its so lame that no big names are fucking with Alc anymore. maybe they have no confidence in his ability to do mainstream ?

still don't know why Ross didn't release this

crazy chopping

Alchemist's style fits perfectly with the MMG style, and of course he used to chill with Em. Dunno why they don't get more shit from him, it's not like he can't do mainstream stuff. Oh well, just means more dope shit for Roc Marci to rap over

oh, clipping? you'd have known about them forever ago if you followed my tumblr (which no one does)

i convinced them to do some work for impose magazine at SXSW where they shot video and collected field recordings along with photos taken using disposable cameras

my favorite track on the album is probably Story.

Quote
The stand out track is probably “Story” where a car crash is detailed in near Ballardian detail with a degree of abstraction that rewards multiple listens. The track switches back and forth between a killer in the car crash and the actions leading up to that event before flashing forward to the aftermath of the first responder cop.  In the track, we several different metres and the accents hit all over the place to provide a sense of disorientation as the track progresses.  The abstraction is more pronounced in the sections dealing with the accident victim while we get literal boom boom boom boom straight forward rapping from the cop’s narrative.  TLDR; it’s really fucking good and if you don’t listen to anything else on this release, you should check this one song out.

Their tumblr is a very good collection of tracks the call "Precedent" which shows the way they reached their current sound based on the works of others.  They include Zeigenbock Kapf,, which I've discussed on the Bore before.  They were a joke industrial band that tried to take right wing and homosexual elements and push them to the extreme to see what would happen.  Usually something hilarious like "Fuck You To Dust"

I don't even know what to say that about that song. Nor do I even see the point; who was in that studio saying "yea yea my man, this shit will be all in the clubs!" I wish rappers from that era would just do what they know best instead of attempt to fit in whatever is popular today. The outcome is almost always cheesy. (apparently this won't be on his new album, which instead will feature Earth Wind & Fire and Van Halen. Good for you LL)

I guess it could be worse...

Here goes yet another Rap-Country collaboration for you. LL Cool J has joined forces with Country veteran Brad Paisley on ‘Accidental Racist’, a song that appears on the latter’s new album Wheelhouse, hitting stores on Tuesday, April 9. The thought provoking song is sure to turn heads, both because of the controversial topic as well as Cool James’ decision to venture into this sound.

Brad Paisley will also appear on LL’s new album Authentic (April 30) on a song called ‘Live For You’. Here’s what he told Radio.com about working with Brad:

“It’s going to get a lot of attention … and I’ll leave it at that ’cause I wanna let him talk about it. I don’t wanna spoil his thing on his album but we did something that was really cool. The song we did on my record, it’s not like I’m trying to do a gimmicky thing. It’s not like, ‘Oh the country meets the rapper and it’s a hoedown!’ It’s none of that. He’s a great singer. I let him sing on something that I felt he would sound cool on, and play the guitar as well because musicianship is a huge part of this record. I wanted great musicians on my album. Brad was a lot of fun in the studio. He’s playing the guitar.”

LL Cool J says slavery is forgiven if we stop glaring at his pants and gold chains.

no, really.

Listen to the song.

bonus: he also says that the durag is like the rebel flag.  so you know.

Ah, the actual Ghostface album just leaked, not the NPR rip.

LL...I suppose he deserves credit for knowing who his audience is. That album also has Van Halen and Earth Wind & Fire on it, which hits two points on the Stuff White People Like list (80s rock, and black music black people don't listen to anymore).

it's all about lyrics, yo

To the man that waited on me at the Starbucks down on Main, I hope you understand

When I put on that t-shirt, the only thing I meant to say is I’m a Skynyrd fan

The red flag on my chest somehow is like the elephant in the corner of the south

And I just walked him right in the room

Just a proud rebel son with an ‘ol can of worms

Lookin’ like I got a lot to learn but from my point of view

I’m just a white man comin’ to you from the southland

Tryin’ to understand what it’s like not to be

I’m proud of where I’m from but not everything we’ve done

And it ain’t like you and me can re-write history

Our generation didn’t start this nation

We’re still pickin’ up the pieces, walkin’ on eggshells, fightin’ over yesterday

And caught between southern pride and southern blame

They called it Reconstruction, fixed the buildings, dried some tears

We’re still siftin’ through the rubble after a hundred-fifty years

I try to put myself in your shoes and that’s a good place to begin

But it ain’t like I can walk a mile in someone else’s skin

‘Cause I’m a white man livin’ in the southland

Just like you I’m more than what you see

I’m proud of where I’m from but not everything we’ve done

And it ain’t like you and me can re-write history

Our generation didn’t start this nation

And we’re still paying for mistakes

That a bunch of folks made long before we came

And caught between southern pride and southern blame

Dear Mr. White Man, I wish you understood

What the world is really like when you’re livin’ in the hood

Just because my pants are saggin’ doesn’t mean I’m up to no good

You should try to get to know me, I really wish you would

Now my chains are gold but I’m still misunderstood

I wasn’t there when Sherman’s March turned the south into firewood

I want you to get paid but be a slave I never could

Feel like a new fangled Django, dodgin’ invisible white hoods

So when I see that white cowboy hat, I’m thinkin’ it’s not all good

I guess we’re both guilty of judgin’ the cover not the book

I’d love to buy you a beer, conversate and clear the air

But I see that red flag and I think you wish I wasn’t here

I’m just a white man

(If you don’t judge my do-rag)

