Setting the bar even lower than usual!  I'm sure Namco's reasoning is "old ass game, not worth any effort at all, let's see how many suckers we can sell it to at $20 out of nostalgia"

I'd get it on Steam sale if I didn't have like 100+ titles on Steam already that I need to get around to playing. :lol Maybe if they fix it, otherwise I'm not fussed. It's whatever. Someone will either fix it for them (when they really shouldn't) or Namco will fix it or people simply won't care and toss Namco money.

As the PC Japanese support turns and all that.

It's never been "confirmed." Square said they would "look into" it but never outright said it was going to PC. But the smoke was there (FF13 ports, previous FF ports. Hell even FF9 getting a PC port now despite never having one in the past) for the fire to be found. Them hiding it in the web page code for their webpage just means it's a matter of when not if they're going to confirm it now.

It'll be there eventually. I'll buy spin-offs like World of FF being platform exclusive in perpetuity, but not something like XV which I'm sure they want to recoup costs for any way possible.

American Truck Simulator's out!

Picked it up since they're only asking $20 and I wanna support the devs so they keep expanding to more states.  Game has all of California and Nevada currently with Arizona expansion coming free.

I always wondered how accurate to life the Euro Truck Simulator games were, so now I'll try to recreate my drive I did over New Years from LA to SF and see how closely the virtual version resembles it!

Well for one: The distances will be WAYYY shorter than the real thing, obviously. For the other, most of the routes probably won't have 1:1 land-marks.

Surprise Steam Sale because videogames aren't considered counter-revolutionary to the people's party any more

Also I love ETS2 but waiting a little to jump in on ATS because mods have spoiled me on ETS2 and I want to see how it shapes up with the mod scene.

Is it better to buy classic games on GOG instead of Steam?

Seems like some Steam versions don't run well on newer PCs.

Also, any recs for older (say mid 90s to mid 2000s) PC games?

Not interested in RPGs or RTS games because I have a goldfish attention span.

The GOG versions sometimes come with mods and fan patches already integrated. Other than that I don't really know. I would check either platform's forums. Better yet, go straight to pcgamingwiki.com, which will inform you of differences, what issues the games have, how to resolve them, troubleshooting tips and such. It's a very good resource.

As far as recommendations go, /v/ (used to?) maintain a wiki. Here's the PC section: http://vsrecommendedgames.wikia.com/wiki/PC
The lists are not exhaustive, but there's usually a good spread of genres with a vaguely illustrative blurb and a link to a store. Not always up to date though. For impressions, it's safer to go to Youtube and watch someone play. For issues, cross-reference with pcgamingwiki.com.

Steam is generally a straight up dump of the "last" official release of the game. GoG generally tries to fix it up for past-Windows Millennium Edition era OS's and throws in stuff like expansions for free. That said, Ghost Recon classic doesn't have the expansions on GoG while on Steam you get them there and can only use them for the Steam version. So it can be a bit of a toss-up depending on which version you buy. :lol

Though AFAIK most ports now a days that are released generally will have the "GoG fixes" in the Steam release. I think System Shock and Total Annihilation do that. YMMV though.

Finally got around to installing American Truck Simulator and drove from LA to San Diego since being an hour south of LA I'm incredibly familiar with LA->SD strip of freeways.

Really disappointed!!!  Like...what's in the game is absolutely nothing like the real world  :lol  It's not even a sense of scale, or the fact that everything between LA and San Deigo (aka where I live) is completely missing and just a strip of freeway with some hotels for 10 mins between the two.  But freeways weren't even anything like they are.  There's all these plants and stuff and it looks like somewhere in Kansas or something.  And then Los Angeles city and San Diego city are like...4 streets.

Uh, yeah.  I like this series, but I actually thought they were somewhat authentic like Flight Simulator at mapping out real world geography to drive along.  I thought since the graphics were fairly primitive they could put large landmasses and roads based on google maps and real world roads.  But if European Truck Simulator is anything like American Truck Simulator, it's totally bogus.  It's like a fantasy game world that has a few things styled off the real world.  I mean GTAV is 100x more accurate LA area than this.

I didn't expect exact 1:1 of where I lived in California, but I didn't expect something that's nothing like it either.  :|

Formerly "Umbra," a new CryEngine arpg. Steam early acess March 24th.

Really liking the resurgence we're seeing in the arpg genre. Grim Dawn seems to be doing well, Path of Exile is doing great, and a few others are in the pipeline like Lost Ark.

My dream arpg would be something as large/expansive as Skyrim. So many arpgs kinda get stuck recycling 3-4 area types (desert act, jungle act, haunted forest act, etc) that I'd love to see something that just gives you a big ass diverse world. Mix in tight controls/responsiveness and endless customization...

I'm pretty excited nonetheless. POE's biggest weakness is its engine. There's definitely an opening for an arpg to take its spot with deep customization and a modern engine...we'll see how this does. I'll definitely going to check it out on the 24th.
