I should have realized that the spike in the Houston opentable data was caused by Father's Day. As such my interpretation was wrong. If we ignore the spike, reservations plateaued around June 6th, at around -45% YOY and has since been going slowly down (on days not around Father's Day). I think the point that people won't participate in the economy if they don't feel safe is true. Many diners never came back (-45% YOY), and now more (ignoring Father's Day) are staying away. But some people won't give a fuck no matter what.

In Ohio, there was a story of an outbreak because of kids that went to Myrtle Beach a few weeks ago and they all had it.

If I could be a guy in his 30's who compares everything to the same three or four formative experiences in his life, the virus response really reminds me of The Surge from the Iraq occupation: a huge temporary diversion of resources to temporarily mitigate a bad situation, so the authorities have time and space to implement some long term solutions. I am kind of glad that for the most part people have been unable to really pin case increases on BLM protests thus far.

the death numbers would have to be staggering here in the US, well over the 20% excess death metric for some of these people to start believing it. there are more people than you would think down south that don't believe in it at all. it's going to also take a regional disaster I am thinking, hopefully Florida isn't our Italy.

I thought Poland was a goner, but they've been at 300 cases a day for a week (Poland is roughly the size of California). And I don't think it's due to lack of testing as only 2% of tests have come back as positive.

edit: if other Poles are like me, they're champs at social distancing.

Dutch government announced a further easing of restrictions no longer are bars and restaurants capped at 30 people and pretty much all facilities are now open again.
Not sure how I feel about it. They keep talking about 'personal responsibility' but very few people are still social distancing and masks are still not recommended except for public transport.

Outside the risk is less so during these hot summer days the risk is low but when the temperatures start to drop again by early september...

Well one of our employees in our small office of like 9 people tested positive for Covid. I'm told he was on vacation for a week or two and only came into one day when back on Friday and interacted with like 3 people, including my dad.

But that seems odd that my dad started having symptoms on Sunday if he got it from the employee on Friday. I read symptoms usually don't appear until day 4. I guess day 3 is close.

My dad's test results are supposed to come back tomorrow. He's got a small cough now. I'm going to be really surprised if he's not positive and our whole family and office isn't positive because of work spread and father's day family gathering on Sunday. Let's see how many of us die now.

Apparently the employee who tested positive and 2 other employees (not my dad) had a pizza lunch together Friday when the employee was positive where they all decided to share a pizza in a room and chat for an hour with their masks down for lunch break.

We're telling everyone get tested and don't come in to work.
