Yeesh.  Of those admitted to the ICU, those that fit Johnson's profile : 45.8% - 57.6% die.

shosta, you brought up china's stats to compare them to south korea's (which are both rather low), so if there's some fudging of the numbers it doesn't have to be on a huge scale to be relevant to the point you were making

TBH I think most of those people would not have had doctors constantly monitoring them and probably wouldn't even have made it to a hospital bed before moving to the ICU, which will skew the stats towards dying.

Right.  Adding to the likely possibility that they put him in the ICU despite not being sick enough because of his political status.  Could be wrong, though.

We will be at over a million active cases by tonight.  US is already over 1000 today.  Canada had another bad day, and going by cbc numbers, tomorrow will be bad too.

They're saying both the nature of the virus and long-distance public transportation across prefectures could be devastating to the country if they continue down this path.

There is a big difference between not being sick enough and being privileged in a time when everyone is under-resourced.  I'm sure if he is in an icu, he would also be in an icu if no one else was sick.

Oh wow you're right. You are sucking that ChiCom dick hard.

My earnest opinion : China numbers are accurate until proven otherwise.
:yeshrug

To be honest I don't care much for the constant comments everywhere about they're covering up the numbers, man ! Not just China, but Iran, Japan and every other country. It's not healthy skepticism most of the time IMHO.

Still, governments lie. Authoritarian regimes lie. Marxist Leninist Popular Democracies lie. Massive health crisis are minimised all the time, even if it's more incompetence than malice. And even with some sympathy for China, I certainly believe they have better control over the means to do so than liberal countries.

Yeesh.  Of those admitted to the ICU, those that fit Johnson's profile : 45.8% - 57.6% die.

Things skew poorly for him since he has multiple negative factors (middle aged, male, obese).
Bear in mind the obese mortality is pulled up by men and down by women. As well as up by the 50+ demographic and down by the under 50s.

Therefore male+obese+older likely has a higher mortality rate than any one category.
I don't know much about his politics, but it was always good for a laugh to happen upon stuff  :-\

I also said that I wasn't going to extrapolate too much from that comparison - just pointing out that it wasn't clear South Korea's strategy was preferable to China's. I'm not saying China's is preferable or provably lower either.

I'm not making a point anyway, I'm responding to a (strawman, but representative) argument.

If any mass death was actually happening, we'd know about. Can only cover up so much when you have oh so many places for things to leak. Millions of individuals with global communications access.
Understated, possibly, this virus seems way too contagious to be put away easily. Cover up debates is mainly geopolitical dick thrusts between the American state with its (media) subsidiaries and opponents.

US blocks millions of N95 face masks headed for Canada

“Never again in the history of Canada should we ever be beholden to countries around the world or companies around the world for the safety and well-being for the people of Canada,” Ford said Friday. ”I’m not going to rely on President Trump, I’m not going to rely on any prime minister or president from any country ever again.”

i don't want to suck china's dick too hard here but maybe you guys are just experiencing a lot of cognitive dissonance that a country of a billion poor ass rice farmers who allegedly eat bats was able to mobilize its resources and effectively contain/suppress the outbreak while the apex civilizations are still squabbling over distribution of masks and constitutional rights.
Why is it so hard to believe that a totalitarian regime that routinely makes whole groups of people disappear is also probably not reporting on the number of deaths being caused by a virus that originated in said totalitarianism regime?

To echo the prophet of our times, "What does he have to lose?"

Still it would be a fitting but sad end to his story arc.

Also you can't trust the Russians with much but you can trust them when it comes to reports of the health of world leaders.

An Ontario government source then clarified that it was actually 500,000 — not three million — medical masks held up at the border, but said they had since been released.

Then after that, Ford spoke to media at his daily press conference to offer additional explanation.

“What I understand is we had three million masks that were stopped by U.S. officials coming out of 3M in South Dakota,” Ford said.

There was like 2 days where blacks people thought they were immune to Corona virus.

60 percent of New Orleans is black.

We’re seeing similar disparity in other places like Michigan and Illinois because of the large Black populations in Chicago and Detroit.

You have to think that public transportation is playing a huge role in the spread of this.

That and the bolded in the quote. There have literally been black gatherings posted on Twitter despite the stay-at-home order and someone sarcastically saying there was no black infected on Twitter (which got retweeted a lot of times, even if it was an ironic "joke" tweet). Folks not taking shit seriously is why they get it.

(And not just blacks, hello white church goers in Seattle.)

Blaming this on hitting blacks at a higher rate on them not taking this seriously isn't great.  They are at higher exposure risks for multiple reasons, like working low paying essential service jobs, not being in positions to take time off, and more likely to not have health insurance, as well as the mentioned public transportation.

...Yes, and not taking this shit seriously. And being fair: Again, white folks aren't taking this shit seriously either. Going to church, going out for hikes/parking cars next to each other, etc. Folks simply aren't social distancing and the folks that DO take this shit seriously are getting coughed at/spit on and harassed if they head to stores to pick up essentials.

The entire nation isn't taking this shit seriously. Because Trump isn't doing shit about this. The states are late in enforcing shit (have had businesses that didn't change from eat-in to take-out only continue to do so and then bitch when hit with code violations despite blatantly violating a county-wide law).
