since i started bothering paying attention to sales and trends, i've been wrong on five pieces of hardware. PSP, DS, X360, 3DS, and half-wrong on the Wii and PS3. Called the PSP to crush the DS, thought the 360 was barely going to surpass the original, thought the 3DS would do a lot worse than it is, and while I called the first half of the Wii and PS3's lifespans, I was dead wrong about the last half.

I can't remember what I predicted about the DSi, but I know I was against it in principle because I thought it would muddy the waters for the DS's actual successor.

just wanted another sign since that number was pretty damn horrible (kinda fixed now but still terrible)

and interesting to hear on what messed up your prediction rate.

plus those 3 vita games really are system sellers

It wouldn't be a problem if the WiiU had a cool selling point like the Wii did, but it doesn't. At all.

The only scenario is the one where next gen craps out for everyone, I think. I wonder if Sony has the resources to battle MS properly next gen. MS and Sony could take baby steps and have games be limited to so many machines/accounts. They'll start out with a fairly generous number like 10 then eventually reel that in until retail games are single use.

Gaikai will play into it. It'll be "buy this game new and get a copy on Gaikai, but then it won't work again once it leaves this system, or, opt into not registering it on gaikai and then you can trade it off w/e " thats my theory

Something big like Halo 5 will be the first locked game. People will rage a bit but it'll sell fine anyway, other games will follow for a while and people will rage over those as well and then eventually the whole thing will be abandoned and forgotten as a fucking stupid horrible idea like copy protection on CDs was.
