Assuming that's after you smash I'll say it's easier to drop the veneer of acting like a civilised human being in front of a hookup than it is someone you're trying to cuff

In English what do you put in the word "dating"?
Generally the characters 'd', 'a', 't', 'i', 'n', and 'g' but it depends on how fast I'm typing.

It's not a relationship until you have tampons in your house.

Downloaded Tinder and it took me a whole 5 minutes into swiping to realize this isn't what I want. Doesn't help that half of the dudes I saw are people I know from school. And they're all really into hiking and other weird shit. :doge

Hiking is more-or-less tinder speak for "I'm not a fat fuck who just sits on my ass all day and does nothing".

Or at least it's that way in the US.

When I first tried online dating, I said I like hiking because I did do it nearly every day since I lived near a redwood forest. Then I figured only chubs say that they like hiking for the reason atra said. And I don't mean healthy/thick/curvy (as latin/black/white people say) but the bad kind of chubs that is the result of self-loathing and pigging out in a super liberal or european area where they try to break out of the cycle of angst by the default mode of trying to date again and therefore faking a bit.

Those moments of angst turn into days. Those days blend into one another. Next thing you know they're messaging naive bearded dudes or the girl they had a crush on in high school about how well-rounded (no pun intended) and sophisticated they've become.

I heard meetup is better for actually meeting people with shared interests (and disinterests?).

The first time I scheduled to hang out with my current girlfriend was on a hike! I asked her and another girl to go because they were in my hometown for the summer.

I'll actually have her engagement ring in my hands on Monday and am thinking of proposing while on a hike.  :doge

haha, shit, you may be right!  :lol

Tinder made me this way, I swear!  I never really gave a second thought to height until all this swiping on profiles that demanded "you must be 5'10" or higher to ride"  :lol

Anyhow, Bebpo, I'm actually in a situation right now that seems to be what you're looking for.  I wouldn't call it "NSA" exactly, it's more than that, because we both care about each other a fair bit. I'd say there's "real feelings" there, but our situations are such that something to the next step just isn't practical.

I mean, I *want* a "real", full, all-in relationship, ideally.  But I'm also.....happy?  content?.....with what I currently have going on right now.  I dunno, it's weird.

I don't have any advice on the "how" to find such a situation though.  I just sort of stumbled into it myself.  I think it's a rare thing for someone to want, man or woman, and tough to make sure you're both on the same page about it.

Looks are subjective Cats, but dating as a short guy in the days of tinder/online is def a disadvantage

Bebps, its kinda personal preference right? I was more than happy to give up TV/gaming to go on dates/date. But if your not willing to give that up, than seems like you need to figure out something else to either give up or be better with time management/job situation. It was an easy call for me to reduce/give up vidya for dating time, which I had mostly stopped due to work/research anyway, but you have to do what makes you happy.

Quiet you.

As much as I (apparently) go on about the height thing, there's no point in crying "IT'S NOT FAIR" about the nature of attraction.

We're all dealt a certain hand by nature that we can't change.  What matters is how we play that hand.  And we've firmly established that your expectations go well beyond being just being "picky and selective".

And in case you didn't notice above, even our resident Greek God has his struggles on the woman front.

Or she just blocked and or deleted you, or actually rebooted her account to start over again. Women are pretty shady like that on Tinder and Bumble.

A Bunch of Nonsense
Yeah so basically it's fine for women to have super specific preferences like only wanting someone tall, but dudes can't. Or they're "beyond".

There's nothing wrong with having preferences or standards but if they're at a level that leads to you not meeting anyone then perhaps you should rethink them.

In the meantime, Ruzbeh, just try sparking small conversations with random girls whenever you're out in public. They don't have to end with getting their number.

Start small and build from there.

Height is attractive but I'd got for a guy that's like 5'7 or w/e

I am 5'4 so that helps

A woman that turns that down a man like Boogie because of his height is sad imo, as long as he's still taller than her. I mean, if that's all that turns her off, being his height. But it is what it is.

Everyone have preferences though, whether they admit it or not.

Gonna be honest here.. While I don't consider myself picky there, I still have "preferences". Like if he's much shorter plus looks a lot younger I'm not into it. It'll just look weird. Never been with anyone way taller though so no opinion on that. And someone a little shorter is fun because I get to feel like Xena when wearing high heels. But absolute comfort zone is someone around my height. Perfect for kisses. :-*

I used to think I had deal breakers. Like smoking. But I thought, what if I meet the hottest girl ever, and she's amazing in every way, except she smokes. In that case it wouldn't be a deal breaker, just a big negative.

Although I do think wanting kids might be a deal breaker. So basically I'm gonna start dating at an age when most women will be thinking about having kids and I've never even kissed yet.

I'm so fucked.
