Bacchanals (seems to be the proper English spelling) are literally ( 
) 22 centuries old and I'd imagine there's older examples. It's basically always assumed that the rich and powerful are a bunch of depraved assholes having orgies, with or without minors. It periodically turns out to be true.
Not to downplay the Epstein affair, there's plenty of very important persons sweating bullets if just for the association.
Right. I mean the best example of that was the UK parliament sex ring thing. That definitely had the air of "the Illuminati's cloaking shield failed here." So I can definitely get feeling affirmed by something like that.
Epstein's been a known quantity for a while though, I think even Trump said in 2002 "everyone knows he's into young girls" or something like that. 
It's pretty common. France & Belgium had several such rumors or actual affairs. For France it goes at least as far back as some sort of press existed. Italy has Berlusconi. Further back the enduring popular misconception of "prima nocta", the Bathory & Gilles de Rais affairs etc... It's fairly rare for the "rings" exposed to be as large as the wildest rumors speculate, though.
I don't know if it's "natural" or "universal" but it's certainly pretty commonplace that obscene wealth is seen as morally dubious and that power will inevitably be abused.
The global Catholic church scandal added on top of some other data (a lot of serial killers seem to be able to combo kills just because victims are vulnerable and no one is too worried if they go unaccounted for : prostitutes, minorities, migrants, etc...) seem to be sad evidence that it's absolutely not that wild a speculation that you can get away with some horrible shit for long times.
