I've avoided reality television since its inception, but my sister watches Celebrity Apprentice and Survivor with regularity, so I have glommed on for the ride.
First off, Celebrity Apprentice lost Adam Carrola while I was in Japan -- my interest level dropped 30%. Two weeks ago they lost Penn Jillette. There is no reason to watch this anymore.
Now we're stuck with Arsenio Hall, Lisa Lampanelli, Aubrey O'Day, some New Jersey Housewife, and Clay Aiken. The only likable character is the one for whom I can't remember her name. The weird thing is, the show is only ever to get 3rd-rate clients to work with. Good Sam, Entertainment.com coupon books... it is hard to see why there can't be somewhat better brands associated with the show, considering they are paying for nearly hour-long product placement on a popular show. It is all very half-assed.
I know there is an art to the editing of each program. The editing really determines who is the hero or villain of each piece. That said, jesus, I will take a pass on ever working with any of the remaining talent. Lisa Lampanelli cries and becomes vocally abusive, meanwhile claiming to being the victim if anyone else ever uses those tactics. Clay Aiken is just about the cattiest guy I've ever seen. Aubrey... I don't even think I could get the energy up for a good hate-fuck.
And then on Survivor, I just watched the women wage a six-against-one gender war against Troyzan. And the aged name-stealer "Tarzan" has opted to side with the women, so I'm considering him a gender-traitor. Then again, I'm happier to see tanned, athletic looking women onscreen in skivvies, in HD, so the men can all lose. Maybe Tarzan's smarter than I'm crediting him for.
I feel like my interests have been hijacked.
