What’s the point of antibody tests if they can’t discern the difference between covid19 antibodies and other Coronaviruses?  Why are people carrying on like this is some kind of stopgap solution?

Were any of the other coronaviruses wide-spread in the west? If not, then it still seems ok.

There are many strains of Coronavirus. 4 of them are what we diagnose as the common cold.

Six species of human coronaviruses are known, with one species subdivided into two different strains, making seven strains of human coronaviruses altogether. Four of these coronaviruses continually circulate in the human population and produce the generally mild symptoms of the common cold in adults and children worldwide: -OC43, -HKU1, HCoV-229E, -NL63.[72] Coronaviruses cause about 15% of commons colds.[73] The majority of colds are caused by rhinoviruses.[74] The four mild coronaviruses have a seasonal incidence occurring in the winter months in temperate climates.[75][76] There is no preference towards a particular season in tropical climates.[77]

People must be shitty tippers in Kentucky;  my Barista friends make hundreds per shift in tips.

Could be the fact they serve coffee in see-through bikinis and show you their cornhole for $5.

But seriously at the basic trendy hipster shops in Seattle pretty sure Baristas pull in more than $600 a week in tips alone.
Average Salary in Harlan KY: $10.61
Average Salary in Seattle WA: $22.55

Yeah but everyone in Harlan county is getting paid under the table by the Crowders.

Damn one of my favorite restaurants is 25% off for the next month - I'm all for being a good citizen and staying at home but ...

My favorite burrito place closed a couple weeks ago... but this week I noticed they were opening again. You can bet your ass I'm walking over and picking up nachos tomorrow after work.

It is a big problem and all current studies should be taken as preliminary results. But I think there is a very rapid development concerning those tests and the tests now are maybe much better than those 2 weeks ago. There are currently about 25 different antibody tests in use and measuring how precise the tests for Sars-CoV-2 are is part of those studies. I think tests in labs have a rate of false positive of 2-3 % - so not that much. Not sure how many false negative those have, but as far i i understand this is less of a problem.

More than 50,000 people in the United States have died of the COVID-19 disease, a grim milestone in a global pandemic that shows few signs of slowing even as pressure mounts to reopen parts of the U.S. economy.

The death toll is 16 times greater than the number of Americans who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks and about one-and-a-half times larger than the number of U.S. soldiers who died in the Korean War. At the current pace, the number of coronavirus deaths is likely to surpass the number of Americans who died in the Vietnam War by the middle of next week.

The French just gave KLM-Air France a 7 billion Euro bailout.
The Dutch government added 4 billion to that number.

It was worth about 3 - 4 billion and now about 2 billion.
In other words they're spending 11 billion to bail out a company and its shareholders that could've been nationalized for far less.

So far 36,668 new cases in the US today, which I think is a record, thought probably due to more testing as deaths are down a bit.

Wouldn't put much into the death number being slightly down today, but the new cases number being up is definitely a bad sign [especially with stay-at-home orders being loosened in a lot of states].

Well, we're supposed to be on the downswing from all the social distancing and shutting things down, so the numbers trending up again [even if it's not a sharp increase] a few days ahead of a number of states reopening is definitely not good.

Things are starting to tilt towards the scenario I feared...

My fear is by the time we get a vaccine it'll have mutated into something else and we'll start this whole thing all over again.

And my biggest fear is that keeps happening indefinitely. But I guess humans will just have to cope.

Kids 10 years from now "Whoah, you actually went outside for *most* of the day?? Not 30 mins?? What was that like?"

"Well back then we had these things called jobs that required us to leave the house."

"Whoooooaaaaahhhh"

The new normal for humanity might be enforced physical isolation for >90% of every day.

Looks like it's just a product of high testing because of the low death total (assuming the death total is real). 37 people tests per case compared to say 3:1 for France.
