Is it good?  Or is it "fun for a dozen levels and then you're bored of it"?

http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-PREC/precursors

if you go to that page, what price do you see for the game?

something weird is going on where some see it for $7.50, but it shows $15 for me and others.

then it doesn't make sense!

anyway, there seems to be Sales and Hat Fortress stuff related to QuakeCon coming soon.

the entries are:
Quakecon 2011 Pack
Quakecon 2011 Elder Scrolls Pack
Quakecon 2011 Doom Quake Complete Pack

the first should include Bethesda game, which means every iD game, Brink, that Hunted game, etc.

quakecon starts tomorrow, btw.

Hamilton's Great Adventure is on sale at Gamersgate for $3.38 (66% off):  http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-HGA/hamiltons-great-adventure

You can register it on steam

Looks like a great price for what the game has to offer.

I tried the demo during the sale but it didn't click. The controls weren't satisfying, but I heard the game plays a lot better with a controller so I'll try that. Thanks for the heads up.

It was the same with that Lara Croft game. Keyboard and mouse controls were TERRIBLE, but it was smooth as butter with a controller.

more fitting here than the what you playing thread, but check out The Stanley Parable:  http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-stanley-parable

It's a neat mod that, at most, takes 30 minutes to fully complete.  It is best to play without knowing much about it.  If it had a genre, it would be ludology wankery.

I believe the Source SDK is free to everyone now, so technically, anyone should be able to play it.

The controls are kind of slow and clunky, and the guns have a really odd feel about them. The objectives in each sessions are...weak? Not sure quite how to put it, but it just doesn't feel like there's any real point to them. The levels are way too big as well, you spend half your time running to where everyone else is and then die in two seconds when you finally do.

I don't know how anyone thought anything in brink was a good idea.

I think it's the opposite.  A lot of the ideas in Brink are pretty smart, but it's all rubbish in execution.  Individual objectives for different classes, the SMART movement stuff, how character customization works with body types, blending single and multiplayer, dynamically changing classes mid-game, systems to promote team play, etc.  That all would be great if it didn't suck.

I remember watching dev diaries and they're like: We hate in FPS games when you get stuck on the environment.  Fuck those games.  With SMOOTH MOVEMENT OVER RANDOM TERRAIN, or SMART, you just hold the button and you will dynamically get to where you need to go.

Actually playing the game game: get stuck on environment

Dev diary: We made it so every class is crucial to the battle and has their own objectives.

Playing:  Defend VIP.  switch to engineer.  Defend VIP.  switch to medic.  Defend VIP.  switch to soldier.  Defend VIP.

I agree with this. The map and objective design isn't all that well done either from the few I've played this weekend. It's fairly easy to get lost in a bunch of seemingly repeating visual areas (especially when you follow an icon just to find it's on the other side of the wall but you have to circle all the way around the map and go to a different level and back down, etc.) and it's lots of attack/defend or escorting.

And "F" for everything?

That's sort of what I meant. When playing it no part of it is any good, but it probably sounded great when they were thinking of it.

Nobody cares but I played a good amount more, trying to get as much free weekend out of it, did the challenges and unlocked tons of stuff.

It does get better once you start upgrading your weapons and stuff. The defaults are pretty crappy compared to what you can use after a couple hours. SMART is great when you can figure out where and when to use it. Scaling a ton of crap up out of nowhere to drop behind an entire team is fun. Too bad only like 10% of the map area is built for using it in a fun way.

Still has way too many flaws as everybody noted, even ones Quake Wars didn't have. Online is really hard to judge since people are just hopping onto any server they can find and lag is way up there. Seems unbalanced towards higher level players though especially since free weekenders aren't knowing the maps/objectives/etc.

No ability to filter out full servers. :lol

Couldn't get co-op to work at all this weekend, tried with three different people. Probably should have looked up ports but whatever.

Depending on what and how they add new content from here, might pick it up at $5 or so.

I'm playing Magicka for the first time since I purchased it, and while it has many niggling issues, I'm blown away by the magic conjuring mechanics...

- There are 8 elements
- You can combine 5 spells
- It can be released as direct spells, area, on self, or infused with weapons. Not to mention the shield spell which can work with any combination then released ALSO as direct, area, self, or weapons.
- And finally we have the special "Magick" spells.

Sheer lunacy I tell you.

I was expecting it to be something, but it turned out to be entirely different, but in a good way. I was ready to hate it for not having loot.

By the way, does disabling v-sync from the card's control panel override all game settings universally?

Magicka seems to be poorly optimized, has a stutter-y framerate even on 720. Enabling triple buffering helps a lot but the stuttering is still noticeable. People are saying the game is forcing V-sync on with no in-game option to disable it or any config.ini files to edit. Turning off v-sync from my card's control panel + enabling triple buffering seems to solve the problem, so I'm wondering if it'll work for every other similar game, and saves me the trouble of tweaking graphic options/config.ini files every time.

Thoughts?
