are you playing on a 16:10 monitor?

There are a few games that letterbox to maintain the 16:9 aspect ratio.  I use a 16:10 because it's a nice balance between 16:9 and 4:3 for when I play old games.

Bullletstorm and Mirror's Edge do it too.  But Bulletstorm (or just the demo) has major frame rate problems if you don't play at a 16:9 resolution.  Not really an issue since monitors or graphics cards will scale and letterbox for you.

btw, today is most likely the last day for new sales.  The final day is usually a 'best of' day where select daily deals return.

Yeah, I'm playing on 16:10 but the game lets you select the aspect ratio and it'll letterbox it regardless of what monitor you're using.

Nevermind.

The game is letterboxed on both of my desktop monitors and the TV in the office but I just tried it on my laptop and it's gone.  Huh.

Jamestown is awesome, I'm glad people here were talking it up.

I really enjoyed Conviction of PC for what I payed for it.

I'm thinking of picking up Dead Space 2 today, though it's not that cheap I might actually play it in the near future!

duckroll gifted me Terreria  :-[

so can someone tell me what this game is about?  I hear Minecraft and then I run for the hills because I don't need a never-ending timesink addiction which is what I understand Minecraft to be.  I also hear multiplayer which is another turnoff word in my gaming world.  But then I hear metroidvania and I like those.

Sup Com 2 is a fairly standard RTS.  You get to amass some pretty big armies with it!  I have fun with the skirmish mode in the game.  Didn't really play the campaign too much.

For under 4 bucks pick it up if you are interested in RTS games.

Terraria is kind of neat, because your exploration of deep mines often yields heaps of loot. Other than that, it's pretty much 2D Minecraft.

Blood Money is by-far the best game in the series.

Hitman 2 is great too, as is Hitman 1 (oddly, Hitman Contracts, the weakest one, isn't on steam), but Blood Money has the best mission, variety, mechanics, and everything.

If Sanctum goes on sale again I highly recommend to pick the game up.  Played it a couple hours today with a friend and it is a very interesting take on the tower defense genre.  Being able to set up defenses and then join the action in real time is awesome.

So is Garshap worth playing if you like action games?

I watched this giant bomb quick look:

http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-garshasp-the-monster-slayer/17-4140/

and I thought it looked pretty terrible.  It could be terribly awesome, and it is only $2.50 right now.  I have so many games to play not sure I want to waste any time on a potential bad one.

Got The Last Remnant downloaded and also set up V-Sync, AA, and triple buffering in the NVidia control panel, which makes the game look great. The tearing really is pretty terrible in TLR using the vanilla graphical settings and there's no option to switch on V-Sync, which is stupid. Fortunately, getting it set up was pretty easy and the results are basically the same.

I was thinking about rebuying Chrome (and SpecOps? haven't played that) and read to see if there are any problems for modern PCs.  Point is, I noticed Techland, the polish developer who made Chrome, made those Call of Juarez games and is making Dead Island.  I don't know why I find that hilarious.

If I ever had power over another human, I'd command them to play c-grade early 2000 fps games.  All of them.  I want to yell "you're only on IGI 2! wait until you reach Pariah!"

Speaking of Call of Juarez, they never put the first game on sale.  Forever it will sit, not being purchased by anyone, at $19.99.  Also, I want to buy Gun, but not at $13.39.  It was a PS2/Xbox portover.  I mean, come on.

Well, I'm pretty much done with Terraria until this fix this piece of junk. It has no autosave function, which wouldn't be too bad it it keeps crashing after about 15 minutes of play, causing me to lose all the progress I made. The only way to not lose everything is to constantly "save and quit" before it crashes.  >:(

Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention that it does save your inventory. So all the materials I used to build before the game crashed are now gone forever.

I sort of want Shogun 2, but I probably won't play it in the next year and next year it'll be $20 w/expansion at steam sale.

Might get DoWII Retribution since I have all the other DoW games, but I've never really had time to play any of them more than a few hours :X

People keep saying Sanctum is good.  It has nice art and is cheap, but it's TOWER DEFENSE and I hate tower defense.  Worth it?

Probably will get Whispered World and Bloodlines since they've been on my wishlist for a few years.

Ok, end tally for this light sale:

Tomb Raider Underworld $7.50
Sanctum                          $3.75
Eversion                          $2.49
The Whispered World    $10.20
Drakensang: RoT             $9.99
Vampire TM Bloodlines   $13.00
Terreria                           (GIFT)

Total                                ~$45

Knocked 3 games off my wishlist (TRU, WW, Bloodlines)

Not bad.  Sales were just ok and I think you get to a point after enough steam sales that you have almost everything you want from the store and new stuff is still too $$$.

I think I'm going to play Bloodlines as my next rpg after I finish The Witcher.  Never got a chance to play Bloodlines and I hear it's very similar to Alpha Protocol, which was one of my favorite rpgs this gen.

In the first half, yes. But in the second half, there are tons of monsters that will see through your stealth regardless.

Guns are terrible in bloodlines.  You know all those rpgs with bad stat based shooting like Deus Ex? Now imagine a world where that's considered good.   Vampire bloodlines would still have bad shooting in that world.

You need a gun maybe once and it's literally in the final few minutes.  I got through with stealth (weak) and melee (also weak); at least they're not broken.

Err, yeah I wasn't talking about guns+stealth literally, I meant an equivalent, aka a set of weapons/skills that are totally overpowered and broken and make the game fun to blow through in a god-like way.

I'd grab Dawn of War 2 GOLD for only a couple bucks more. Both Retribution and Chaos Rising are standalone expansions so I'm not sure if there's any real carry over in terms of squads you've built up. I'd guess there wasn't but I just started DOW2 so I dunno.

It's also worth mentioning that unlike the other two games, Retribution doesn't use GFWL. Everything is handled by Steam so if you hate GFWL you may want to skip the first two. Personally, Ive never had any issue with GFWL beyond thinking it's a pretty pathetic service.

Thanks.  I'll grab Dawn of War II Gold then.

And with that, I think I'm done here.

Amnesia Dark Descent
Audiosurf
Beat Hazzard
Dragon Age Origin Ultimate
Just Cause 2
Prince of Persia 2008
Sam & Max Complete
Supreme Commander 2
Dawn of War II Gold
Terraria
Splinter Cell Conviction
Tropico 3

I'm not sure when I'll get around to play Tropico 3 and Terraria seems like a waste of time even for the $2.50 I spent on it.  Other than that, I'm fine.
