Charles Barkley: ‘There Were Only Ever 3 Straight NBA Players’
SPORTS NEWS IN BRIEF • Sports • NBA Basketball • Basketball • ISSUE 47•22 • May 31, 2011

CHICAGO — During Monday’s pregame broadcast, TNT basketball analyst and NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley confirmed that there have been only three straight players in the history of the league: himself and two of his former Phoenix Suns teammates. "So there was me, obviously, Kevin Johnson, and I'm pretty sure Dan Majerle was mostly straight," said Barkley, adding that Wilt Chamberlain had sex with at least twice as many men as women. "George Mikan, Michael Jordan, Jerry West, the entire Detroit Pistons roster under Chuck Daley, Chuck Daley, James Worthy, which is a no-brainer once you meet the guy, Derrick Coleman, and everyone else—all card-carrying friends of Dorothy. I’ll say this, if you want to see gay in all its glory, enter an NBA locker room. There is no more gay-friendly place on earth.” Barkley's controversial statement comes on the heels of another incident just two days earlier, when Kevin McHale, upon being asked about Joakim Noah's use of an antigay slur, responded by passionately kissing TNT commentator Kenny Smith until the channel broke to commercial.

more convincing than Dirk's former fiancee if so

Clips - Grizz feels like a game 7, ridiculously close so far. Every basket feels important. One very good team is gonna get kicked out.

Now that Lakers are gone, Grizzles are my #1 hated team

Ugly ass style of play

Grizz also get away with lots of BS because they have a rep of being tough

OTOH, Clips get whistled almost every time for trying to be just as physical

well, uh, at the risk of getting too SERIOS for the Bore: their engagement and its breakdown kinda between them and it is somewhat harsh to point to this woman and imply some sort of failure on her part to be sufficiently awesome to keep a gay man acting straight, or some failure on his part to deny who he is. He did the right thing but it was obviously a painful thing all around and not something I feel like mocking

Should be an interesting 2nd half. I generally always root for the Grizzlies. I like a scrappy defensive post oriented team since its kinda rare.

There are few things more entertaining than a grit-and-grind come-from-behind win, when everything is a crazy scramble for loose balls and fast breaks, huge offensive rebounds, killer 3s from random sources etc

I've no problem with that but the Grizz get away with stuff most other teams can't

The league has been open about not wanting 90 Knicks ball yet Grizz can still play that style and dish out cheap shots on most nights

i agree whole-heartedly with JVG that the double fouls on Blake and Zach are bullshit. Make a call either way. What is really frustrating is when there is obvious contact from one of them but the refs just ignore it until the other one retaliates. That just ramps up the aggro all around, and frustrates both when the double foul is called.

"Tony Allen might not be an all star , but he does things GM's cant see and does things All stars don't do. same with the starting 5."

Really, Artest?

Allen has pedestrian averages of 8PPG and 1.3 APG

I doubt he'd be getting that much money or minutes if GMs didn't notice what he was doing

On the subject of Artest, someone at the gym actually became buddies with Artest through beach volleyball

He said that Artest fessed up that most of the stuff he says or does is just for media drama

Dude's not anywhere close to being as crazy as he portrays

Hey look at that, the Maloofs don't want to sell to the Sacramento group. Shocking.

Quote
“There is no acceptable deal possible” with the Sacramento group, a Maloof family spokesperson told Reuters, “and no serious desire by the Sacramento group to arrive at one. It has become too onerous for us to continue spending time and resources on a process that cannot succeed.”

http://blog.seattlepi.com/sonics/2013/05/01/kings-fight-aint-over-maloofs-say-no-acceptable-deal-possible-with-sacramento/

I really hope this doesn't turn into the Seattle-OKC situation (ie. Hansen owns the Sacramento Kings, makes a lame ass attempt at building an arena down there and then moves them to Seattle in a year or two when it fails).

I'm pretty sure that statement from the Maloofs is from April 19th and reuters/Seattle is just reprinting it as if its new.

This is why we watch the regular season, so we can avoid the obvious stinkers.

Caught some feels for Asik on the line tonight - he looks miserable at the best of times, and like the most miserable man on earth whenever he misses a catch when alone under the basket. But he manned up and got it done

i lost the tweet already but when Asik was shooting, the Rox averaged something like 1.3 points per possession, vs 0.5-something when the rest of the team was playing normally. So yeah, not a great adjustment there Brooks.

Brooks has been taken to school here - he had NOTHING in his back pocket for this eventuality. KD's usage rate must be nudging 90% at this point. They could still be doing Martin and Collison pick and rolls at least, but nooooooo. Hero Ball all day, even with Durant exhausted and out of ideas and the Rockets knowing exactly how to guard every possession. They're in real trouble here.

Would you actually put him in, cormac?  I think he should focus on a full "mental" recovery, as much bullshit as that is.  Dude is the Bulls franchise for the next decade, this year shouldn't and DOESN'T matter for them.  They're gonna get beat by the Heat in 6 if they even get out of this series.

idk about 'next decade' - he signed a 5 yr extension and he probably has an opt-out somewhere in there too. The days of being able to rely on franchise guys for that long are gone.

The Westbrook and other injuries are a great example of why you should always put yourself in a position to win if you can. If Lebron goes down even for a few games, everyone else has a shot. They have nothing to gain by tanking at this point - they're in the playoffs. If they want to think about getting healthy - get Noah and Deng off the court immediately! They're obviously in worse shape than Rose is.

Either he's ready to play or not. I haven't understand any of this to be honest. If he's not going to play then they should have shut him down for the playoffs. What magical moment are they waiting for him where it suddenly makes sense to play or not.

Curry needs a few shots in this game, damn. Everytime i see him open I am screaming for the Warriors to pass to him
