Civ V has some strange issues from time to time. Textures like to disappear, randomly takes a long time to process a turn while others fly by, units won't let anyone know they need orders, etc.
I'm trying to remember if Civ IV was like this for the first year, I think it was. I know Civ III was. To be fair, it wasn't until BTS that Civ IV could even be thought of as having overtaken Civ II for me. (Could still debate.)
And what is the deal with this AI. We're all buddy buddy and then BAM WE'RE GOING TO WAR, CHECK OUT ALL THESE UNITS I JUST MOVED TO YOUR BORDER. I heard about the AI but I didn't think it was like this. (I assumed more like MGE where they're just assholes but you can buy them off.) Though I do like the ability to bombard with the cities. These groups of Greek archers were attacking me but I had had beelined for gunpowder after my other BFF the Aztecs went to war a century earlier. So Greece declares, I switch everything to produce gunpowder units, as they get close to the farthest city I hit them every turn I can and have my few units about harass. They get next to the city and bam Musketmen finished, broke two of the invaders units, and I had some Knights swarm the others. They fled back across the border and Alexander wanted peace for just 10 Gold.
Game seems to give a lot more gold than Civ IV. Although I am just playing on a lower difficulty to figure out the changes first.
I got a deal on some extra RAM the other day that's on the way, maybe that can clean up some of the turn stuff. I know Civ IV really enjoyed getting more RAM, even more than when I went from a P4 to Core2Duo.
Also. There's something unsettling about achievements and Civ.