Comin’ to you from the southland

(I won’t judge your red flag)

Tryin’ to understand what it’s like not to be

I’m proud of where I’m from

(If you don’t judge my gold chains)

But not everything we’ve done

(I’ll forget the iron chains)

it ain’t like you and me can re-write history

(Can’t re-write history baby)

Oh, Dixieland

(The relationship between the Mason-Dixon needs some fixin’)

I hope you understand what this is all about

(Quite frankly I’m a black Yankee but I’ve been thinkin’ about this lately)

I’m a son of the new south

(The past is the past, you feel me)

And I just want to make things right

(Let bygones be bygones)

Where all that’s left is southern pride

(RIP Robert E. Lee but I’ve gotta thank Abraham Lincoln for freeing me, know what I mean)

It’s real, it’s real

It’s truth

Rick Ross just learned a hard lesson about rape and money ... you embrace one, you lose the other ... because he was just DUMPED by Reebok.

As TMZ previously reported ... Ross has taken a ton of heat for his song, U.O.E.N.O ... in which he happily sings, "Put Molly [Ecstasy] all in the champagne. She ain't even know it. I took her home and I enjoy that. She ain't even know it." Translation -- date rape.

Reebok tells TMZ ... "Reebok holds our partners to a high standard, and we expect them to live up to the values of our brand. Unfortunately, Rick Ross has failed to do so."

Reebok goes on: "While we do not believe that Rick Ross condones sexual assault, we are very disappointed he has yet to display an understanding of the seriousness of this issue or an appropriate level of remorse."
http://www.tmz.com/2013/04/11/reebok-dumps-rick-ross-drops/
 :lol

You know what...good. Everyone else is held responsible for saying dumb shit, might as well apply it to rappers with endorsement deals. I'd bet Ross has never used molly and doesn't fuck with pills, this was just him trying to imitate what others are rapping about. I'm getting tired of molly references, although to be fair I fux with Danny Brown heavy

Ghostface Killer has a short interview up on Fact Magazine today where he talks about writing while sober but the most interesting exchange was this one at the end.

http://www.factmag.com/2013/04/16/im-not-finished-i-still-got-a-story-to-tell-wu-tang-clanss-ghostface-talks-growing-old-finding-god-and-his-new-album-12-reasons-to-die/

Quote
is there anything else you haven’t touched yet in your career that you’re looking forward to trying? Is there anything you haven’t done yet that you’ve always wanted to do?

Yeah, I wanna rhyme about God, I wanna do a God album, a positive album so the kids and everybody will understand what’s going on. I want to tell what’s going on through my eyes. I don’t wanna give too many of my ideas away because people just be taking them. Feed the poor people, feed the animals, that’s one of the main reasons I’m here. God put me here to teach people and to lead people to his direction. I’m not a Christian, I’m a Muslim but God is one. I just believe in the most high. I know what my duty is.

So whatever path people might take to the most high, as long as they go there…

All channels of water, all the waters lead in one direction and that’s direction to the most high. I keep saying the most high because I don’t want to intimidate anybody or have people feeling like I’m telling them to follow my God. There’s only one God It’s what I feel, if that’s what you feel it’s whatever whatever whatever. My job is to make them aware, to say something to turn they mind to that right direction.

What turned your mind to that? there must have been a point where you turned towards that direction yourself.

I’ve always been into Islam. I got alotta questions and I got a lot of my questions answered through Islam. when I look at history and I look at all the prophets, I love them all from Moses, Noah, Jesus, Abraham, Solomon, David, Job, Ezekiel, John the Baptist, Jona, all of them. I love them all because they all served a purpose. It’s like the stories I heard on all them prophets, I was fascinated by it. Wow!

From a young age?

Not even from a young age, I learnt about that later on in life. I went to the mosque one day and it came to me like, this is where I belong. I left out of that and I felt clean, I felt clean. I didn’t know how to pray like the muslims but I prayed in my heart like how I regularly would pray and did the same movements they did but when I left out of there, I felt clean, clean! I done been to church, I done been to other places and I never felt like the way I felt like when I went there. I’m a spiritual brother, I follow the signs so if that made me feel clean leaving outta there, God is clean right?

