The worse that can happen is there are many people there, and they all know each other and I know no one and end up sitting alone silently watching a movie for a painful two hours. I remember going to my friend's birthday party years ago. He was about 3 years older than me, and most of the invitees were kids from his neighborhood and basketball team. I didn't know any of them and was pretty shy. I tried walking around, trying to talk to him for the entire event, but obviously he wanted to hang out with other people as well. It was a disaster

Making friends around midterm period is the way to go. Every hard class is going to spawn study sessions, and getting into one will work wonders. Showing people that you're reliable in that situation will make them gravitate towards you, and vise versa.

I went to a small philo department thing today that had 3 profs and 6 other students including too-much-make-up girl. She made a great joke about first year psychology classes. She also mentioned her boyfriend and that the philo movie night usually has like 12 people. Definitely not going.

Yesterday after work, all of the teachers went out to an awesome restaurant. We all got pretty buzzed on soju and makkoli (Korean rice wine). It's amazing how much better the real rice wine is than the crappy store-brand stuff you can find in convenience stores. Anyway, I got home at around 9 and thought I would take a powernap before heading downtown at 11 on the last subway, but I forgot to set an alarm, and I slept straight through to 5am. I was pretty tired from the week. Kinda sucks though, because there were some big parties last night that I missed. I'll have to make up for it tonight.

Also, FM, you really need to be more comfortable around strangers. You're going to miss out on a lot of opportunities in life if you don't improve in this area.

They opened up the country's first Ikea near my house last month, went today, the place is pretty awesome, they sell some really cheap and delicious meatballs with cranberry sauce and fries and lots of Swede chocolates and deserts, their furniture is pretty cool and cheap too, will go back.
