Seeing the Heavenly Sword thread on gaf reminded me of the old sixaxis controllers, and more about how bad the PS3 was at one time (jokes aside).
I didn't get my dual shock 3 until Uncharted; I actually imported the controller and it arrived the same day as Uncharted, a game that supported rumble. Before this I had to use the sixaxis controller that would randomly drop the signal for 10 seconds. It was amazing to play God of War 2 and have Kratos run off a platform because the controller was stuck. It wasn't even an isolated issue! it seemed like everyone's sixaxis controller had the same problems.
Then there were things like no in-game xmb, so you'd get a a pop up that said you got a new message and you couldn't check it without closing the game! I remember playing Ratchet Future 1, quitting out just to see what the message was, and it was from a friend saying Mario Galaxy was so much better (he got it early)
Or not being able to do background downloading. The Gran Turismo HD Concept or w/e it was called took damn near four hours to download and it was stuck on the download screen. This was back when download speeds on the PS3 were incredibly slow (quite fast now).
360 was also pretty shitty when it was first released. Ignoring the big change from old blades to newer xbox dash, I remember an update that made the blades 2 times faster. I don't think you could do background downloading when the 360 first launched too.
firmware upgrades
even the wii got a clock and sd card support