Yes sir.

Alright then. That’s what made me know I belonged there. I had to follow that sign there. I was always into Islam, not a muslim, but I was always into it. I studied muslim lessons. When I got in that mosque, it was different you know what I mean. That was it. That’s how I know that I belong there.

And that was the path for you.

That was my path for me, exactly.

Nice, plus Logan Melissa  :bow

That's probably the best song on the album. I'm liking it more than I did on my first listening although I still think Ghost sounds "off" in terms of his flow; he's off beat on some of the instrumentals. This track works so well in part because it doesn't feature the beat switches that leave Ghost's flow in the dust, found on other tracks. Deck and Killa Sin really took advantage of the production IMO, and I find myself wondering what this would sound like if a more energetic Ghostface appeared.

Still gonna cop this though

NEW YORK—A report published Friday by a team of sociologists has confirmed there are apparently people living in the world today who are deeply concerned about the current state of hip-hop and who continually express genuine worry over the musical genre’s future.

According to the findings, at any given moment, hundreds of very serious conversations about the changing face of hip-hop are taking place, with many individuals appearing to have an actual emotional stake in matters such as the values of modern-day rappers, technology’s impact on the music, and Gucci Mane’s eventual place in cultural history.

“These people actually exist,” said New York University sociologist David Wolfsheim, who stressed that he was not referring just to artists, music industry employees, or even professional critics, but to everyday individuals who, for reasons not yet understood, feel a heavy personal investment in the state of hip-hop. “They experience true anxiety, day in and day out, about where the music has been and where it’s headed, almost as if their own futures depended upon it.”

“Believe it or not, these are otherwise normal people who are unable to listen to a single track by someone like Lil Wayne or Rick Ross without immediately worrying about whether the song remains true to hip-hop’s roots,” Wolfsheim continued. “This is a real thing that happens.”

Calculations from the report indicate that the amount of time and energy such individuals devote to their concern over the quality of today’s hip-hop artists and the direction it is taking is roughly equivalent to what ordinary human beings might devote to working hard at a chosen career, spending time with family and loved ones, or finding ways to actually contribute something to the communities in which they live.

The report also confirmed that the sentences “Mainstream hip-hop is losing its street edge,” “The over-commercialization of rap is ruining modern music,” and “Sometimes, it seems like nothing will ever top classic Public Enemy,” are all statements that have been uttered with full sincerity over the past year.

“Many of these individuals have been known to devise complex theories as to why hip-hop’s sound has changed over the years, and some have even written serious, in-depth manifestos on how the genre’s ‘authenticity’ can be restored,” Wolfsheim said. “Most worryingly, perhaps, the stress levels observed in these individuals as they discuss hip-hop’s declining relevance to our culture is off the charts.”

“They get really, really upset about it,” he added.

In addition, Wolfsheim noted the discovery of hundreds of websites and blogs that appear to be entirely dominated by very earnest debates about what it means to be a true hip-hop artist, and how a higher level of consciousness “must” be revived in rap. According to estimates, approximately 237 million words have been devoted to the theory that the music has changed because today’s performers didn’t “come up as hard” as earlier generations and will “just say whatever it takes to sell a record.”

Thirty-nine-year-old Boise, ID resident Wallace Briggs, a real-life human being who described himself as “deeply troubled by at least nine distinct trends in modern hip-hop,” spoke to reporters Friday about his gravest fears.

“Sometimes I lie awake in the middle of the night thinking, my God, what if the golden age of hip-hop is over for good?” said Briggs, a physical therapist and father of two. “It’s devastating. I just don’t know if the artists emerging today can ever restore the social relevance and cultural vibrancy of the music.”

Pressed for further comment, Briggs acknowledged that he has been voicing this exact same sentiment about hip-hop since 1988.

That article is too real, I can't handle it. I knew I was doomed when I read "living in the world today" in the first sentence and automatically thought of the GZA song, followed by the slight depression I feel whenever I think of GZA. He can't rap anymore  :'(

Rap has really improved over the past few years.  If everyone in Young Money just disappeared, we may be getting into some real classic years.

in honor of his birthday Sadistik is giving away his latest album for free.  You just pay shipping (which comes to $5)

flowers for my father is a really intense personal album.  not really emo like those early 00 Atmosphere albums but in that same lane.  I liked it when I heard it earlier this year and I went ahead and grabbed a copy here.

went to the Big Boi / Killer Mike tour last night and it was insane.  Big Boi played a 30+ song set list and took requests.  They would play extended medleys where each song flowed into the next.  It was probably one of the better shows I've seen this year and certainly one of the best rap shows i've seen period.
