Pretty slick.... probably a lot of features I wouldn't use, like the party chat shit, but still slick.  The game progress feature will eat away at my soul probably.  :existential

That progression meter is terrible. How about you don't fucking spoil the game for me?  :crazy I guess at least that cheat mode that comes with it is not directly in the game like with Nintendo. Still :nope

The design itself is ugly but it is amplified and made obnoxious by the white panels. White electronics are haram, it is known.

Maybe the slim revision in a couple years will be the same size as the OG xbox, the 2013 xbone was slightly smaller than the OG.

Bugsnax is free on Plus(PS5 version only) in November.

Also No Man's Sky is getting a free PS5 update.

PS Plus Collection has some additions:

COD Blops 3 Zombies Chronicles Edition
Crash N Sane Trilogy
FFXV is now Royal edition instead of vanilla.

After playing FFVIIR, been wanting to try FFXV.  Glad I waited.

And my DualSense should be arriving tomorrow.  :hyper

So screw Bork's nitpicking, I'm gonna keep my statement that PS5 launch is looking like Top5 console launches.

Astrobot's playground impressions coming off well, Demon Souls, Sackboy, Miles all looking great. Bugsnax free day 1 in addition to Astrobot, a whole bunch of PS4 games getting patched for free PS5 ultimate editions at launch or in the first month. PS+ Collection of 20+ free games if you don't have some of them (I have basically all of them outside Fallout 4 [who wants without mods?] and COD Blops 3). If you don't have a super up to date PC gaming rig, along with Xbox Series X, best versions of major 3rd party games like Watchdogs/AC Unity, Cyberpunk a month later.

Like there's going to be a lot to play for the first month or two or three and the major titles look like they'll actually be good. Then free Destruction Allstars in Feb...Ratchet & Clank in Spring...

All in all it seems like they're doing a good job at making a strong year 1 which is usually slow and full of nothing for new consoles. Pretty hyped for PS5 launch.

FFXV's fun/good even if it's got problems. It should run pretty nice in boost mode. I remember the PS4 Pro version being basically unlocked framerate.

If you're gonna count those PS4 games as a part of PS5's launch lineup, will you do the same for Series X/S and everything on Gamepass optimized for them?

Sure, why not? I never said the Series X lineup is bad. Just that the PS5 launch lineup is good. Hell if I got a Series S/X it would be mostly for BC.

Plus every generation in recent years has had a lot of cross-gen stuff at launch. Just because you can get a shittier version on existing systems doesn't make the games less of a big deal for new systems.

I'm not accusing you of anything, I'm just asking because I personally feel both have bad launch lineups even though PS5's is obviously better. I've had both XBL Gold (and more recently Gamepass) and PSN+ for years and I have a huge backlog of things that I actually want to play, so I'm happy that for the backwards compatibility. I can't think of that backlog as part of the launch lineups though.

So I know this is a dumb question, especially considering I already have a ps5 preordered, but will ps4 games see an automatic improvement or do they need to specifically be patched? Even though I own a ps4 I never got around to TLOU or TLOU2 so I was hoping those would be improved.

They'll work and if they have an unlocked framerate they should have a higher framerate. I think TLoU2 is locked 30fps so it wouldn't be any different unless they patched them. I feel like TLoU1 remastered was already 60fps?

Like Ghost of Tsushima is locked 30fps but they are patching in an unlocked fps mode so in PS5 boost mode it plays at 60fps.

TLoU2 has been way too silent throughout all the announcements. Pretty sure they're not going to do any improvement patches and instead do a Spider-Man PS5 style "remaster" adding ray-tracing, 60fps, 4k, etc... and then sell it for $50 or something.

Gotcha. I was hoping it was more like series x in how it used the extra power, but it seems like actual dramatic improvements will require a specific patch.

Good thing I have a decent backlog on ps4, but I am excited to try the SM games.

TLOU1 recently got patched and cuts load times down by almost 80% for regular ass HDD base PS4 actually.

I think they've been too silent on Bloodborne.  It's like one of the biggest BC wants, but not a peep or update... But being part of the PS+ Collection, I'd think it will have some sort of improvement.. They'd really shoot themselves in the foot of they don't patch it to unlock the frame rate at least.

Oh yeah, because of the SSD besides framerate improvements in unlocked framerate games, load times should also be heavily reduced in a lot of games w/boost mode.

I'll be shocked if all the the PS+ Collection games won't take advantage of boost mode. Several are already confirmed to be getting patches.

That said if Bloodborne isn't given some kind of special treatment to fix its issues, they royally fucked up.

This is the dick-faced Jim "nobody plays old games" Ryan Sony, so I expect Bloodborne to get the most special of treatments: a $60 remaster (10 dollars off MSRP for PS5 games, what a bargain!).

Isn't the problem with Bloodborne that it's a technical mess and would require From Software to actually sit down and spend time recoding their engine?

Unless Sony pays them the $$ to do it for a patch or a remaster to re-release, I don't see it happening.

A youtuber figured it out using some code from DS3. I'm sure SIE Japan Studio could manage considering they helped with development.

That youtuber took like 5 years of hardcore coding shit. Like that tells me the opposite, that it's why too difficult to accomplish unless they get From Soft to spend a few weeks re-working their old code, which From probably doesn't want to do since they'd rather be working on their current games.

I guess if Japan studio actually was involved in coding maybe they can do it, yeah. We'll see.

I think it'll happen some day, but even though Bloodborne sold well and was critically praised, it still feels like a niche game that Sony doesn't care about because it's too small. Sorta like Gravity Rush but bigger than that one.

I can't predict what will happen, but after some thinking I'm really not feeling good about PS5 and the genre I'm active the most in: fighting games. Fighting game community events, in the before times, are for the most part weekly. You travel to your local event and bring a set up. A lag free monitor, the game, a stick/controller, and a system. You can fit the system in a back pack. It's nice, easy, and relatively pain free unless you're playing a retro game and have to bring a crt. But for the most part, there's little pain in bringing an FGC set up. PS5 complicates this. Not only are set ups limited due to space, PS5 doesn't even have two USB slots and I don't know a single arcade stick on the market that supports USB-C. While you can bring an adapter, how much extra lag will it create? Now you have to bring an adapter and fit room for a big ass system that's probably bigger than the monitor itself on limited space.

See how compact the PS4 is? At a fighting game tournament, you're going to have to have at least two PS5's on a single table. No bueno.

Between travel, an adapter, more room to fit the damn thing this isn't looking good for fighting games.

The only reason PS4 was the system of choice for the fgc last gen was because SFV (the main fgc game) was exclusive to it on consoles.

If Xbox has Street Fighter VI while I can't predict anything, it's going to look a looooot more appealing than dragging a PS5 around.

I'm imagining bringing a PS5 to a local event in New York City, on the goddamn subway. No bueno.

Have you ever been to an FGC event? 360 ran shit. A lot of people say "fuck consoles, their performance is shit" and just play on PC at home, but when it comes to events we still play on ps4.
