Yeah, it was discussed back when he first joined the campaign but Manafort is a globe trotting networker. Back in 2013 French justice looked into him and his participation to the failed 1995 presidential bid by then Prime Minister Balladur (littered with all manners of occult financing). A single short article by France Inter, who calls him a "spin doctor" lists among his contacts :
Ziad Takkiedine, a similar French shadow lobbyist and middle man.
Abdul Rahman el-Assir, same as above, from Lebanon. Manafort is the godfather of his son apparently, and introduced him to Colony Capital. El-Assir claims to have paid Manafort as a consultant on US politics back then and would pass the insights to the Saudi riyal falily.
El-Assir says Manafort introduced him in 1988 to Benazir Bhutto, then Prime Minister of Pakistan.
And I believe there's many others, on top of his US and Ukrainian contacts. I doubt he's the kind of guy who limit himself to one client at a time.
The weirdest part in all of this is that he accepted an official position (and high profile too)in the campaign, really.
