Anyone have riots on their bingo card? Im wondering if were getting any spicy ones soon.
Arab Spring but maybe Euro Spring?
Even though there are some Putin fans, the majority of Europeans support whooping Russia's ass in Ukraine even if it means higher energy prices, for now.
I expect it will be messy in the Middle East, Africa, South America and probably Asia because of food prices. Europe can produce its own food but it won't be able to export as much.
China alone imports 10% of its food from Ukraine so you have to wonder what Putin promised them in exchange for support (probably a nice lease on some farmland).
Then you have stuff that Russia provides (or used to provide) in abundance like nickel. The price has shot up 80%.
The heaviest blows will probably fall in countries that are already on the edge like Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan etc. and unless China is willing to prop up Russia and Belarus I expect their economies to completely crater.
Launching an alternative payment system is easy compared to preventing mass unemployment in Russia.
I also think this is why the war will expand to other countries as the cost/benefit ratio of this war for Russia is very poor.
The more they conquer the more it was worth it.
The UN can kiss goodbye to their climate and other sustainability goals though. Building military equipment means heavy industries.
Being less reliant on Russia means more coal on the short term. In Russia itself soon many people will be pushed back into poverty and serfdom.
