As for Dragon Ball for those who have never experienced it. Dragon Ball is a multi-generational epic that spans multiple universes. Starting from the beginning of the story you witness the main character, Goku, grow from fledgling child to an adult with kids, who kids eventually have kids. Characters show real growth over the years despite the stereotype of a fight series and while it has weaknesses, all of this is portrayed really well. Regarding fighting, it goes from small, personal kung fu movie style fights where people are grounded, to eventually to the point where the characters manage to learn how to manage their chi to fly, to intergalatic space battles to decide who the most powerful in the universe is, to battles between the gods in the heavens. It is an epic that has its own lore, multiple universes, all tied with neat fights and a personal multi-generational story. The package, when put together, is a classic despite its flaws. I highly suggest reading the manga of Dragon Ball (this includes Z) from beginning to end then maybe watch Kai, particularly in English, which is incredible. Don't watch the original, it's full of filler.
I'm biased because I love Dragon Ball, so...
