so should i even bother watching season one of parks and rec?

Only if you potentially want context for some of the characters.

I also think its a bit interesting to see a show go from average to good.

Parks and Rec:

Town person: You should go back where you came from!

Leslie: I am back where I came from!

Town person: That sentence was confusing! You may as well be from China!

in a happy coincidence Boardwalk Empire S02E03 was one of the best of the show. well timed to coincide with the end of Breaking Bad. or quite possibly i was more ready to invest given that i have nothing else on my plate.

Eric P, i'm curious about Homeland. thoughts? i hate claire danes (wouldn't even deign to capitalise her name) but for some reason the show seems to have an air of credibility at this stage.

i'm not going to claim my hate (distaste may be more appropriate) for her is merited. i think it stems from when her cry at the end of Romeo & Juliet. i'm not seeing anything in her filmography that i'd expect to change my mind though, which appearance of herst led to your high esteem for her ability?

Finished The Sopranos. S6 was good, but in many ways just felt like a solid season than something amazing, whereas I thought S1 and S3 were great. Very solid show but I can't honestly say it's better than shows that surpassed "solid" and reached Olympian heights, like The Wire (S3, S4) or The Shield (S5, S7). That being said, it's definitely one of the most solid, consistently good show I've seen.

on S6..
spoiler (click to show/hide)
-I thought the first ep was amazing and set up an interesting dynamic with Tony injured and his crew on the brink of a power struggle. Unfortunately that plot wasn't nearly as well done as I had thought it would be
-Chris :(
-I thought it was pretty dumb how after all the Godfather references to "sleeping on mattresses" during gang wars, Tony's crew stayed out in the open for so long. It was just enough time for Bobby to get whacked, and Sil to get seriously injured. Very surprised they weren't more careful
-As with other seasons, I didn't like how multiple plots would be dropped only to re-appear many episodes later
-Maybe because it was the last season, but it really put into perspective just how sociopathic these guys were/are.
-I still remember being spoiled on the ending almost immediately after it aired while watching NBA on TNT and the news. Having actually seen the finale now...eh, I thought it was good. A solid episode, not particularly great and certainly not bad - pretty much like the rest of the season. I also thought it seemed obvious that Tony dies at the end.
-I feel like re-watching the show right away, but I'll wait. Very good series and I'm glad I didn't speed through it.

I know the others answered and I'm not disagreeing really, but I say yes. The whole "pit" storyline is what sets the series off even though it's terrible and even though the first season has no clue what it wants to do.

And it makes the second and third season become that much better. You can tell when they figure it all out because they basically ditch everything else instantly.

I liken it to The Office which also had a weak and short first season before figuring itself out during the second season and peaking during the third. But The Office trapped itself and spiraled downward fast. It probably peaked with Casino Night.

Parks has just gotten better and better. Second episode this season was all omg.

Wow, the Louie s2 finale summed up the show perfectly: hilarious and depressing at the same time. The first half was a riot; the cuckold bit was almost exactly like a story my friend told me lol. The second half...  :'(

Party Down was great, as good as any of the other big American comedies at its best. Thanks to whoever was talking about it in here.

That last shot of Gus in the Breaking Bad finale was :rofl SO STUPID :rofl Still some of the best TV I've watched since I saw the last couple seasons of The Shield.

I tried the pilot of Justified but I doubt I'll watch any more. Olyphant is a terrible actor and I don't care what anyone says.

Sorta hooked on Homeland already. It's like 24 for adults

You're not wrong. I really like Olyphant in Deadwood, but there are times in Justified where I think he was just well-directed and part of an ensemble cast which supported his role well. In Justified, only the guy playing Rayland's dad is a worse actor than Olyphant. Hey, it's TV-genetics!

I'm about to finish it and its the most intensity I've felt from the show. I've heard big things about Season 7 and I can see how that's the case... the current lead up seems to be colossal.

I agree with pretty much everything here, although I love Olyphant. I don't think he's a great actor, but the characters he plays are just too cool. Homeland is already my favorite show on air now that Breaking Bad (and Louie and Archer) are on hiatus.

how bad is it now?  How bad was last season?  Even though Michael Scott annoyed the living shit out of me, it just seems like further signs that the show is falling apart (and has been for quite some time).

I don't know if I've mentioned Moffat's Sherlock here before, but it's great. Similar to the reworking of Jekyll and Hyde, Sherlock takes place in the modern era, and has been updated accordingly. The acting is solid, complimented by dialog I have rewound just to enjoy. I have only watched the unaired pilot, and its reworked version for the broadcast first episode (the broadcast version is superior in most ways). I'm looking forward to the next two. (I think there are only three episodes...)

Agreed. Some great, tense moments but there were some big flaws; still I found the episode to be good. I hated all the monologues, especially the last one which seemed so forced; why give the same character two monologues, at the beginning and end of an episode.

Given the early focus on the little boy, I thought he was going to be the main plot/get lost. Instead they spent half the ep trying to find some little girl sigh.

I love Dale, he reminds me of a kinder John Locke. But having binoculars, standing on a fucking RV, and not seeing a horde of zombies walking your way is just dumb. Bad writing

The hiding under the car scene would have been intense if it wasn't so full of horror Clichés, and couldn't rick just go back with the little girl to the highway and have the red neck kill the two zombies when they showed up? instead his big plan was leave the girl alone in a pond and then run as far away from her as possible and trow rocks at the zombies smh.

I really liked both S3 and S5 featuring Dexter having someone who can witness both sides of him and share in his experience. I thought it pushes his character more than a nemesis chase and I feel it toys with the audience's experience of watching Dexter. It also works against Ghost Harry, which is easily one of my least favorite bits of Dexter. I also like the pushing of the vigilante angle for a serial killer.

Plus, I generally like Julia Stiles in the stuff I've seen her in.
