That's a really nice view.  When I went to venice a few years back the hotel was near san marco, so the view was of another building

yeah, I went with family and by the end of the first day I wasn't liking the location of the hotel.  In general a family trip where my dad does the planning involves overpriced (but old and crummy) hotels in locations like that.   but on the bright side, every morning you can see hundreds of people crowding the area trying to feed birds!   

I shouldn't complain.  Venice was nice.

always have trouble keeping my eyes open in the sun

Saw pretty much all the big stuff. Went running 3 or 4 times, twice around the Eifel tower for about an hour (champ de mars to those stairs at the other end). Then one big tour with my brother, of 1h20m, from his place to Notre Damme, Louvre, Concorde and then back. Lots of picnics at the Eifel tower, lots of beer and wine, cheese...Great fun. Helped my brother move into his new place too.

Paris is amazing, such a spacious and epic city. Lots of pretty women. Quite a downer coming back to provincial Belgium. Only cost me 50euros for the train tickets, free accommodation (slept under a towel though), so only spent money on metro, food and booze and entrance to the Eifel tower. So all in all it was rather cheap for 9 days in Paris.
