Too bad one-third of the series is absolutely garbage. :-\

it doesn't say "from the creator of evangelion" for nothing :smug

Anno didn't have anything to do with the one-third that was awful, though.

Eh. The thread title is how I feel about Space Dandy right now. The 2nd episode was the only good one so far.

Second episode was pretty tame until they got to the Ramen dimension, then it became special.

Fourth ep was fantastic all the way through tho.

Eh I'll just wait until Space Dandy is over. Did'nt really care for episode one and have missed every episode since.

All I need is Kill...................la kill for right now.

Though I wish I hadn't heard about these anime 3000 people and thier hate for Kill la kill and Gurren Laggan.

The first episode is easily the worst of the four that have aired so far.

Also, Anime 3000 is a terrible place and you should never go there.

Episode 1 is the worst of the bunch, but let's not kid ourselves and label episode 2 and 3 as anything more than 'pretty good'. 2 has a great second half, but it's still inconsistent. 3 is just mediocre and lowest common denominator. 4 is so far the only episode worth its shit. The show is inconsistent as fuck. I'd say it's definitely best to wait for it to be finished, because watching it week to week is torture since you don't know if it'll be good.

Nobunagun is a rip-off of Pacific Rim about people infused with the spirits of their famous ancestors who fight aliens while being semi-psychotic.

Nobunagun can't be a rip off of Pacific Rim because it's based off a manga series that started in 2011. :expert

:hitler

And I mention that because there's a part in the second episode where one of the characters says that what happened in episode 1 sounds like the plot from a recent Hollywood movie [doesn't mention Pacific Rim, but it's obvious that's the movie they're talking about].

Zero is awesome. Stay/Night is the sequel and the story is awful.

The studio behind Zero is doing it this time so let's hope they can make it watchable.

Fate stay/night is the original story, zero is the prequel... it was originaly a visual novel (that's it, one of those game that's all text and occasional choice that lead to horrible death's) i've read it because it has tons of fans (it even spawned a psp rpg that even got translated) but the whole plot basicaly boils down to super human fighting each other so the whole thing feels like someone describing a fight manga and it's so boring...

...that's without mentioning that there is actual porn on it for no reason other than some sort of obscure law where these sort of games require it,there is one bit where the heroes power down and the only way to power up back again is sexual intercourse obviously and the whole thing is super awkward and really serve no purpouse other than making me feel bad when i talk about it

if you want to knock yourself out!

nah,it's true that it has sex scenes but there aren't a lot of them in the first place (some version of the game don't even have them in the first place) but i think the real reason it's not that far off, there are a lot of female character and they all fill some romance trope one way or the other, just look at this tvtrope page

the setup is also really cool, the idea of historical figure in disguise duking it out is awesome, unfortunately it happens in the most boring way possible and nothing like... say... christopher columbus duking it out with lu bu ever happens

But isn't it true that the otaku's into the pandering/moe/loli/fanservice shit is what's been killing the anime industry in Japan for over a decade?

Anime market is shrinking -> Let's appeal to the highest spenders left (aka otaku into fanservice) -> More normal people stop watching anime because it the pandering/moe/loli/fanservice is crap they don't want in their shows -> market shrinks -> repeat  step one (welcome to the downward spiral of the last 10 years of anime)

I didn't read the article, but if Miyazaki is basically saying the hardcore creepy otaku fanbase who make 90% of anime worse because it has to appeal to them...sounds like he's right!

Yeah, it's hardly a secret that a some of the older, veteran anime guys are really upset with the modern anime industry. Notably, Miyazaki and Oshii.

