Late response, but it just surprises me when anyone knows of these local rappers that I happened to meet through mutual friends.

I put the album on last night in bed, first track blew my face off.

I said it in the GAF thread and I'll say it again: Alchemist is on a run we haven't seen since 90s RZA. He's unstoppable right now.

You don't ever really wanna hear Detox. The single random songs Dre has put out in the past few years have been absolute garbage. Not even good beats. The only thing Dre has been involved with recently that wasnt pure trash was GKMC. Thats it. Beats are mediocre as fuck too.

I agree.  My :hans1 theory on Kush and I Need a Doctor was that Dre was trying to see if people were going to accept a lower quality Detox album.  In other words, were people so thirsty for a new Dre album that B tier efforts would be good enough?  Since neither single took off in any meaningful way, the answer was no.  2001 was huge and Still DRE was fucking massive but both Detox singles fell flat.  If that was the best Dre could come up with in 10-12 years since 2001, then he was better off not putting out Detox.

I was joking about Detox since we know it isn't coming out.  Dr. Dre seems more interested in Beats and now with this streaming service, he might just quit producing as well.  As you said, no big loss even though I really liked his stuff a long time ago.

I Need A Doctor has like 150mil views on youtube and went 3x plat on iTunes. Kush did well too. Obviously the first song was carried by Eminem's popularity (and Skylar Grey was big at the time), and Akon is popular enough to make anything chart somewhere in the world.

Dre's hesitance is moreso due to not wanting to under perform commercially IMO. Even if he released a classic album it might not go platinum in this climate. Plus I think he's struggling to find a sound that fits current trends. Remember when this shit "leaked?"

It was officially used in an HP commercial (that starred Dre). People shat on the song then Dre acted like it was a leak and was never a real song. Dude is scared of bombing.

Tariq Nasheed is many things. I think he first became popular selling PUA macking books and then upgraded to writing 48 laws of power cornball paraphrased Machiavelli shit. His stuff has always been race-related, and he recently expanded into it with these Hidden Colors documentaries which are some of the worst smart dumb, ahistorical, pseudoscientific Oswald Bates pro-black garbage. All the material in it is sourced by cornballs, scam artists, and more pseudoscience. I get where it's coming from; trying to inspire pride in the African American community, but it's really just as bad as the whitewashing of 19th/early 20th century european supremacists working in archaeology, history, sociology etc. It's bullshit. I'm not really surprised with Nas for shacking up with something like this; it's in his mentality.

And this is with whom you want to place your faith?

The second announced album is AG Da Coroner’s “Sip the Nectar”. As Coroner reveals in the newsletter, the production will be handled by Statik Selektah, Alchemist, ATG, Stu Bangas, MTK, Harry Fraud, Nappanott And Pirate, DJ Uneek, Bartenders and a few other surprising names.

As for the features, AG sides with his hometown fellow artists.

““I worked with the family...Meyhem Lauren, J-Love, Action Bronson, Roc Marci, Lord Nez, Realm Reality, Sean Price, Smoke Dza, Boogz Boogetz, Knowledge The Pirate, Illa Ghee, Twin Gambino, Bodega Bamz, Ransom...maybe a few surprises in store as well,” he says.
