Well said. Credit scores are not a measure of integrity or human worth but of how much profit you can generate for the lending companies (this is one of the reasons you get penalized for having your credit pulled too often -- they don't want you shopping around for loans).
What if you have an emergency and not enough cash in your emergency fund to weather it? What if you want to buy a house?
Manual underwriting for both. You can get manual underwriting for loans and mortgages. You just have to be able to provide documentation that you're fiscally stable and sound. Not every underwriter does this, but you can definitely find ones who will.

As an European resident this concept is totally alien to me. You are only supposed to ask for money when buying a car or a house.
