Is it bad if I actually enjoyed Neo-Yokio?

I enjoyed it the same way I enjoyed The Room.

Neo Yokio is like a fine wine of shitposting simmered in just enough bad animation and voice acting to please only the most dignified palettes.

Almost everything. The awful lip synching that makes it seem like an early 90s dub. Some characters sound great. Some sound... like early 90s dub actors. Combined with some stupid plot and silly jokes (the midnight blue tux, the Helenists, Charles) it's just something I haven't really seen before. Very refreshing.

How's Inuyashiki so far?

Saw a gif of that show that made it look like it's trying way too hard. Might be a fun watch if it totally shits the bed like that Mayoiga show last year.

Top runner from AOTY. It also has the best OP of the season but I'm having trouble finding it on youtube, so i can't link it.

It is kinda "edgy" though.

Of course Inuyashiki is edgy, it's from the man who brought us Gantz lol. The best part was he finished the manga at 10 volumes instead of dragging it on for another 30+. I'm curious how many seasons the anime will be broken into.

Anybody watching Houseki No Kuni? I love the manga. Hope the anime doesn't flop. I feel like Prison School was let down by it's anime, but these ultra stylish manga tend to translate really badly into animation anyway.

DBSuper is something tween/teen me would have been all over. I just don't particularly care for Shounen anymore. I'm barely making it through My Hero Academia. Couldn't make it through Hunter x Hunter.

Why do people call Hunter x Hunter a deconstruction of the genre?

I'm at the Chimera Ant stuff now and it's just a shounen show so far. People calling it the best shounen are also crazy, since Hajime no Ippo is obviously the best one.

I wouldnt call Hunter x Hunter a deconstruction, it's pretty much the ideal shounen though, it's power creep issues arent that bad, the chars are interesting, the world is amazing, the stories are fun, the villains are complex and relatable.

I know it's published in shonen mag and it's genre is definitely shounen, but when you have two dudes jerking off another guy in the shower and all the other adult shit it pulls off it almost feels like it's cheating saying it's for younger teens. I would put HnI in my top 3 - 5 shounens the slow as molasses stuff pre - during and after Woli (fuck Woli) and this recent storyline is pissing me off so much that I knocked it down a few places though.

Hunter x Hunter isn't a "deconstruction" of shonen, but it's special because of the specific ways it plays with and sometimes breaks classic shonen tropes.

I find MHA much more enjoyable than Hunter x Hunter, but that's probably because I'm not 100 episodes behind on MHA.

Power creep is something I'm fine with. MHA has the problem of quirks somehow becoming better through training, even if it makes no sense for them to become better through training. HxH seems to just start everyone off as super powerful from the small amount of it I watched.

Also Gon is super ugly and that child head on an overly muscular adult body transformation is really offputting.

In Japan you'd be right. For Western audiences, "shounen" is typically understood to mean AoT/DBZ/Naruto/One Piece/Fairy Tail and others in that genre.

How good is Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans really?

It looks great and gets a lot of hype but what I've seen of Gundam so far(not much, just Seed and Unicorn) was way to overdramatic and ham-fisted for my taste. Is this any different? I just want a decent space opera animu to watch but the show apparently has a loli and that doesn't really encourage me either  :-\

I really liked the first season despite its pacing problems. The mecha fights are brutal and these kids will take advantage of their opponent grandstanding. Didn't finish the second season. I don't even remember most of it.

Second Season of IBO is even more brutal, but maybe a bit forceful about it. Also there were more than a few unresolved plot points.

So many character deaths. Ending was sad. I was sad. IBO was good. Sometimes it's okay to be sad.

Only .hack//SIGN is worth your time, the rest are trash.

Well, if you're *really* into G.U. then Roots has some (incredibly boring) backstory for that stretched over like 26 eps.

Edit- Though most consider SIGN boring too I suppose. :lol But that was sort of the point, a lot of it feels like philosophical debates. On the other hand Roots feels like it thinks it's action based. Unfortunately it barely has any action.

It's mostly in response to its immense popularity. SAO is a pretty mediocre harem power fantasy with lots of fanservice and lots of bland characters, but a lot of people loved it. I prefer Log Horizon, though, and not because it hewed closer to MMORPG mechanics.

I guess I was pretty divorced from the hype. It just looked like a cool show on Cartoon Network which then got bumped to midnight for its final episodes with no warning. :lol

SAO irks me on a few levels.

- Nothing about the world or its rules makes sense if you think about it for more than two seconds.
- Main character is a dumb Gary Stu author-insert character with nothing interesting about him. He gets a busty tsundere to fall in his lap and then has to rescue for contrived reasons.
- It's stupidly popular (far above .hack) for the above reason.
- The main villain is just... lmao.
- Annoying Navi-like loli character is introduced halfway calling the MC "daddy" approximately 100 times an episode.
- Overwrought, overly-dramatic, and pointless cousin incest subplot.
- There's a couple standalone episodes that don't make any sense or are soooooo overdramatic as to be laughable (the Christmas one.)
- In fact there's just a lot of bad writing overall. There's one ep where the MC takes a bunch of underleveled chars into a super high level zone then acts SUPER surprised when they're all killed around him. :lol
- As a .hack fan, I was excited to see a new-age high-budget MMO anime, making all of the above even worse.

Never watched s2, it may be an improvement, but IMO the whole franchise is a dumpster fire. I've never met someone who was a big fan of it who wasn't also an annoying creep.

The name of the author is Project Itoh and I actually read one of his novels, Harmony, two years ago. It was actually really good and surprisingly discerning in picturing a future dystopia masked as a medical utopian paradise. I knew there was a movie in the making but I forgot about it. Shame if it's crap because I was looking forward to watching it.
