the userbase matures. Users are reluctant to quit in digust because they already have the feeling of 'sunk cost' of all the time and effort they put into the account.
I don't know if I'd like that kind of press. Misspelling the main title of your game is hilariously inept and screams lack of quality control.
I mean if the game sales improve as a result then hell yeah. Keep on being a fucking distinguished mentally-challenged fellow Sqarue Inex. I'll gladly play Dagron Quest V and Dargon Worriars VI next! :rock

Interesting; Clash-of-Clans with a Star Wars re-skin?I gave it a try today and that's exactly what it is. It's almost an identical clone with a Star Wars theme. It's also incredibly boring to play unless you buy crystals to avoid all the waiting times.
Anything with timers is just lame game design that I'm not going to play.
Yep, same here. It seems like a neat game idea and if it was $10 to get the complete game without timers or IAP then I might have bought it.Yeah, IRL currency to avoid waiting is a pet peeve. "Energy" so that players can only make a preset number of moves is also annoying AND outdated. I've been enjoying Plundernauts, but it has like five moves, and then says "Come back later or pay money now!" Pfeh.
Wait, so Detective Arne lost all that blood from her HEAD, and went over to that spot to write the bomb case number with her head bleeding like a Gusher candy, and her body ended up allllll the way across the room from where she wrote the number?

This game. :comeon
Shu Takumi is back to being hands-on with the series in the Meiji-era game for the first time since AA3. He was only a supervisor on AA4, and had nothing to do with AAI/AAI2/AA5. So I think there's *some* hope there, certainly more hope of him being allowed to do another Ghost Trick after its meteoric failure.
Ascension is seriously good shit. Only card game I keep on my phone.
I think they're all worth playing if you're interested in the stories. And if you're going to play them all, you might as well start with the first game, because then it's straight uphill from there.
Glad you read my article, Himu. I can't believe I'm writing a giant RPG-focused weekly column and you are literally the only one of my RPG-loving online best buds who has even looked at it.

Goddamn. So much character development and drama just in the SECOND case in AA1. Phoenix defending himself :bow I haven't played this since 2006 and it still has that "more more chapter" vibe. :whew
What are some good ios visual novels that aren't AA HD?
So, if I bought Chaos Rings 2 for iPad a while back, there's no getting it for free on my iPhone is there?
Also, I'm guessing I should just reroll the first 2 on Terra Battle until I get better than B?
Not really... buy a Square Enix game instead

It's a shameless FFX clone, so if you're ok with that, go for it.
Trials Frontier is a great game, but towards a certain point the 'parts grind' becomes ridiculous. Especially having to fuse 30 nuts to make one meganut. Also, the acquisition of those parts are tied to a spinning wheel. No, that part is still bullshit. The roulette wheel mechanic is still in place, and just as insidious. You can get rank two and rank three items from races deeper into the progression of tracks, but they're hard to come by.
Unless they loosened it up a bit .. I haven't played it since early summer.

Capcom has stated that it has no plans to make Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and its Japanese counterpart Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G compatible with the recently released iOS 9 (thanks NeoGAF).:doge
“This application is not compatible with iOS 9 (including the Beta). There are currently no plans to update this application in the future. Please keep this in mind when updating your OS,” reads Freedom Unite’s App Store page.
This means that anyone updating their iOS device with iOS 9, which was released on September 16th, won’t be able to play the game any longer unless they revert to older versions of iOS.
That’s despite them having paid $14.99 for Freedom Unite. And it’s also worth noting that Freedom Unite isn’t even that old – it came out in July 2014.

Downwell is pretty dope. Plays well on the phone, not so much on an iPad.
Another Warhammer 40k game, Deathwatch, is pretty great. It’s a turn-based strategy shooter that uses the Unreal 4 engine and doesn’t require micro transactions to be successful. In fact, since there is no way to buy experience points, money by itself actually won’t make you successful. It’s really a great game.
Clash of Clans' dudes' new game, Clash Royale, is a neat take on real-time Tower Defense and card collection.
I know I'm going to get bored of it by the mid-tier, but right now I'm having fun. It has an integrated training mode as well as a replay of recent battles, both of which help to gain familiarity without committing resources.

Yeah I've been hearing about this game and decided to try it this evening. I dig it.
I never tried Clash of Clans even though I wanted to because I couldn't be assed to go through the long tutuorial all those style games have at the beginning. I like that this game is much simpler on that front. It's very easy to pick up without feeling like I'm in tutorial hell.

I played the first 6 adventures; duper-super-boring so far. :-\
Dropped Unchained, just can't do these games.
Yeah mobile games like that aren't really meant to be cat assed like you're used to, gents :lol
That said, it's probably trash and I won't play it
from what i played it seems like an ultra simplified chain of memories
KOTOR had a price drop to 2.99

Does it play well without a controller?
Romancing Saga 2 coming in English for iOS/AndroidWas the SaGa series good enough to dig into the SNES and PSX installments at this point? Only ever played SaGa Frontier in the '90s, which I liked at the time. I love old RPGs but I'm getting to the point where I'm too old and impatient for the endless grinding and random encounters that were both so prevalent during that era.

SaGa seems to be extremely divisive. Either you love it (me) or don't (a lot of other people).
It does subvert a lot of JRPG tropes though. It has a lot of typically western aspects to it: non-linearity, open worlds. The earlier games have random encounters, but Romancing and Frontier don't. They also tend to build on the experience system established in Final Fantasy 2, so if you hated that then you'll probably not like how SaGa's progression works.
So I didn't know that Big Huge Games had made Dominations, so I had been avoiding it. Its art style is utter f2p dog shit, but it is more like Age of Empires than the Age of Empires Castle Siege f2p game is.

I played a bunch of it when it first came out. Really enjoyed it for a while. Of course, the F2P stuff wore on me and I decided after a few months to uninstall before wasting any more time on it.

Just use a controller via bluetoothIs this bork? :lol Yeah, that's always the ideal way to play, but I'm not carrying around a Bluetooth controller in my pocket just to play a game for a 5-10 minute sesh.
