Travelling to the United States is likely not on the list of things to do this summer for many Canadians. In fact, a recent Ipsos poll found 93 per cent of Canadians believed travelling to the U.S. this summer would be too risky.

The way some U.S. officials have handled the novel coronavirus pandemic, including reopening the economy when the number of cases continues to rise, has health experts and casual observers worried about what might happen if Canada were to reopen its border too soon.

Yet some drivers are doing just that. Worried they could catch the virus and then transmit it to family members and others once back in Canada, they’re turning down work in the U.S. in favour of staying closer to home.

“I just don’t trust them,” said Dan Carson, a truck driver from southern Ontario who refuses to work in the U.S.

I think that's the stupidest tweet he ever wrote without spelling errors. He's looking like a fool by backpedaling on a position he's fiercely maintained, throws in a (confusing) xenophobic dig to try to distract, and gets the flow of it all weirdly disjointed by trying to remember to mention that it's also important to social distance and to consider him your favorite president.

It honestly breaks my heart to think of all the people who voted for him in 2016 that are now left with this tweet as the whittled down fig leaf of a defense for how they didn't just make all the wrong decisions in that voting booth.

There's a reason why it's called public health. If the government has a realistic expectation of a person not being vaccinated can create a health hazard, then yes they should restrict your ability to interact with the public. This is why schools say students have to be vaccinated before enrolling.

Ya, I was intially really hopeful that India would be OK   They shut the borders real fast and seemed to be doing ok, but I don't think they can't do a lockdown like Europe or China due to economic reasons.

I read some analysis on the virus in India which sounded pretty familiar: they had a 2 month lockdown but didn't use the time to get a system set in place for sufficient testing, test & trace, centralized quarantine, etc.

On top of that you have to imagine a poor, densely populated country has all sorts of hurdles in terms of how people live and work, besides a general lack of resources. No way they could shift as much of their economy to WFH as the US did, for example.
