You said anime is expected to be bad, which I guess is a fair opinion but there's good & bad just like any medium. I watch like 2 things anime a year and they are usually good because I only watch things that have been highly recommended. I don't expect that all anime is good from my limited experience.

I think you have to approach Devilman with an ironic mindset. It's not high art in the least but its goodness (violence, sex, ridiculous story) and badness (animation, VA, script, etc.) blend together to make it more than the sum of its parts.

I don't really expect all anime to be good and never claimed that. Any time I watch a highly talked about anime though, I think it sucks. I think I lasted ten minutes into Devilman Crybaby. Finishing LOGH rewatch.

Pretty much. Everything I've seen of Go Nagai is shock value trashy (Devilman, Cutie Honey, Mazinger), but it can be fun in how ridiculous it is.

I didn't love Crybaby, but it's a solid piece of work.

They're going to do one of those Fathom screening events in theaters across the US on February 11th and 12th.

I liked Godzilla, the music really sells the film. Looking forward to Movie 2/Part 2.

I think this season has too many shows to keep up with but a real standout so far is After the Rain which is on Amazon Prime(rip anime strike). Amazon has Kokkoku and Killing Bites as well. Also A-1 and Trigger saving anime once again with Darling in the Franxx.

Escaflowne is pretty good. It's a bit on the pretty boys side of anime, but it doesn't go too far in that direction and the story/mecha action/animation/soundtrack are darn good.

That was one of the first animes that ran over here, alongside Golden Boy. They were shown during night time, which added some special aura to it in my preteen perception. Godzilla was so-so. Like I guess it could've been worse, but the directing was so bland, the script was so bland, Godzilla looked so bland PS1 CG texturing, it was just kinda ugly and boring for 90 mins. The action in the last 30 mins was ok I guess. As a Godzilla film and as an anime it's pretty weak, hopefully the 2nd movie is better.

Also as someone who hates CG anime but hasn't really watched any new CG anime in the last 5-10 years since the early ugly CG anime, this really didn't do anything to increase my opinion of modern CG anime. The CC2 cutscenes in Asura's Wrath/Naruto/.Hack or Arc Sys stuff with GG Xrd/DBZF looks way better than this.

not a fan of cgi anime either but something about the setting makes it work for me here, blame and sidonia. Probably because they're all set in some far off future and everyones pretty much wearing the same thing (dirty space suits or something similar) that I don't mind the look so much.

With Godzilla i liked the story? The idea of going back to finish the fight. The "twist" at the end. Looking forward to the other parts
