I disagree. Early 90's SNL was the pinnacle and I grew up on the Eddie Murphy years. Late 90's was also better than the 80's cast.

I try to go back and watch it and there are only certain skits that are still funny and it's usually nostalgia for me.  I find most of it pretty unwatchable.  Celebrity Jeopardy I think is one of the few that I still find legitimately funny.

Downton S3 finale

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Great finale, very solid season. I felt the Thomas stuff was wrapped up too nicely though, especially for the time period; Robert is so conservative on everything it seems odd he'd be fine with a gay guy and its impact on Downton, regardless of how many guys tried to kiss him at Eton. My favorite part of it all was Bates coming to Thomas' aide. I could definitely buy one person doing that, and Bates was the perfect choice. But Robert and Ms Hughes was too much.

I really liked seeing Branston finally ease his way into the family. It wasn't rushed or done ham fisted. In fact his reasoning for defending Matthew was quite collectivist, economically, and thus in line with his political views. It's also the argument I had been thinking since the farm plan was first brought up. Form like Voltron and make a lot of money, bros.

I didn't like the niece stuff, but it wasn't nauseating. On the other hand, Ethel's story...bleh. How come every sidestory has to have an asterisk in this show? It was so obvious the editor was married - but wait! He's married to a crazy woman, and thus his marriage doesn't count! I can already imagine the scandal this will cause next season. Perhaps the editor's wife will be cured of her madness for shits and giggles...

Overall I really liked this season. Not better than S1 but a lot better than S2. Plus everything was so well tied together that show show should have room for changes.

Downton was a good finale overall but the way they settled the Thomas thing was too convenient. It's kinda odd that Thomas will now have  Bates as his closest friend and Ms. O'Brien as his enemy.

Homeland and Boardwalk Empire pulled out all the stops on killing minor characters for big plot reasons. It's like a season's worth of Sons of Anarchy's balls put in a single scene.

This season of Treme continues to be charming as shit. I do hate how every Mardi Gras of every season, that nothing big happens. It's just a montage of Indians, marching bands, forgettable romantic/family moments. Davis is a fucking idiot though.

after watching it i thought that the new Boardwalk Empire could've been my favourite episode of anything. this show just keeps getting better and better. i love how tight the scripts are; that hour felt like two but i didn't feel like they were rushing anything. so glad to have Esther Randolph back in rotation, Nucky had a great (fight) scene after being a sap the whole season so far (and the end of the episode basically guarantees he won't go back there again), i even thought Margaret's storylines were pretty well handled and it's good to see Van Mueller get some sort of release (albeit an extremely unhealthy one). i wonder what they'll do with him now that he's completely broken bad. is he gonna fuck things up from the inside? i loved Nucky reusing "interloper", was very Soprano'sesque. episodes 11&12 are probably gonna be pretty amazing huh? (11 is Allen Coulter/Howard Korder, 12 is Tim Van Patten/Terrence Winter).

Homeland is so silly. i love it. seems like the writers are writing themselves into a corner every week and aren't too concerned with the overall story arc, like they're playing all their cards every episode but i will wait and see where it goes to decide if i'm right/how stupid that is. i do like surprises. also, Claire Danes may've beaten her own record for worst cry ever on film in the newest episode (#hateclairedanes). i wonder how she would act if you taped her arms to her sides? VP's son hit & run subplot is inducing heavy eye rolls over here.

i'm also enjoying Treme. it's so quiet and subdued i would be hard pressed to say what i enjoy week to week but they've built such a great world and strong characters by now that it's satisfying watching them just eke out their existence. Davis is kind of a dick but i feel like i've known people like that in real life. is he going to embark on a new musical project every season just to be ejected at the last minute? i think the mardigras scenes are useful to help reinforce what all the characters have been through since the last year's. like Toni Burnett and daughter have done so much healing since last year (lol), Albert & Delmond have really nurtured their relationship (i know they had the album out last year but did Delmond march with the indians? i think this was his first year), Antoine's gotten so far with the band, Davis and Annie (who had a very charming/romantic mardigras last year) are now apart due to her career... etc.
is Antoine going to start playing Modern now? he should get some H from Amsterdam (i don't remember his name though he's almost redeemed in my eyes now after a horrible first two seasons) to make his forays totally authentic.
thx

Back in the nihonz, so I'm catching up on Fringe with my wife. We're halfway through s4, looking forward to seeing how they wrap up the series with s5.

Kinda feeling silly that I started a few series with Amazon Prime Instant Video in the USA, and now don't have a way to finish them, at least for free...

It almost feels like a spin-off, alternate-alternate universes and all that.

But it's an interesting dystopic future and the new theme song sequence is awesome so I can just turn off my brain and assume it's as good as the last seasons.

At least we know that this wont be run into the ground like all their other shows. Also AHSA is not as enjoyable as the first season, due to the fact that novelty has a limited best before date.

seconded.  I am enjoying this season of AHS as much as the last one.  Last one was a traditional gothic turned to 11, this one is more concerned, i think, with human interactions and is showing a wider swath of genre tropes.

I watched it avidly in the early seasons, but the way Peters plumpness oscillated was really distracting.

AHSA is basically Desperate Housewives, but done in a different genre. And yes, everyone is right. It's crackling.

Finished s4 and started s5 of Fringe. S4's ending was good, though the Deus cortEXiphan Machina was, for some odd reason, too much for me.

S5's opening caught me off guard; I was NOT expecting them to go back to that timeline.