Thankfully, at least, we seem to have passed the nadir already, unless current positive trends collapse for some reason.

read all of dragon half, it's about this half-dragon/half-human/half-naked chick called mink who goes on a quest to get this potion that will turn her into a whole human so that she can marry this dragon hating guy who's also a popstar... it's really reminiscent of slayers in that it present itself as a sword & sorcery manga, but everyone act so goofy and dumb (particular mention goes to this minor villain who gets beated up so many times he ends up being reduced to just his head, and he STILL ends up attacking the heroes over and over) that it's more of a comedy manga

unlike slayers it's quite fan-servicey, i don't think there is a single female character that isn't dressed in something that is not a chainmail bikini, mink friend often cop a feel for no reason and it's not uncommon for mink to end in some compromising pose, but it's ok! this is an oldass manga from the 90 when fanservice was still acceptable so you guys can't tell me anything :win

I don't know ppl keep bringing up the price of anime BDs/dvds. As if the prices are some recent phenomenon, prices(and correct me if I'm wrong) were always high for anime. Shit everything is expensive in Japan. And it not like it effects any of us.

It does have some effect. For example, we still don't have Darker Than Black Season 1 blu ray release in NA due to the insane price in Japan.

There was a write-up on ANN about this not too long ago, and I think it was basically that in the early days of home video and Laserdisk, prices were really high because they were mainly meant for rental places to buy. But they found that hardcore otaku were willing to pay those high prices anyway. Long story short, they never did come down on the prices the way the US did in order to gain mass-market appeal.
dog

I plan on buying a couple Blu-rays in Japan in April, but the prices are so insane that it will just be a one or two (Macross Plus, final volume of Gundam AGE shut up, Gunpla Builders Beginning G) and then I'll blow the rest on games. The Macross F movies are tempting with English subtitles, but not $300 tempting.

One punch man

oh boy everything about this is amazing! remember when you heard about hancock, tought it was a cool premise and then it became about how will smith couldn't be close to this white chick? not here! this is a proper unheroic hero story and it's sooooooo good, the plot basicaly goes that there is this dumb looking guy called saitama who for some reason (he said it's because he trained hard every day) has become so strong he can literaly defeat everything in a single punch (therefore giving the title to the manga) the city where he lives is perpetualy assaulted by giant monsters and aliens who he keeps defeating without an once of effort, but this has made him grown bored of his life as nothing ever challenge or inspire him anymore

while fighting a giant mosquito monster he ends up meeting this cyborg dude who decide to become his disciple (after boring him for 2 whole page with his origin story), soon after he realize's that all of his heroic effort have always go unnoticed so him and the cyborg dude decide to join the superhero association, but he's forced to start as a rookie hero so nobody still take him seriously anyway

now of course a manga where the hero just come, punch the villain and flies away would be boring but somehow this pulls it off, saitama is hilarious in the way he gives absolutely no fuck (a gag often used his him defeating a villain before the villain can end his introduction speech :lol) and there are a lot of others characters that often drags the fight before saitama can finish it,all of them are also incredibly stupid like watch dog man (who's just a guy dressed in a dog suit) and metal bat (who's just a guy in a pompadour and a baseball bat) or just plain cool (like the cyborg dude)

the art is incredible and done by the guy who drew eyeshield 21 (a popular football manga) in fact you probably have seen some of these gif

but the real hilarious part is that the eyeshield 21 artist isn't the actual author,no... the actual author is this average dude who goes by the alias of ONE which drew it as a webcomic but his art is super shitty, seeing the two version side by side is often more hilarious than the actual gag in the manga's, here are some of the page from the first chapter of both for example :lol

Original Webcomic

Actual Manga

Original Webcomic

Actual Manga

sadly there aren't a lot of chapter's so far,the webcomic version goes further but well beside the awfull art not even that version is completed so you get an unfinished plot no matter what

Watching Cowboy Bebop and only slightly enjoying it made me realize I don't actually like anime. I like cartoons. Anime are a certain type of cartoons I don't really enjoy, basically. Like Cowboy Bebop. It's pretty much like a real show, but drawn instead of having real actors. I never really enjoyed it. :yeshrug It's the reason why I haven't seen Monster despite hearing good things. Realistic anime shows bore me, unless there's a lot of comedy.

You're watching the wrong anime, then.

I will never get over seeing DVD prices in the 7000-10,000 yen price range during my time there- and that didn't just go for anime.  Just fucking ridiculous.
