On one hand, I'm glad they got him because he's a evil terrorist plotting to kill innocents. On the other hand I don't get the sentiment that's going around that the war is over or some major historic event occurred. You take one terrorist down and another takes their place. There's still going to be terrorists and we're still going to be fighting them for a long, long time. +1 for America though.

The war is far from over, but he was the iconic figurehead of the people who attacked the the US, England and Spain. It means something to a lot of people.

Was it a mirror-image of Obama's campaign talk, of the US having actionable intelligence without assistance by Pakistan, and giving the word to go in?

Or did Pakistan actually give real assistance and cooperation in the matter?

Well, for half a decade, I've taken it for granted that too great an element of the ISI has sided with Bin Laden et al. I think the true story will be as complex as you suggest. Ghost Wars, etc. etc.

Since I tend to get distracted with work these days, if you get any interesting bits and pieces of the story, I'd appreciate any interesting links on the subject.

Apparently not.

I've never heard him say anything political before, so it's not like he's a hardcore Tea Partier or anything. He's just a young guy who I imagine doesn't pay attention to this crap much, except for what he's told in chain emails from some cranky relative. Pretty striking/depressing/hilarious the sheer craziness of the misinformation and blind confidence in its truth.

Credit where it's due, though: He was right about Saddam being Iraq's 5th president, which I didn't know.
