Still being President in a war zone fighting for your country while hiding from Chechen assassins and yet still finding time to stay up to speed with obscure internet memes to troll your enemy.

That's king shit.

Protest in Russia are growing in size

https://twitter.com/bbbayh/status/1500449635579662336

Less fighting in Ukraine today but the Russians were stupid enough to target civilians fleeing the Kyiv area while the NYT was there to report on the evacuations.

Of course the Russians are already blaming it on ghost Nazi's.

At this point no matter what we do makes a difference the Russians will come up with any old bullshit.

Fits with the rumors that Putin fears Shoygu (Minister of Defense) is planning a coup next week.
Putin is seemingly looking for a way to 'frame' him and other scapegoats for treason and such.

It raises an interesting point though:

If Russia were to immediately, unconditionally and unilaterally withdraw - would things be more or less back to normal in a month?

In that scenario, I just couldn't see the Germans continuing to reject Russian gas, or international leaders continuing to push for an ICC appearance. I just don't think there are any world leaders with the stomach for a protracted fight with Putes.

It would depend on how punitive they plan to be with Putin. While it would cost the world some to continue keeping the Russian sanctions up, it is absolutely fucking up Russia's shit more than The Rest of the World. Just because Putin says "just kidding" and brings his troops home, it doesn't automatically lift the sanctions. Then there is the matter of reparations.

The Russian leadership is far beyond that and doesn't care.

The only thing they have done is fabricate new evidence, upped the stakes by capturing nuclear plants and destroying appartment blocks, shelling evac zones and damaging infrastructure. They've also started to target local mayors in Ukraine and other potential threats but mostly the population.

At home they've imposed a North Korean like crackdown on dissent and tuned up the censorship and propaganda to 11. They've also started to teach the children the 'truth' about the war and have started to register teens in colleges and universities for future military service and forced labor. They've adopted a law that anti-war protestors are to be send to the front.

As for foreign policy the have threatened Sweden and Finland. Made promises they didn't keep and told Erdogan that unless all demands are met they won't stop the war. It's about more than Russia too at this point. Ukraine is important for the food supply, wheat prices are already exploding. Not to mention the refugee flows.

It's an evil empire at this point there is no rationality left. They want to take over Ukraine and the other lands that once belonged to imperial Russia by force. Unless something happens in Russia itself it will be a long and bloody war.

There's a catch, they have to appoint Boiko as prime minister and Zelensky can stay as pro-forma president stripped of all authority.

Macron is angry because he was fooled again as well.
The promised "humanitarian" corridors led straight to Russia and Belarus. Other routes were mined.

Even though there are some Putin fans, the majority of Europeans support whooping Russia's ass in Ukraine even if it means higher energy prices, for now.
I expect it will be messy in the Middle East, Africa, South America and probably Asia because of food prices. Europe can produce its own food but it won't be able to export as much.
China alone imports 10% of its food from Ukraine so you have to wonder what Putin promised them in exchange for support (probably a nice lease on some farmland).

Then you have stuff that Russia provides (or used to provide) in abundance like nickel. The price has shot up 80%.

The heaviest blows will probably fall in countries that are already on the edge like Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan etc. and unless China is willing to prop up Russia and Belarus I expect their economies to completely crater.
Launching an alternative payment system is easy compared to preventing mass unemployment in Russia.

I also think this is why the war will expand to other countries as the cost/benefit ratio of this war for Russia is very poor.
The more they conquer the more it was worth it.

The UN can kiss goodbye to their climate and other sustainability goals though. Building military equipment means heavy industries.
Being less reliant on Russia means more coal on the short term. In Russia itself soon many people will be pushed back into poverty and serfdom.

Noticed this too, almost no movement along the front.
They are sitting ducks as Ukraine keeps blowing up more and more trucks and fuel trucks.
However they are slowly gathering some sort of force for an attack in Kyiv.

Next comes the cold, temperatures will hit -10 to -20 celcius later this week.
The Russian captured POW's didn't look very well equipped for the winter cold either.

As always, the Dutch:
In 1986, Roy Duncan, historian and Chairman of the Isles of Scilly Council, decided to investigate and wrote to the Dutch Embassy in London. Embassy staff found that no peace treaty had ever been signed, and Duncan invited the Dutch ambassador Jonkheer Rein Huydecoper to visit the islands and officially end the "conflict". Peace was declared on 17 April 1986, exactly 335 years after the supposed declaration of war. The Dutch ambassador joked that it must have been horrifying to the Scillonians "to know we could have attacked at any moment."
