The Atlantic bit seems to have a good statement.
No containment, it is going to be an additional strain of cold/flu.

The high virulence coupled with mortality being much lower than other members of the coranavirus family is... reassuring to say the least. That and the high asymptotic values seemingly being the case also could be considered a blessing since it technically means the infected stat is understated but severity/mortality overstated.

i'm not going to bother re-reading the article but if i remember correctly, the author seemingly went to great lengths in avoiding comparing corona's symptoms, rate of infection and mortality rates to seasonal influenza and instead focused on the one area they are similar in that they both contain RNA strands, and depending on how they mutate, we will either have seasonal vaccinations or one end all be all vaccine. the point being is that, this is one more fucking thing to worry about which you can't possibly spin as being a good thing or something to not go crazy about.

there still isn't enough meta-analysis on the virus itself but the one i linked earlier doesn't paint a good picture.

Hit up Costco today and barely came home with anything I planned to get. They were out of water and most dry/can goods. This was shortly after SF declared an Emergency, but didn't take the effort to explain what that entails to the masses. I'm gonna hit up a few stores tomorrow to build out a solid month of supplies, since I didn't have anything before. I'm not freaking out yet, but as someone who has pre-existing conditions I'm taking precautions while I can.

I can't believe the state of things right now compared to just a few weeks ago. It's almost as if China and WHO massively fucked up and we are all gonna pay for their mistakes. Doesn't help that we got whack jobs in SK apparently (don't know if I buy it since it's being so heavily pushed by Chinese media.) I do kinda wonder where the cross over with Iran is though, was it through Canada allowing Chinese travel?

Anyways I wait to see if this mutates and is a smart virus or a lazy one that we can work with. If it doesn't mutate we could potentially wipe it out, if not thanks China!

I was set to travel to China in April too before this all started, Air Canada won't even cancel/refund my flight yet.
