My interest in anime/manga has waned to almost nothing over the last 6 years but 2 days ago I finished reading something which reminded me of why I got into this shit in the first place. That manga was Knights Of Sidonia by the awesome Tsutomu Nihei. It is much more mainstream-friendly than his past works, but it still manages to deliver that special flavor of sci-fi that only Nihei and, to a further extent, anime/manga can provide. It was the first manga I read all year and I loved every chapter of it. I'm not sure if I will follow it monthly or if I will let a few more volumes come out before I go back to it, but this is definitely something I will stick with.

Sidonia also has an anime series. 13 episodes are out now [and available on Netflix], with another 13 starting up in November.

Huh, interesting. Since it's on Netflix I'll check out an episode or two thanks

Sidonia is the only modern manga I've stuck with. Great art, designs, world building, etc.

Toei probably spent their whole Sailor Moon budget drawing new transformation scenes for the second half of HapinessCharge Precure. 10 bucks just don't spend like it used to.

Ping Pong the Animation is only 11 episodes, and absolutely amazing. I highly recommend it. I dont even give a shit about Ping Pong.

If being sarcastic, that's a small clip from the second episode. The series focuses on more than Tsukimoto (who is regarded as the most boring character to follow), and you kind of need to see more than a small out of context clip to get a feel for the show.

Uh...no. I posted that video because the scene it depicts is awesome and the music is SO GOOD.

Ping Pong is one of my top animes of recent years.

Rewatched the last three episodes of Macross Frontier tonight on Blu-ray. Haven't watched them in years.

Sooooo goood.

Series and film spoilers

I like some of changes, like Alto explicitly choosing Sheryl in the movie, but I still feel that Michel not dying like he did in the series took away a lot.

In closing, haters gonna hate. If you can just get over the knee-jerk Ranka hate (which is justified, Team Sheryl FTW), Himu, the series really has what you're looking for.

And Harmony Gold can keep on fucking themselves until the end of time.

I've always been partial to the explanation that their transformations take place in some kind of space-time bubble, and appear instantaneous to outside viewers. I think there's a couple of episodes of Sailor Moon where for time reason, it's cuts out their transformation scenes and they just kinda poof into their sailor uniforms, so that would kinda support the theory that their transformations aren't actually taking place in real-time.

The new all-CG Captain Harlock movie got added to Netflix a few days ago, so I decided to check it out. And it was actually pretty good. The CG was really nice, about on par with Square's cutscenes, and it had some great space battle action going on. The story was a bit hit-and-miss, but it was mostly able to do its job and tell a complete story about Harlock and what his whole deal is. All around it was very competent, just not necessarily anything particularly special [much like most of the rest of the movies Shinji Aramaki has made].

Getting back to the current season:

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders- I love it, but man...can we fucking get to Egypt already?   :lol

Akame Ga Kill- This is enjoyable too, but the art style and insanely violent content continue to clash in the weirdest ways to me.
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Did not see Sheele's death coming in the last episode.  Cut in fucking half, then eaten, holy shit.
[close]

Zankyou No Terror- Starting to get bored of this.  They plant bombs and blow shit up, then suddenly want to stop their own bomb from blowing up and race to disarm it?  HUH?  My wife keeps saying that Lisa is an annoying waste of a character and needs to die already.   :o :lol

Tokyo ESP- This has been pretty fun.  It's totally X-MEN JAPAN EDITION but it's an enjoyable romp.

Aldnoah Zero- Continues to be enjoyable, and I continue to be both irked and amused by the "soldiers are dumb and get killed off quick, high school kid single-handedly stops crazy-powerful mechs" trope going on.
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Am assuming that the princess will lend her power -or whatever it is- to the Earth side to get their own powerful mechs.
[close]

Persona 4 The Golden- Seems to be less about the actual story of P4 and more about wacky hijinx with Yu and friends.  Persona slice-of-life comedy.  Weird.

Space Dandy- Always entertaining.  Nothing to say other than I look forward to it every week, just like JoJo.

Kindaichi- Wow, did we really need an entire episode devoted to Kindaichi as a perverted little middle school student?  Did he really just take Miyuki's panties and put them on his head?  Yes, he did.   :wtf  What an odd break from tales of murder.

I'm getting bored, too. It's certainly not breaking new ground. They should have let Lisa die in the explosion.

Essentially, their goal isn't random destruction and death, but to lead the police into digging the backgrounds of the men who ran the institute where they were kept and exposing the truth about it. Leaving behind a trail of bodies, instead of just some damaged property, would seriously hinder that goal. Five realized that and attempted to exploit it.

But there's no way some first responders weren't killed when that tower collapsed in the first episode, though.

With Zankyou No Terror, its seems to me that those kids would be better off if they sent the police and media a letter with all the details of the fuckery that happened, since they now have everyone's attention.

As in the real world, it would get denied up and down by the involved parties, the police as a whole wouldn't take it seriously, and the media would be highly skeptical of the accusations of a couple of terrorists. They need the police to dig up the evidence.
