Unfortunate but not very surprising. This is who Derrick Rose is at this point. He's just never going to be that guy who can play these number of minutes. His body won't allow it. His is only 26 but its hard to envision him as a player who can comfortable play 30 minutes a game unless you ration him a lot during the season.

His body plays fine. It's the knees that pose the problem. He kneeds a kneeodomy.

Detroit has been playing Cleveland pretty well this year, so I wouldn't be that confident in the Cavs tonight.

I think the Cavs will still win but I see it being a 103-96 affair.

I wasn't far off

Yeah good call man.

Atlanta is no threat to Cleveland, they don't have a bench.

you think this has a lot to do with the mileage Thibodeaux puts on his starters? Rose spent a good, what, 3-4 seasons playing 35-40 minutes a game not including the postseason.  Seeing him do the same thing with Butler is making me kinda sick

It probably doesn't help but looking at the minutes this year Butler seems to be the only one who seems to be playing too many minutes. He also has had nagging injuries all season.

I got your schtick by now, if I were a GS fan because I played in Oakland you'd say Cavs would win...../old

Cavs 105  GS 95

Perkins will bodyslam Bogut back to rehab within the first 2 quarters.

So Green will have to cover Lebron, which leaves who on Love? Because if you guys think Klay Thompson is locking down LBJ y'all crazy.

I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised tomorrow. We haven't won 17 out of 19 because we aren't playing well my dude.

GS is a great great team, but I'm telling you, when the Cav's are clicking with the present roster nobody is on their level....too much scoring....too much defense (look at our rating last 20 games)

It's hard to imagine the Cavs being on the level of the Warriors during a 7 game series currently but one individual game prediction during the regular reason is pretty much pointless as any team can win in that situation. It should still be a fun game, but if the Cavs win or the Warriors win, I don't think it necessarily means much in either case.

Good point but never underestimate that Cleveland has what, 5 or 6 guys with rings on their team? I don't think they are as likely to fold under pressure as golden state.

Scratch that, trust me both teams are taking this seriously. At this point in the season you can consider this a crucial game in terms of setting expectations for the rest of the year. If Cleveland beats GS media will hype Cleveland....if GS beats Cleveland they will be considered the favorites to win it all. So yeah, I think this is the game to watch this year if you're an NBA fan.

Or you could be on the reasonable logical side that incorporates all knowledge to make an informed decision versus the silly world Barkley has imagined in his head.

The idea that basketball management is all in on its only the numbers or some wise old wizard who can magically see everything a player is in all situations makes for lame black and white arguments.

I was being sarcastic.

There is clearly a use for statistics to spot tendencies and identify areas that need improvement. However, someone who played the game will be able to spot future growth which is not something stats are going to do for you.  And before you reply, did any math nerd in the world predict Hassan Olajaside would turn into a A+ center? How long can he maintain it? Simple fact is you can't.

I actually think both sides need to work together because Billy in Oakland ain't winning a world series with a calculator (looking at you, houston) and neither are the old school Met's scouting department.

The rise of 3 point shots as a reflection of metrics that indicate the value of the shot has probably been one of the most indicative tools.

http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/team/_/stat/offense-per-game/sort/avgThreePointFieldGoalsAttempted

Of course then you have people like Byron Scott who are nah, I'm a wizard but who can't understand that the game is changing right underneath them but want to use their playing career to defend their positions.

As opposed to all the hardcore non-metric teams that are going to do awesome in the playoffs?

I get that. However are you going to tell me which college player is going to hit the most clutch corner threes or are you going to have to take a scout's word for it?

PS the "3" is ruining the game in college and the NBA....needs to be extended about a foot.

Well to be fair if Billy's calculator started him off with double the money he might be able to do it :P

See the Houston Rockets as an example of money buying a nice calculator team that won't be worth shit in the playoffs.

As opposed to all the hardcore non-metric teams that are going to do awesome in the playoffs

Cavs aren't ran by metrics they are pretty much ran by Lebron and I have a gut feeling they'll do pretty well this year.

Look you want to get your anger up about stats, do it. Just be sure to understand there use only extends so far.
YMMV

The rise of 3 point shots as a reflection of metrics that indicate the value of the shot has probably been one of the most indicative tools.

Of course then you have people like Byron Scott who are nah, I'm a wizard but who can't understand that the game is changing right underneath them.

I get that. However are you going to tell me which college player is going to hit the most clutch corner threes or are you going to have to take a scout's word for it?

PS the "3" is ruining the game in college and the NBA....needs to be extended about a foot.

Read the bleacher report article. None of those people say that stuff. The people who say that stuff are Barkley and his types. Every reasonable metrics person says its a mix and tool. Barkley is the one with the rigid position. Not the other side.

I concur.

Stats can't tell me if the player is a dick, or if he fails under pressure if he's playing against a vocal player, or how much drive he has to be better. You're always gonna need a former player/coach/nba career guy to do that type of duty.
YMMV

Cleveland was one of the first teams to hire a full-time statistical analytics staff. Notably Dan Rosenbaum creator of the fancy regression run adjusted plus/minus.
