I'm half expecting BOTW2 to be held off for the Switch U tbh.
Would have agreed if there wasn't a chip shortage that will force them to delay new console launches.
Ya, I think the plan was a Twilight Princess type of release with Switch Pro in 2022 but then the chip thing fucked that up and Switch Pro is now shuffled off for later years or scratched all together.
The Switch OLED is almost exactly like the most credible Switch Pro leak at the time. Which stated that the system was mostly the same but included a DLSS enabled dock that could output up to 4k but would settle at 1440p for most games.
However, that functionality was said to have been 'delayed' for launch because of software issues and would be enabled later with a patch. The OLED shipped but not the new dock. It was probably scuttled or indeed delayed.
I'm going with scuttled as DLSS still hasn't been adopted industry wide to a level that Nintendo would be comfortable using it. And how knows, maybe they simply couldn't fix the issues or it was too expensive considering the chip shortages.
I honestly think some people got their wires crossed with the Steam Deck. AMD was working on some kind of custom chip that was for a gaming console but no one knew which one.
It wasn't powerful enough to be 'next gen' but more capable than Switch. Next there was the software side of things and Nintendo picked up some games that couldn't run on Switch, turned out they fixed that with a Cloud solution.
I never believed that a Switch Pro would do more than upscale considering the increase in size of carts native 4k gaming and assets would bring and the fact that Xbox Series S taps out at 1080p for most games.
Nintendo probably looked at the numbers and decided it was not worth it to jump the gun in 2021 or 2022. All they would get is the games they have now but only slightly higher res or in 60fps instead of 30fps at quite a higher cost.
By 2024 they should be able to easily hit 4k upscaled from 1080p with DLSS and that opens up the Xbox One / PS4 library for ports.
Stealth drop Mario Odyssey 2 for the 2022 holiday and BOTW2 for Spring 2023.
Yep, that's the plan. It already leaked alongside Sonic Frontiers so it can't be that far out.
That big Nvidia leak is also turning out to be mostly on the money with things announced no one thought were real like Chrono Cross.
