Also on the larger scale, I think recent Trump and Brexit have taken the wind out of a lot of shithead's sails and, as such, they are less engaged in the culture war.

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2019/10/bret-stephens-backs-out-of-bedbug-debate.html
Quote
New York Times opinion columnist and man who thinks it’s deeply important to engage in open debate Bret Stephens has backed out of an upcoming scheduled event at George Washington University, where he was set to discuss civil discourse online with professor Dave Karpf. The discussion would have put a bow on a highly public back-and-forth Stephens instigated a month and a half ago, but at the last minute, Stephens insisted that the event be closed to the public. When Karpf disagreed, Stephens pulled out entirely.
Quote
At the time, Stephens told the Washington Post, “I’ve accepted [the invitation], and we will find a date in the fall.” Stephens and Karpf did indeed find a date in the fall, agreeing in September that the event would take place at GWU on Oct. 28. But with those plans in place, a mere two days before invitations were supposed to go out, Karpf says, Stephens suddenly raised a number of concerns with the event’s organizers.

Karpf said that he was only able to speak with me about Stephens’ main concern and the apparent deal-breaker. “The thing that I can share is that he had decided that he was only willing to come if we made it not a public event,” Karpf told me over the phone. “Students could be in the room, but he didn’t want to allow this story to continue anymore. They talked with him, and what it came down to was, the only way he’d do the event is if the public wasn’t allowed to see it. I said, ‘I think that’s really unreasonable.’ They came back to him and said, ‘Karpf thinks that’s unreasonable.’ And he said, ‘OK, we’re not doing it.’ ”
Quote
When I reached out to Stephens for comment, he pointed me to the director of GWU’s School of Media and Public Affairs, writing over email, “Frank Sesno, copied on this note, can provide you with accurate information.” Sesno then followed up, writing, “We were unable to come to terms on the format of the event, which is why it is not taking place. There was a series of conversations and we never publicly announced the event because, as I say, we could not come to mutually acceptable terms on the format.”

I think one reason for a bit of a downturn in the Wank Dad industry is that much like the "left" needed their narrative for Trump winning, so did these guys, one that proved they were ascendant. And now there's a semi-realization that Trump doesn't actually care about them, and neither are they ascendant when Sargon goes and gets assblasted away and nearly destroys a political party by himself. And these guys are no longer getting the media crossover pieces going "WHY IS JORDAN PETERSON SO POPULAR?!?" because well, he's not anymore, especially after the Zizek shit.

I'll stick something on my todo pile of things I can get away with calling "work-related" and take a look at some of the sites like Quilette or whatever along with the semi-close orbiters to see if they've migrated onto other things or if it's just a rebuilding period where they're accumulating draft picks.

One thing, they might just be distracted as the election is heating up, doing lots of BIG OWNAGES of the Democratic candidates or similar. Maybe AOC, etc.

It's not a deep thought or analysis but the whole IDW thing is a bit artificial and seemingly excludes some of Fox News pundits (Carlson, O'Reilly come to mind). Are they really less of "polemists" (polemicists ?) or "editorialists" than their YouTube imitators ? They're pushing exactly the same sort of talking points.

I say that because in France the most prominent equivalent figures is a bald, dumb, mysoginist "philosopher" (checks out) but more importantly an editorialist which got around through quite a collection of gigs for national newspapers, radios and TV shows and still has a pull in TV and politics (a guest to make a speech at the conservative party convention two weeks ago).

I think the term "intellectual dark web" applies to ostensibly academic types (although suspiciously not peer reviewed) that would belong on Quillette. And this thread in general extends that out to right anti-identarians with a propensity to self-own over twitter. It's probably biased toward New Media, but I think Tucker Carlson is sort of unique in the Old Media space anyway.

Peterson is the only one with some actual "academic credentials" though, isn't it ? Which probably explains why he floated to the top of the pile.

Madrun spoke of New Atheists but really Dawkins and Hitchens (unless I'm confused at what label they were attached to) are the only two that seemed to have any wide recognition.

Wank Dad is an oversaturated by mediocrity market, for sure.

After devolving into a fit of muttering about how cool he was in 2016, Peterson began shakin uncontrollably, then broke down crying in front of his interviewer.

As the interviewer tried consoling Peterson about how great his accomplishments were, Peterson began crying even harder, then began describing how important of a person he is because he reminded a generation of buckos to regularly rinse their phalluses with water and soap.

@ 14:45 he begins breaking down as he describes the relentless bullying he receives on twitter, saying he can't even sign into his account any longer.

Between 24:00 and 27:00 his eyes overflow with tears and he begins sobbing as he explains
