It's really not helping things, is it... Juncker will join him, if he's ever ousted.

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/ukip-leadership-row-highprofile-figures-barred-from-succeeding-nigel-farage-after-ridiculous-a3293386.html

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-36756379

Told you UKIP would implode. Not even a month out of Europe and party members are leaving. But then it's likely also related to a former party member, who was a former MEP they tried to string up for expenses fraud when she challenged Farage's authority, was cleared because they have evidence she was being set up by UKIP leaders who are also being investigated regarding their expenses (Which is still ongoing)

http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/jul/11/former-ukip-mep-nikki-sinclaire-cleared-expenses-fraud

Suddenly a shitload of rumors about how UKIP was run and crooked as fuck get proven true in a matter of weeks while the leaders who profited the most retire and abandon the party. :heh

It really plays to ageist bigotry for older Britons to campaign / vote to leave the EU and then go :badass and walk away from leading the country through the process.

Seems the brexiteers now laud them leaving as necessary for the nation to start fresh and move away from the controversial imagery formed by Farage and Johnson. It does look like smart political engineering, have the (unofficial) faces of the leave campaign make an emotional appeal to the base desires of racist english nationalists, then controversially win on that note, and have them resign paving the way for the more moderate, rational conservative leadership - Michael Gove Theresa May, man I really need to keep up with this stuff...

:whew

Win on xenophobia and bad policy promises, then provide scapegoats for not delivering on those dumb promises :gbcry

As a permanent resident, I'm sick of Abe's rule here. He should have been disqualified for being back in charge after he quit from depression the first time. His economic ("ABENOMICS") policies are utterly, provably shit. He's restricted freedom of the press both in law, and in policies which abuse the social contracts this country holds sacrosanct. Because his buddies got hurt feels.

It makes me sick.

A truck drove directly (and shot, unclear ?) into the crowd gathered for the firework display at the Promenade des Anglais at Nice in the south of France. Perhaps 30 dead, if not more, maybe thrice injured. Driver was confirmed shot dead by the prefect, citizens told to stay at home, and a massive security perimeter has been established.

The new normal  :-\

EDIT : 73 dead as of now. Identity and motive of the driver still unknown or undisclosed.

Per Agence France Presse:

- Death toll is 77 and seems to be rising
- The truck was loaded with heavy weapons
- There were identity papers of a French-Tunisian man (not sure if suspect)

Well it's morning down here and the conga line of stupidity has begun, after a rather restrained night when even some of the horrible local Nice politicians were very subdued by the reality of it all.

How to prevent an act like that ?
Well, army patrolling the country so just tweak their rules of engagement and "put at the end of the Promenade des Anglais a soldier with a rocket launcher and he will stop the truck", according to Henri Guaino. This man is elected at the National Assembly and most notably was one of the major unofficial advisors to President Sarkozy. This is the level here people.

A suspect has been identified: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/nice-france-truck-attack-driver-mohamed-lahouaiej-bouhlel/?linkId=26589604

Quote
For many, there was nowhere safe to go. The vehicle zig-zagged for just over one mile until police shot and killed the driver.

Authorities found a handgun, assault rifle and fake hand grenades in the truck. An investigation is ongoing to determine whether this was a lone wolf attack.

The only thing is including people in society so that they don't feel like tearing it down.

As expected everyone jumped early at the whole terrorism angle, but so far nothing was made public about his motivations. He was known to the police, only for petty violence, but not to intelligence. Mentally ill people trying to go on a vehicular killing spree is not new, even if it never reached such heights. Is it terrorism without at least being emboldened by some political rhetoric or making a statement, let alone actual contacts with an organization providing logistics or some ideological cover ?

Army always had a reputation as a self appointed guardian of the Ataturk's principles, more secular (very much so, in fact, Turkish legislation was on par with French in some respects for the veil in public places and official id) but certainly happy to break a few democratic eggs in the process. Erdogan doesn't have a clean record for that (press, protests, social media) and is obviously angling for a more religious state with troubling references to the Ottoman empire but he has been consistently elected.

The government is blaming the Gulen movement, which is a religious group that's been cracked down on by Erdogan. I don't know if those claims are credible or just the government blaming a feared enemy.
